This deserved an Oscar for the colors alone
Was boycotted because produced by Miramax and weinstein (yes the same Harvey) had made a lot of enemies
@@adeleg4759 What? Miramax didn't produce it, they just picked it up for American distribution. Amelie was nominated for Art Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography, Sound, and Best Foreign Language Film. Miramax movies that got nominated the very same year: A Beautiful Mind and Bridget Jones's Diary. A Beautiful Mind ended up winning 4 Oscars.

In his own words at 7:11
My parents were so annoyed when this movie came out because i was born just a few years before, and they named me Amélie. They thought everyone would be called Amélie too since this movie was a hit. However, i rarely meet other Amélies!
I'm a Amelie too!
Romantic comedies aren't usually my thing, but I love Amelie. It's such a quirky, feel-good film.
I’ve always found this movie disturbing, it’s interesting to see the different things people feel watching this one!
@@morwenk4910 how so? Yes, when you make such a profound statement, "disturbing". You need to provide us some reason/logic as to why you think that. Don't you agree?
@@jamesross8612 No, i can just say I always found it disturbing. I would have explained, but since you're asking so rudely, i won't.
@@morwenk4910 I'd like to know that too.
@@morwenk4910i adore this level of spite
Tis has been my fav movie since my first time watching it 20 yrs ago. Only the French could make such a movie. It's just gorgeous throughout. It's set in modern day Paris yet it looks so romantic era with the 4 colours and tints they used.
Very much so romantic, I loved the aesthetic
I watched this movie for the first time as a kid (terrible mistake) and only perceived it as a weird, rather nasty story. It is only after I grew up and found the courage to rewatch it as an adult that I finally realised how incredible it is.
Great movie. Highly recommend this movie’s soundtrack too. Beautiful music by Yann Tiersen.
One of my all time favorites.
She is such a fun character 😂
Amelie is a champion of LOVE! A do-gooder for the benefit of people she likes, an avenger against those she doesn't. You said it, Nia; Amelie is a QUIRKY, blithe spirit!
Nia so glad you enjoyed Amelie as much as I enjoyed your reaction to it!
Not me realizing that my coming up with my wild theories is the same thing she does haha!!! INFP's UNITE!!!!

I could google it, but I'd rather ask from a real one. INFP?
That happened to me a couple of times as an adult in recent years, falling asleep while watching something and having a weird fever dream. One was an episode of Dr Who and I dreamed of a massive alien invasion in my hometown. I even remember someone asking "maybe they're friendly", seeing this massive machine monstrosity in the sky, then it began shooting lasers all over the place and I go "nope, they're hostile, they're invading THEY'RE INVADING"!!!!! I woke up right after, Lol.
Oooooh Dr. Who is one that would definitely give crazy dreams 😂 😂 😂
I love this film so much.
It was great! Glass man is my fav 😂
@@jeanlucperez6626"Alors, allez-y, nom d'un chien!"
I lived in Montmartre, in the Abbesse district, when the movie was shot and realesed.
When I was a Child, my grand mother lived rue des 3 frères, where lies Collingon's Shop 😊
There are a lot, A LOT, of incohences in the locations 😂
There also are many swaps between the Gare du Nord and the Gare de l'Est, one beeing shot for the other one 😁
(I love the movie anyway. But I can't help But seeing those brutal locations changes 😁)
it's a fairytale.... it hasn't to be coherent
The guy playing the young handicapped grocer is in a fantastic French movie called Angel-A, directed by the guy who did 5th Element and The Professional (amongst many other good ones)
James Debouze
I love the scene in front of the mirror in Angel-A.
@@TerryNationB7 Oh yeah
@@metaphobic Jamel !
And Amelie's lover is in the 5th element..too..
Even if what Amelie did is questionable, some people don't need a new "boo". The red-haired lady spent decades loving the same man, her whole lifestyle has been of a married woman, and just like Amelie's dad who's also alone after his wife died, it's not companionship they want but either hope (letter) or a new scenery. Would anyone think the Glass Man needs a wife ? Not really, those people know who they are. Anyway, always glad to see people enjoy this movie 🇫🇷
1 of my all time fav foreign films. Happy to have seen your reaction.
I love this film.
It was super fun!
Such a unique and lovely movie.
This is such a clever, quirky and heartfelt film.
Loved this movie . magical.❤
The first time I saw it in my hometown of Bordeaux in 2002, I finished with a broad grin and wanted to hug everyone and to make everyone happy.
Bordeaux 🍷❤️🇨🇵
Happy, sugary films aren't my thing...but I've always loved Amelie.
(I'm an INFP, btw)
This is my number one feel good movie.
Amelie
One of my favourite films!
Whatever you do, don't mess with Amélie..
great reaction to great film, 1 of my best
Audrey Tautou ❤
J'ai vu son sosie dans l'armée canadienne.
Exactement la même tête, la même morphologie, etc.
this is one of my top 3 movies of all time, a masterpiece
(the others are "little miss sunshine" and "the grand budapest hotel")
The guy who plays the love interest is a famous director on his own. Can check "Le Heine" (The Hate) for his most famous movie. It's sort of like "American History X"
It's "La haine"

You might like the "Amelie: The Musical". There are several versions available here on UA-cam to watch. The UA-cam version, "Phillipa Soo looking a lot like the girl from Amelie (Audio Fixed)" Phillipa Soo version /watch?v=fFTG4_c0Hvg whom is also on the Broadway soundtrack. A pre-Broadway version with Samantha Barks as Amelie, /watch?v=OAXUK3mTFAM Samantha Barks version, and she even covers its song "Stay" on her self-titled solo album. There is also the London cast album, and a German cast album with German language versions of the songs. There are some great clips online of the Japanese version of the show, and their paper cutout style stage background that was pretty amazing. I first saw this movie in a arts theater, with English subtitles, I wasn't a fast enough reader to catch everything, but I still love the movie, and wish they would have made a sequel, with Nino and Amelie having a kid, and the kid gets lost in Paris and starts helping everyone, and Amelie, and Nino have to find her. Audrey Tautou, was so cute in this movie I had a crush on her.
Esta peli es un homenaje a nosotros, los introvertidos
si, eso
My favourite feelgood movie, I think. Feelgood, yet combined with a (beautiful) melacholy. And those colours. The music. Everything.
When I saw this one in a cinéma in December 2001, I already had seen another Jeunet movie: "Delicatessen" (1991). Also very good and recommendable, but more twisted and... darker. With a.o. Dominique Pinon (who played the jealous stalker in "Amélie").
Yeah it’s hard to describe this movie, it has lots of different feels, to it. I may need to watch some of the other ones
@@NiaMakiReacts comme film français, il y a aussi " les choristes" que les autres pays aiment .
Everytime I clean my toolbox.. I remember this movie...
My guilty pleasure movies are the "Saw" and "Final Destination" franchises.
But, my favorite movies of all time are this one and "Across The Universe".
Thanks for watching this, it's my favorite movie. The soundtrack music by Yann Tiersen is amazing.
It was a great movie!
Love Jeunet's films one of my absolute favourite directors, Amelie is such amazing film but not my favourite of his that would be delicatessen a very sweet post apocalypse cannibal love story that is also extremely charming, but also a few have mentioned a very long engagement also brilliant. Weirdly the love interest in this is the director of another if my favourite movies La Haine a very different French film
this is tied with bladerunner 2049 as my favorite movie of all time, tho everything everywhere all at once is extremely close. all feature introverted characters and speak to me personally
15:30 what he said felt like a personal attack 😭
She's an Aspie too
That's Fitgirl Repack girl ❤
MANY OF US had already experienced his 2 previous INCREDIBLE MASTERPIECES, "Delicatessen & City of Lost Children" which I will only give one SPOILER! They are just as visually artistic, surprisingly imaginative & charming but while this is light & funny, those 2 are just the opposite! I SO RECOMMEND them! They are AVANTE-GARDE film classics
31:26 25 years ago, I did roughly the same thing as Amélie... and I also chickened out when asked about it
She looks like a young Audrey Hepburn from Wait Until Dark. Other classic comedy with strong females: Whoopi Goldberg: Jumpin Jack Flash and Sister Act, Ruth Gordon in Harold and Maude; the black comedy with Winona Ryder Heathers; Barbra Streisand in What’s Up Doc and For Pete’s Sake, Goldie Hawn in Foul Play, Seems Like Old Times, Overboard, and Private Benjamin, Rosiland Russell in Auntie Mame and The Trouble with Angels. Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria.
You should watch "a very long engagement"
Same director, almost same actors.
Another piece of art. I think anybody would agree with that. Prepare a tissue box.
most men dislike peeing right next to another person.. lol
Only if there was an option to keep one empty between you and the other and you still get next to the man. That's just awkward. Unless you know each other and talk or are drunk and want to talk. If there are two toilets and you wait because you are ashamed to stand next to a man, it's equally awkward.
❤❤❤ one of my top 3 fav movies 🥹
I am not sure if non french people can completely grasp this movie. But it s a very cult movie for us, glad you discovered it 😊 even if it s very far from what Paris really is tho.
OUi, mais je comprends!
I'm an American, living in Minneapolis Minnesota. I saw this movie when it came out, when I was 44. I was completely charmed and smitten by it. Not just Audrey Tautou, but the cleverness of the writing, the cinematography, the energy and the sweetness and tenderness and longing. I think I've seen it somewhere between 15 and 20 times.
@@bobbabai glad you like it ☺
Hi … you must see "Deux jours à tuer" with Albert Dupontel
great movie
Merci de France à toi Nia Maki
This movie is so weird and sad and beautiful. I'm happy you chose to watch it.
Hello Nia
nothing is funnier than watching an american watching a european movie :) A lot of cultural differences are lost in translation :D in addition I think most americans (not you) are naturally more extrovert, direct and open
oh, I think it's about half and half. and then there's the ambiverts who need to recharge. But agree, it helps to know the French language, culture and to have a wild imagination, like we did.
Two things are visible. The cultural differences (EU vs US), but also the age difference. Some things mix together of course. Like the personal space and how (quickly) people get physical. Today this is quickly linked to bad behaviour, but it was not always the case in those days - man or women. And especially in France. People enjoyed the physical part of getting to know people and accepted the small risk of things might end in sorrow or a degree of regret. But they didn't put everything in one basket or thought about shaming people online, for instance. And most French women could (and still can) be assertive enough if a boundary is crossed. Without the need to share it with thousands of online strangers.
But if you're not fluent in French you miss a lot of subtle jokes and nuances in the emotions.
Hi ! If you're looking for another movie from this director, I suggest you to check A Very Long Engagement. I warn you, it's a war movie therefore it's quite violent, but very underappreciated.
If you want to see another magnificent film with this actress I advise you A very long engagement
je ne sais pas comment on pourrait ressentir toute la poésie de ce film avec juste un sous-titrage.
Y'a forcément de la perte en ligne, mais tout ne passe pas non plus que par les dialogues
React to boondocks funny moments compilation please don't censor it
myres-briggs has been completely discredited , but she is weird and i like her
What is INFP
It's basically something tiktok people do to make someone have a specific personality. It's similar to those people who say "oh he's a capricorn so he's this and that, and he does this because he's a capricorn". Basically it's something people use to rotulate someone over their personality or zodiac sign
As an actual real INFP myself... its just a personality type. There are 16 personality types and for the most part the Myers Briggs system the classification comes from is pretty accurate, the thing is, a personality type isnt you 100%... If you're an INFP you arent one all the time in every situation, but its your strongest personality foot forward , the personality you fall back on the most in life so to speak... As an example im an INFP, but in the right rare social situations I can be an ENFP and if required I can shunt my INFP habits to the side and be as hard and logical as any INTP would (although its hardlol)... a person who is strictly 100% their personality type all the time in every situation (especially an INFP) may need some help, as its not healthy to live like that.
Sure its a 'pseudoscience' but its surprisingly accurate for the most part and shouldn't be taken to serious (some people do unfortunately) or be allowed to dictate your life, but like ALL psychology fields its still pretty much science-lite.
Personally i dont see Amelie as an INFP, there's some aspects of that type there sure but also others (as there would be).
@@NZBigfoot M-B is basically a survey of situations where you select from two choices of what you would do. I believe there were 40 questions total. It will certainly describe you based on your responses and depends on you being honest about yourself. It's not comprehensive, but certainly identifies your main tendencies. I came out as ENTN with the Ns exactly at 50%. E was 100% and T was 90%. Yeah...pretty much me.
@@NZBigfootbut you didn't explained what means "INFP", literaly.
I am French and well I don’t really like this movie probably because it made me cringe too much or,maybe because my sister made me watch it 2times in a row
