- On this episode of The Skid Factory we put the excuse book down and call for reinforcements to get the Big Block Crown back together.
A half dozen of our skilled mates put in a 3 day weekend to smash out a bunch of jobs including wiring the Haltech Nexus R5 and PD16, & Installing the Raceworks Fuel system.
We both fell very humbled to have such awesome mates that are willing to help us out!
Thanks legends ♥♥

Please note: We're just a couple of Mates hanging out in the shed, There's no big production companies, fancy cameras or Scripts, We love what we do and try our best to create quality content for you to enjoy every week. Sometimes that includes a steering rack conversion, Other times it's as simple as bolting on some wheels to our daily drivers. Don't forget that working on cars isn't easy and can be dangerous. Use Ya Brain and take the necessary safety precautions whenever you're modifying your car. Consume Lemon Squash responsibly & Thanks for watching.

Absolutely dying at the screen saver when they were explaining the r5 😂
I found it hilarious. That was such a neat touch.

@@stillious yes.
This ep is so wholesome, you clearly have a great bunch of mates. This build has also been a ripper journey so far, can't wait to see the finished car!
Wholesome is the perfect word for it.
No bodyroll hopefully
The first two times you said "Thanks for watching," I didn't believe you. But that third time! I'm convinced. Another amazing project. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching
I love how Woody's intonation for the voiceovers sounds like he's spelling a name over the phone and his normal voice sounds more like ordering a beer from across the pub. True versatility.
This thing is so nice. Truly the culmination of learning a shitload and saving like a nun for years, by the look of it.
That is tremendously accurate
I really appreciate Woody's pronunciation and annunciation in his voiceover performances. Thanks Woody!
Woody means (slightly) wooden.
How Tim and Woody didn't crack when that desktop picture popped up I don't know, had me in stitches, lovin' the work gents 👍🏻🍻
Sounds like when it was the slow kids turn to read a few pages of the book in high school english
As much as I love a "she'll be right" Aussie car build. It's awesome when you see a build done right the first time, with the right gear and a well thought out plan. Considering it's Al's own ride, I expect nothing less. Such a great, humble crew, makes this one of the best channels around.
This is a prime example why I prefer to watch car channels from Australia. Always extremely informative and entertaining. I'm always learning something new as well. One of the best channels on UA-cam in my opinion. Do yourself a favor people and subscribe.
Watching TSF and your mates putting this together is like therapy for me too. It makes me feel like I can get my own projects done (eventually) and reminds me to call my mates to hang out and help out - I don't have to do it all myself.
Awesome episode as always guy, fantastic. That desk top pic though, had me pissing myself 😂😂😂
With all the work Al and Woody have put into their friends vehicles. Its awesome to see all a whole whack of friends come together for a good time and a good project.
love this build, the colour, the engine choice, the non purity while maintaining the original look, I love all of it
I reckon you lot should come together on another new build and race a car? Nothing better than mates coming together not only to bond and hang out but to build something together which is priceless in itself. Nothing beats having mates around.
We had a crown with a 186hp block back in the early 80’s as my parents family car so this is bringing back good memories. Keep up the good work guys and good to see everyone chipping in.
Has to be by far my fav eps, not only the car but to see mates coming along together to make everything happy. Thats great fun! very Wholesome! hope everything goes good Al and mates!
This is why I like this channel you build cars for people like me would never get to see this. Till UA-cam came along. I like it friends get together to help on a project it’s a experience like no other.
Best mates anyone could ever ask for!
Good to see the grom getting involved too, especially because the due date is for them.
I never went to my formal, let alone i never had a dad or a car. Count your blessings!
I know I'm late to the party. It's so awesome that Al and Woody have all these people that will come together to lend a hand! We can't forget Al's wife for helping keep this group fed!. Cool video guys!!
Great vid and a great display of how much the boys really appreciate and respect all the work Al (and woody) have done for them and their cars.
I hope everyone reading this is as blessed by a great group of mates. If not now then in the near future!
Excellent video gents
My first car was a 68 Crown. Fantastic to see this build come together. Far cry from drums all round and the old 2M engine! Can’t wait to see the finished car. Really enjoyed the video. Informative and entertaining. Thanks.
What a awesome way to spend a weekend, nothing better than a bunch of friends working away at getting a car rebuild hammered out 👌🏻
The Toylet Crown is going to be epic! Shed mates are a fantasy of us all, so thanks for showing the possibilities to the loaner types.
This is what car shows on TV are missing: an amazing build with in-depth explanations of how it is done, with mates stepping up to help get it done in time for the Grom's formal.
So great to watch and so motivating to get my own projects done!
Looking good, Al and Woody! Al, you’re right about daunting tasks going quicker with your good friends around to lend a hand.
What a car! What a great group of mates! What an episode!
Everybody pichin in, Al, this is testament to all the time and hard work you have put in to all your mates over the years. They care. Ya gets out what ya puts in!
Good on ya Woody for pulling this all together. Heart warming.
The car is looking schmicko, can't wait to see the end product. More importantly, thanks for shouting out and encouraging people to reach out when they need help, especially if they are feeling a little overwhelmed.
Thank you guys. It was so refreshing to see a team of friends getting stuck in and just getting the job done. Nice work guys
That looks so nice! Thanks All, Woody and rest of your crew. My favourite youtube channel and advertised your videos for my mates here in Finland.
BTW we are considering about to get a dog, but Allan what breed is your dog?
He's a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Very loyal and protective but not aggressive.
What a great episode. So good in fact I put my skid factory tshirt on and went straight out to work on one of my cars!!
Brilliant channel. When the genuineness and friendship comes out of the screen like that it's hard to miss. Well done guys.
Go to the chemist and buy some Glycerine. Rub it into the window rubbers and let it penetrate into the rubber. Do it once a week until the rubber is like brand new. It can take a while depending on how dry the rubber is but it is cheap and easy to find and very gentle on rubber, it won't turn it into mush, and is completely harmless to paint and metal. You don't have to remove the rubbers either but can do it on the car. It takes about 5 minutes to do.
The piece of rubber hose over the drill bit so you don’t smash the chuck when you punch through. Absolutely elite, I’ll definitely be using that trick some time!
I love the subtle nod to Bad Obsession Motorsports
Best episode to date lads, a bunch of mates getting together to get it done, doesn't get any better than that 👌
This is awesome.!! Seeing a bunch of mates thrashing on a car just makes me happy. Reminds me of a lot of great times. Every man needs a Hobby something he can enjoy and share with his mates. 😁🥃👍
Cannot wait to see this car cruising around the sunny coast. Great work team you have there.
Just as silkysixx said, Woody's voiceovers reminds me of the Leyland brothers doco's I used to watch when I was young, maybe he is Mal or Mike's son. Keep it coming boys I am liking what you are doing. You are right about keeping interest going Al, have a WB ute sitting over 15 years, had 2 heart ops and still poking along. One day...
They say fools or children comment on unfinished work. I don't know which one I am as I did think it was an ordinary project in the early days. Top job fellas!
Awesome work boys. So impressive with all the glass and shiny bits back in. Photo shoot with the hako would be gold..
I reckon hanging out with mates in the shed, doing shit and drinking piss is better than any party! Great work champions!
Must be a bloody great feelin to have something you have dreamed about building for 14 years coming together like this nearing first drive.
Great episode. A building working bee is always great and does help morale that's for sure!
Love it. Love the hard work getting put in. Love how woody organised all ya mates to rock up and throw some time in. Love this thing of beauty being built in front of me. Love all of it.
Nice to see. My first car was a 1969 crown, same colour. Fully imported model with bucket seats, four? on the floor manual and tinted windows. It even had an autotune radio. Written off when an unlicenced and unregistered drive came through a GiveWay sign.
Love this video, all you guys pulling together to help out and Gus learning too! Awesome!
What an absolutely fantastic looking project! Great group of guys too. I know that completely overwhelmed feeling of not even knowing where to start on tasks. Thanks for being an incredible inspiration! Love from Canada. ❤️🇨🇦
Great episode Woody and Al, really enjoyed it. Really nice to see all your mates pull together for you like that to make some massive progress on the Crown. Just a bunch of guys, some well known to us, some maybe not so much, but all just having a grand old time doing guy stuff. It doesn't get any better than that! And, Al's wife keeping everyone fed, Roger sniffing crotches, tossing back a couple of Cocoas, etc, etc - just "deadly" as my Canadian friends would say :)
Cheers and Thanks, Sev
fantastic episode, old man yells at clouds, beautiful car is built
Grab a Dimmy and a Pie. On ya big fella. You’re my spirit animal.
Excellent episode. Brilliant group of friends 👏. Smashed out a whole host of jobs. Car is really coming along nicely. Going to be one sweet ride . Well done guys
Beautiful work lads, I miss our old working bee's with my mates...not that they ever happened much.
That car is also so beautiful...
The screensaver, the wrong side of the hammer and the man love.
Probably my favourite episode ever.
You guys are very lucky to have a group of buddies like this. Call them all in a week to say thanks .
Thanks for the videos .
Priceless to have ya mates help ya out ,as you help them out over time. You really know who your mate’s are. Brothers from another mother. 🇦🇺👍👍👍👍
What an amazing team, you guys all stepped to the plate no questions.
Awesome Job.
Love it
💪
Timmy is the real star of this episode
Nice to see some familiar faces and some new ones all jumping in to help 😁
Ohh yeah, can't wait to see this rad ride on the road.
Thanks to all the hommies for helping Al get this build a massive step closer to one of his dreams!
Excellent vid. Reminds me of my youth. If your bike needed work there was always mates who knew what needed doing. Whether it was 2 or 4 strokes.
It’s looking great! Little bites and the next thing you know it’s done!
What a bunch of absolute Legends.
Lookin good Al!!! Woody is a really good mate to have around.
15:35 Can I tell you story? Last night I was thinking about car springs. Specifically, those on my ute. Then my head went back to around 1989/90 when I had not long moved to Rockhampton. I was working for a transport company and we had a client, Dobinson's Springworks. They operated on the southside of Rockhampton behind their house, in a shed. If memory serves correct, they were in Campbells Street? I could be wrong.
They got a contract to refurbish LandCruiser springs for an exploration company in PNG. Every few weeks they'd ship a pallet of leaf springs over to PNG. I believe that it may have been, besides some work for the coal mines, their first big contract. Some years later they bought some land in the industrial estate on the Northside of Rocky and expanded their facilities, becoming one of the best spring (coil or leaf) manufacturers and refurbishers in Australia.
Thanks for reading. The hat just threw that Dobinson's memory back into my head.
Love it, gonna be awesome once complete! Good on ya for mentioning a bit of mental health and asking/offering help to ya mates 🤙
Looking awesome guys. What a great bunch of guys too and it’s not work if you’re having fun. 👊🏻
On beat "switch goes on, switch goes off!" Pure quality!
love the hose pipe on the drill bit trick, cheers!
great to see alot of help when the call to action goes out 👍🤘
I can see the Grommet following in Dads footsteps a great way to learn from a great bunch of Blokes!
Great work Al and Woody's friends thanks for sharing your weekend.
Bought back some memories of long nights and weekends working on cars with my mates. My project will be coming back soon and I'm hoping to do the same thing again. Super keen to see the end result on this
Such an epic build. And the skilled comrades that jump in and help just go to prove what great guys you are. Thanks so much for sharing. Can’t wait to see it finished. Can’t wait to HEAR it finished.
Thankyou to all that helped once again, great stuff
Glad your ride is coming together Alan ! Shout out to all pitching in to help Legends !
Awesome episode guys. What a great bunch of mates. Clearly you have both done alot for them and with them. The crown looks smick.....
Imagen being Alan's son and ya school mates dad's are just cracking a cold one watching your father build cars ! Haha so cool 😎
Two things I learned from this episode;
1. Have a lemon squash if you’re getting cross.
2. Dimmy and a pie, things will be all-rye
That’s awesome to have so many mates come help get a project done! Needs to happen a lot more.
Hello 👋 for Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 I love your build keep up the great work!!
Glad to see at least one Al in the scene has hates that actually come and help. Im an Al in same scene n when i ask for a hand, got no1. Nothing beats having laughs with the boys n drinking lemon squash, and at end of a killa day, heaps of work is done... 👌🤘
thanks for sharing and making yourselves for available.
Nice work guys, great to see everyone jump in and help out 👌
I remember weeks like this years ago when we were rallying our Datsun 1600 and Turbo Bluebird.
All the mates would come around to help us out and then come and service at the events too.
We could never thank them enough 👍
You guys have an amazing bunch of friends. I know how hard it is for the homies to be able to work around schedules and come together so for them all being able to be there to lend a hand in a time of need is truly amazing. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Looks like a crown is coming together. 😃👍
Thats such a good looking car. Love the 70’s japanese style! Gonna be epic! 😃
Well done guys, great to have such good mates.Hope it is all smooth sailing from here
So freaking amazing!!!!
The most inspirational thing anyone is going to see on the internet today, thats for sure!
awesome content. :)
Such an amazing bunch of mates!
I don't even know you Al and I'm still proud of you!
What a great bunch of mates pulling together and getting a pile of work done, and what a great mate in Woody for sending the Bat signal to bring in the cavalry.
Thanks Al for being so open and honest about mental health issues, this episode really shows how high a regard your mates have for you, and in turn so do we too.
Awesome content as ever. 🙌❤
Awesome to see so much done! Huge props to Guss for getting stuck in and learning it all!
Thanks!
Thanks Michael!
using house cable as a template is a genius idea .. and the time lapse about 15 mins in showing how many bodies answered Al's call made me smile
Electric air conditioning compressor and kit from Rencool in Queensland would finish this project off nicely and use up several of those spare outputs on the PDM it’s designed for a truck sleeper cab and draws 30amps on low and 60amps on high 😅
Woody: Your editing is ON POINT! Super PRO! The music!!!! The first 6 minutes are a sublime jam. Super content guys!
Great work guys! Always appreciate a shout out for men’s mental health.
Now that they have a front inlet big block system you need to talk Harrop into making a Small Block Chevy front inlet kit for us guys who want to keep their factory style hood/ bonnet.
It's in the pipeline for SBC and Windsor.
Great work boys well done what a weight off als shoulders can’t wait to hear it start
Using old romex (or the Australian equivalent) to mock up the wiring layout is ingenious!
Great to see some old faces back with a smile. Epic work boys not far to go now car looks 💯
Always something to learn from your videos, from how to lay out a loom to using fuel hose as a depth gauge for drilling. Love your work lads, thanks for showing us how it's done.
awesome episode, absolutely blast one. It's nice to see that you have so many friends who can help. I'm building myself alone same model but wagon one, planning 350 chevy in it.. bit hard sometimes and then I get frustrated. all my friends just wants to get drunk and rarely does anything.
and yeah, definitely subbed, want to see when this is finished!
Absolutely dream realisation and evolution! Heartwarming to see good guys doing great work to help a cracking bloke! Woodie you are legend
