The kind hairdresser has such a calm and reassuring demeanor, she leaves nothing out, inspiring confidence in those of us who wish to home cut. I've watched several videos and enjoyed this one most of all.
This will be my guide to cutting my mother-in-law's hair tomorrow. I have watched it several times, and although her hair is thicker and curlier than the lady's in the video, I will do my best. My mother-in-law is homebound and has dementia, but is a cheerful lady despite the short-term memory losses. I am going to smile through the whole haircut, even though I am nervous. Just watched this video for the first time and I am so relieved!!! I do not know how to cut hair and have had many fails since the beginning of the pandemic. No one in my household can go to the salon anymore because we are all immunosuppressed. Your video was easy to follow and I have now completed the best haircut ever!!! Thanks!!!
During my training as a hairdresser, i only had 2 short hair models, in my first job now and struggling with this type of haircut. This has made it so simple and now i cant wait to use your techniques instead. It will help build my confidence to become a better hairdresser
Wonderful to find this and just in time to "fix" my 92-year-old mother's hair that I cut the other day. This will shape it nicely as Mom's hair is exactly like this lady's...with the curls flipping up at the back and in front of the ears. I did my best the other day, and she was pleased, but this great tutorial will make it even nicer. It really helps to give our loved ones in lockdown a fresh do!!
Thank you for posting this video! I'm taking care of my 91 year old Grandma and am unable to get her haircut due to Covid-19. I'm feeling more confident after watching this video.
Thank you for this! Im going to try to cut my grandmas hair since she dont go anywhere bc of covid. I already cut my grandpas... my huband and all my kids, but she is so picky. This helps me feel more confident with cutting her hair.
My sweet grandma was hinting she needed a haircut, and she is to ill to leave home. I have never cut an older ladies hairstyle befor and I find that this video has given me some much needed confidence. Much love from Ontario, Canada. ♡♡♡
Thank you so much for this tutorial! My elderly mother is now is a nursing home and she asked me to cut her hair...I found your video and followed along with you and it came out so nice, Mom loved it! She was getting compliments all day, it made her feel so good! You were so clear and easy to follow, I will do this for her whenever she needs it. I thank you with all my heart! 💖💖💖
Thank you for taking the time to show us how to cut older women's hair. I 'm a 69 yr. old man and I have cut my own hair most of my adult life. If I made a mistake I was okay with that, but my wife is 71 and I've never cut a women's hair before, so watching your video will be a big help for me. I liked the clarity of using your fingers as a cutting guide.
@@BeautyHealthTravel I cut my wife's hair yesterday. It turned out fairly well. She seems to be satisfied with it. It will be a lot easier for her to take care of now. Thanks for your help.
I've just used this method and got perfect results! In all my years of hairdressing I can't believe I haven't been shown this technique before; thankyou so much for sharing this, I will certainly be using it from now on!
Every time I'm asked to cut my elderly neighbor's hair I watch this video. It is so helpful as I am not trained to cut hair at all. Simply doing a favor to someone no longer able to go to the salon. You explain and demonstrate every step so easily! Thank you!
The best video for cutting hair,I want to try this on myself pretty soon, the last time i went to the hairdressers she cut myside too short and it stuck out all the time. Thanks so much for all your tips. Bless you!
Thanks for this video❤️. My husband managed to follow it and cut my hair. I was scared when he said “do I need to put my glasses on” but he did a great job. Jeez what we’ll do in lockdown! Amazing 😀
This is the best short haircut for a Senior with thin and fine hair I have ever seen. You did a great job. I really like this. I have thin and fine hair but my beautician just keeps teasing and teasing my hair and I really feel like I'm my hair gets even thinner with all the teasing. But I've been going to her for almost 50 years and I'm afraid to say anything to her. I would really love this haircut.
You did a great job of going back & checking the cut. I really appreciate your thoroughness & i wish all hairdressers would check out the cut afterwards, which they do not!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! Watched my mom for years as a kid as she was a beautician. With all the coronavirus hype, social distancing has closed the salons. I needed the refresher to keep my family looking neat and kept 😁
Thank you thank you thank you!! I am a Hospice CNA who takes care of homebound patients. One of my ladies no longer makes appointments outside of the house to get her hair cut. She would prefer that I do it. This video is absolutely wonderful!
I think this will help me cut my husband’s thin hair as well. I’ve cut it twice and it’s pretty uneven especially in back. The detail on guidelines and good camera work is great. Will watch again. Thank you so much!
I am watching this to cut my granny's hair. Her hair gets tangled too much because she is bedridden. I took out all the knotts in her hair and I am going to cut it shorter so it doesn't get tangled again.
Wow, this was posted a decade ago! I don't know if my 85 yr old mum is ready but I am definitely ready after watching this very educational video!! TQVM.
@@BeautyHealthTravel Yes, a huge THANK YOU!!!! I've been afraid to try and cut my own hair, but because I don't really have anyone to help me, I'm going to try, and your video has helped me figure out a strategy!!!! Thank you!!
Super nice. I have to try on one of my senior friends, who is in the care facility now. I used to cut children's hair in my home town when we were fooling around back in the day. I was 13 and my "clients" were 6-7.))) After watching your video it brought back very pleasant memories. Thank you for it.
Wow she made this cut look so easy to do. In school I try so hard to be perfect by sectioning and taking my time and I still have issues with hair cutting. Thanks for the video...it gave me a new perspective on what I can be doing.
I liked this video a lot. I'm in cosmetology school now && we have done a million 90 degree cuts to our mannequin heads, but they all have longer hair. My grandma has been wanting me to cut her hair for her & she has shorter hair like the lady in this video, so this helped me a lot. Thanks for sharing :)
a pixie is just like a 1 1/2 " version of this exact thing. personalization comes in at the end. with how you cut the bangs, and perimeter, etc. I do this a lot with a razor.
I, too, watched this to provide my mom's-in-love a haircut during Stay-at-Home Order. This helped immensely! Appreciate your willingness to assist us at this time. While I know I can cut hair fairly well, I do NOT want this to be my profession, so will be excited to get back to some normalcy!
Love the video,my mum is96 and ive used this to cut her hair.Hers is dead straight though ,used to always have a perm.So is a different look for sure. She also has a widows peak which is a challange. Thanks again.
This video was very helpful for me. I am a dog groomer by trade, but I need to cut my 92 year old mother-in-law's hair. She is to frail to go to a salon, so I told her I would give it a try. This video was just what I needed to get the proper instructions. THANK YOU!!
Had I received this training while in cosmetology school I may well have had the confidence to work in the field. But as this type of cut always left me lost and floundering to keep a guide I felt extremely stressed and overwhelmed and keeping a client in the chair too long. As I executed it according to the training ( what little we students were offered) I determined I'd never survive the real world so after 1100 hours ( and trouble at home with my now "ex" spouse) I gave it up. This is an excellent training and if I can find some people needing a free cut, I plan to practice this, as naturally I maintain my equipment for use on family and friends, given I have loved cutting hair since I was a young teen.
Thank you so much for your post. The finger measuring technique is so versatile: works for men and women haircuts. The best and most accurate way to cut.
Much appreciated; my mum is terminally ill, and is unable to get to the hairdresser or have a hairdresser come to her, so I’ve taken over... I have to say, probably not as good a job as you would probably do, but it isn’t looking too bad. Thanks for sharing the tricks of your trade.
I like how you cross checked and double checked while you were cutting. Also, you allowed length on a receding hairline. With curly hair, it's somewhat tricky. Nice job!
I hope you are still monitoring video responses to this tutorial, because I owe you my deepest gratitude! I live with and care for my elderly mother who has several very serious health concerns. At this point, she is practically homebound...but like practically every woman of every age, she wants her hair to look neat and clean, and if can look cute as well, her spirits are greatly uplifted. Her short hair was beginning to look frightful as her curly perm grew and we'd had to cancel every hair appointment because of her ability to get out. I looked on-line at several "how-to" videos and I admit to be terrified of trying to do it. Yours was practical, calm and with easy-to-follow guidelines. Your voice, almost more than anything, got me through the experience, as I kept pausing and replaying, until finally, I just listened while I worked, almost like you were there! The end result? What can I say? Mom's new hairstyle looked amazingly good and more importantly, it won't require a lot of maintenance. I, on the other hand, was drenched in sweat, shaking (in spite of the calm I absorbed from you?) and my back feels like it is breaking in two! Everyone of you who do this for a living have my most profound respect! But thank you, thank you for your guidance!
Thanks for your kind words. I am glad the video helped to cut your mother's hair. I use the simple finger measurement technique to teach my new students how to cut without making mistakes. I take care of my mother-in-law, who fell and broke her hip last year and couldn't walk for a while. Believe me or not, she is 83 years old and had never cut her hair, but she kept it neat in a bun at her nape. For some reason, one day she asked me to cut it, but she just set on her bed and it was hard to cut without the convenience of the barber's chair, so I used the finger techniques which was fast and mistake proof. Her hair has since grown and back in the bun, but at least she experienced short hair once in her lifetime when it was necessary, because she was bed bound and we could only use dry shampoo on her.
That’s why I’m here too...my mother is now mostly housebound and I really want to be able to give her a nice smart short haircut instead of my usual snipping just bits off that are untidy. She suits her hair longer but she doesn’t like it so I’m going to give this finger technique a try..thank you.x
Thanks for that....my man's got fine hair like this lady....he asked me to cut it....my first attempt will be today...after watching this tutorial....it has been helpful kudos 🇦🇺😊👌❤
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have to cut my wife's hair during the lock-down time. I think even a bloke can understand this - great teacher. Thank you!
My mom lives in a nursing home, is wheelchair bound, and except for paying for transport (minimum $60) she is stuck in the home. The person who used to cut her hair isn't willing to do it anymore. I am hoping to be able to cut her hair myself. She has always had her had cut short like the lady in the video. I'm going to attempt the cut myself by following your video. My mom is up for it because as she says, "It will grow back.... fast." Obviously it will take numerous attempts to get something close to what you have done. Thank you for the step by step instructions.
May I add so important tips to this already knowledgable hair cutting lesson. Hair should be kept equally wet all over during the cut. Hair wet will be slightly longer than when it is dry (take this into account before cutting for the preferred results.) Curly hair can drastically look shorter once cut so better to cut less at 1st rather than too much. Curly hair once cut hides imperfections better than stick straight hair which is unforgiving of errors, it shows everything . Taking thinner sections to cut gives a cleaner/ smooth cut, than grabbing thick sections and trying to Finnish faster. I hope this helps to guide you with what already is a great video.
This is how I learned to cut hair 40 years ago,,by watching every hairdresser I could,,and I cut a lot of hair in those years..plus,you learn by doing..
This is a helluva of video! This is a great guide to cutting an older woman's hair, btw. My mom is 95 and doesn't want to go out and get her hair cut, anymore. It can be dangerous. So, being a good son, I've been cutting my mom's hair, instead. Before, I'd butcher her head...just god-awful! Now, with the help of this video, you can call me "Vidal". Yeah, baby! Thank you!!!!
Your comment made my day! Thank you so much for your support! I made this video for my students to keep watching and practicing the haircut, but I am glad that it helps you, too, to cut your mother's hair.
I have been a Hair Stylist since 2004 but I love your videos! Your videos would've helped me sooo much back then & they help now with new techniques! 💇💇
Lmao same 😂 about to cut my 94 year old grandma's hair. My daughter thought it was hilarious that she even has her hair cut as "its just fluff! Like a fluffy sheep!" 😂🐑
Just watched your very helpful video, as I'm going to cut my elderly mum's hair, as she's just out of hospital and is desperate for a trim. At least now I know what to do- fingers crossed 🤞

I had to cut my daughter's hair during the quarantine time and I don't like the way I did it, so I'm looking for techniques to help make the cut better.
Welp i just cut my mom's hair and it turned out pretty okay. She did complain about a lot of layers being not completely even, so i tried to fix it without taking off too much. But it's fine we are here
Hay thanks for this video. Im taking care of my grandmother now and she doesn’t want to go somewhere for a haircut and wants me to do it. This gives me an idea of what needs to be done! Thank you for the tutorial!
She has beautiful natural hair color ...I’m very jealous of the older ladies that have this color...like a silver white cloud color ☁️...very nice cut on her.
The teachers today are Out to Lunch. After the 80's I don't know what happened to the Art of Hairstyling. Most of todays stylists are very inept and the only thing stylists can do is whack off Hair, Flat Iron, & Blow dry it into a mess.
Stevie Sugano I'm in Cosmetology School and my teachers are actually very old fashioned! They teach us a lot of the old stuff: focusing more on perms and relaxers (which is almost obsolete thanks to Keratin treatments) and also hairstyling(wet, dry). Most schools nowadays don't even teach you how to do a proper blowout, they don't even section it and rely on the flat iron! The only problem I'm having is that they mainly speak Spanish and they're supposed to give the class in English too and they usually don't. So eventhough I do speak Spanish, I learn theory in English. Other than that my teachers are awesome! I love them and I love going to school!
Beauty school is to learn the basics of hairdressing, coloring, perms haircuts etc... you learn advanced training in going to classes and seminars, and learn more in your first years after school than ever. We never quit learning and should always keep continued education in our profession, just some advice. I enjoy watching the schools educate students and the advanced videos in Cosmetology.
This is one of the best short layered cut tutorials l have seen, thank you. I live alone and am in lockdown so will have a go myself. A little nervous.... haha..

God bless you guys. So beautiful to take care of the elderly.
Thank you! God bless you, too.
Awww 💜
Thank you!

This was honestly the only tutorial I could find that made sense and I was able to successfully cut my mom's hair. quarantine life.
That's great! I am glad you were able to cut your mom's hair. 😊
You welcome! I am sure you can do it with some practice. Let me know how it worked out.

This is 90 degree cut. I creates feminine, round shape.
Please don't ever delete this video. It has hped me to cut my grandmother's hair. The lady I take her to always cuts it too short.
So happy that the video has helped you cut your grandmother's hair.
May I add so important tips to this already knowledgable hair cutting lesson.
Hair should be kept equally wet all over during the cut.
Hair wet will be slightly longer than when it is dry (take this into account before cutting for the preferred results.)
Curly hair can drastically look shorter once cut so better to cut less at 1st rather than too much.

I love her waves so much and her silver hair is lovely.
I have been a Hair Stylist since 2004 but I love your videos! Your videos would've helped me sooo much back then & they help now with new techniques! 💇💇

Love this. I'm in cosmetology school and I learn so much more from you then my own teachers! Lol

Thank you so much for this video and taking the time to explain as you go along. It is giving me confidence to cut my 93 year old Mom's hair.
This is one of the best short layered cut tutorials l have seen, thank you. I live alone and am in lockdown so will have a go myself. A little nervous.... haha..
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for your kind words.
