Pujols definitely was the best hitter of the 21st century when you look at the amount of time he was great (10-11 years) during the 2000s, but Barry Bonds had arguably the 4 greatest statistical seasons of all time* from 2001-2004.
Most hits in a WS game (5). Most bases in a Postseason game (14) Tied for most RBI in a WS game (6), tied for most runs scored in a WS game (4), tied for most HR in a WS game (3)
I can't help but watch this periodically. What an amazing hitter. I hope Albert has a pain free year and can enjoy the game he brings so much enjoyment to fans.
Best player to come out the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴 and I'd say Top 10 of all time. In his first 10 years Al' was simply fantastic...really great player.
I love Albert Pujols and I am not mad he left for Anaheim because he gave Cardinal fans so much to cheer for eleven years. I hope this year he has a comeback
He's said PLENTY of things great. What are you talking about? If Joe Buck were to go on a rant for a huge homerun, he'd get criticized for being too dramatic. If he says a simple sentence he gets blamed for being too vanilla and mellow. Oh but let Vin Scully say something simple for what was a huge moment and people praise him for keeping it short and sweet? I don't love Joe but he's a decent announcer.
Ahem. "Here comes the 0-1, this is gonna be a tough play, Bryant, THE CUBS, WIN THE WORLD SERIES!! IT'S OVER! BRYANT MAKES THE PLAY! AND THE CUBS, HAVE FINALLY WON IT ALL!!!!! 8-7 IN 10!" THAT is the best thing Joe Buck has ever said.
Ami Onuki Yeah I remember when Geoff Jenkins was in the same situation. Hit a solo, 2 run, and 3 run homer. He actually got a shot with the BASES LOADED in his last at-bat and popped up. Just getting a shot at that is amazing. The odds are so against you coming up with the bases loaded in any game.
By far my favorite highlight. I am 59 and have hoped for many many things in my life. Health for family, world peace. Pretty high up there is the hope Albert can enjoy a Renaissance for the remainder of his career.
Yes, "The Machine" was the perfect nickname. I saw him play many times and he hit the ball hard more than any player I've ever seen. I remember when they showed the "heat chart" (his batting average in the various parts of the strike zone) on him on a televised game. He was hitting .600 on balls thrown down the middle!
@@CROOKCOUNTY18 Bonds was certainly greater, but with a qualifier. I saw him play many times (I went to Cardinals games and Pittsburgh was in our division). In Pittsburgh and his first few years in San Francisco Bonds was slender and fast, around 175, 180 pounds. He was great, but nobody would rank him as highly as Pujols during this 10 year period. Only when he blew up with 50 pounds of PED-aided muscle did he turn into Superman (he got so much bigger it was laughable). If we ignore his obvious use of PED's, then I agree that Bonds was better. That said, Albert's body never changed during his first 10-12 years and he was never accused of PED use, so I'd give him the edge. He would definitely have benefitted from PEDs...his body began to fail around his 14th year. With a little miracle medicine he could have reached 800 HRs.
@@ww9452 Agree 100%. Pre-steroids Bonds was a terrific player and a sure Hall of Famer, but no Pujols. He literally packed on 50 pounds of muscle (going from 175 pounds to 225+) with all of the illegal PEDs, which disqualifies him in my book. The HoF-voting writers seem to feel the same way.
He went from being worshiped in St.Louis to pretty much irrelevant in LA. He might have went on to be the greatest Cardinal of all time and that's saying a lot for such a storied franchise.
Andrew Shelby Albert is very well liked and has been winning the fans with his dedication and determination towards baseball. The Pujols decade will never come back, but with Trout, Aybar, Caulhun and Weaver / Richards / Street the Angels might win a World Series, and Pujols will be idolatred also. By the way, he has now 14 HR.
Andrew Shelby you have no idea what you are talking about we chant his name like crazy during a game. We love most of our players. I swear you cardinal fans act like you guys are the best but nope you forget that other fan bases have fanatics and angels have some of the best.
+Samuel Sanchez The cardinals also dont spend BIG contracts to get players. Their farm system is one of the best, they could not come close to LA's contract, and a great way to show RESPECT to the player is to pay him the most. His career speaks for itself. Ofcourse it would be a story book dream for him to stay in STL, but its obvious why it didnt work out. LA is a great team i want to see them win a world series soon with this stacked lineup
This stacked lineup is slumping hard right now. :/. the angels farm system is just terrible and we have great pitching prospect but when it comes to hitting well we don't have that many. I do still have that hope as a fan that we might have a shot if we somehow sneak into the playoffs though :)
As a cardinals fan, I loved (almost) every moment of this series and of course brining home the trophy! Stressful at times, but brings back amazing memories--seems like a totally different time even though it was just 9 years ago, and I keep realising just how good this WS was

He's amazing, always has been. If he doesn't get a freaking swan song like Jeter and Ortiz just because he doesn't play in NY or BOS it will be a freaking joke. Man's a legend and still playing fairly high level.
+Chris James if you think about it once he retires he will've had a far better career than both of them except for jeter's hits and SB's and I still can't believe that with the era we live in where power hitters are striking out over a hundred times that the most pujols has struck out in his career was 94 times which he did in his rookie year and since then has never been close to 90 strikeouts in every other year even in his bad seasons with the angels
Albert Pujols back then was an absolute beast. But away from baseball he is an incredibly nice man, and does so much for charity, and loves to give back. A genuinely nice man, and wish him nothing but the best in the future. Just wish he could of worn a White Sox uniform. Nice dream!
