I printed my reports, signed up with betterment, acorns, and personal capital. I really have to get my finances straightened out. Thanks so much!

My 15 minute fix was realizing that whatever I want to purchase, like for example a $10 shirt, costs me 1 hour of TIME working at my job in order to be able to purchase it. Knowing that I would be purchasing with not just money but TIME has caused me to hold off on purchasing many things.

The best advice to fix your finances is to STOP LYING. Stop lying to yourself, stop lying to others in everyway. Stop ignoring the mess and get real about how you got into trouble. Make a plan with prior knowledge that your plan will derail at some point. IT WILL happen. Life deals the worse blows on finances. When it does, regroup and start again as many times as it takes. Set backs are not failures. You only fail when you give up or never try. Turn off the damn TV and games for 1 hour per month. No more than that. Look at your finances at the beginning of every month. Sacrifice until not only have you saved an emergency fund, but you have 1 to 2 months worth of take home pay or total amount of of bill costs, so that you already have what you need on hand for the upcoming month of bill payment and you don't have to wait until your next payroll to pay bills. You can map out your bill payments in the prior month and make adjustments as needed. But you won't make irrational decisions based on stress, fear, etc... and the BIG reason is, it will save you from late fees, finance charges, and interest from paying late or not paying enough. You need to mentally know how much you need for all of your bills at a minimum. Write down when all of your bills are due and memorize that info. Put them in your phone's calender and set it to send you an alert 7 to ten days prior to the due date. Pay family and friends first. They are your lifeline. If you cross them you will find that a coldhearted world awaits you out there when they won't help you out of a jam anymore because you were a jerk back in 98'.

Love these videos Jeff! I would say 90% of my financial advice comes from youtube. So far it has worked out very well. I've eliminated a LOT of debt and repaired my credit after a failed business venture. Again, thanks for sharing such great info sir, it helps!

Jeff Rose Absolutely! My fiance has actually stopped going to school so we can work on our business! Her degree was going to cost us YEARS of payments, in a field where the maximum pay cap is about 60k a year! That did NOT make good financial cents! haha.

You are never too busy for things it's really a matter of being efficient and making time. I learned that as I tried to push myself to do more things. It can be done.

I began to pay more attention to the out go. I was looking at my statements a few months back and notice I was spending over $ 600 on things I couldn't account for. My solution was too take a certain amount I use for gas and other things each week so I don't touch my main bank account.

Jeff Rose I opened an Acorn account yesterday, canceling subscriptions and starting to pay more attention to my spending. I wish I knew about some of these tips years ago. I am 48 and wish it is not too late to start saving. I do have a 401k but just lost my job. It took this for me to realize that I need to make some changes. Will definitely save more once I get a job.

Great advice man, but regarding closing the credit cards, i'll have to disagree. If I understand correctly, the average age and oldest age of your credit is directly related to the oldest cards you have. One of my oldest cards, the paypal extras mastercard (terrible card, would not recommend) I pay for spotify every month to keep active. That way the limit counts toward my overall credit limit, a well aged account looks good on my report, and it stays active since it's being used. Took this advice from @BeatTheBush and sits in an old ammo box with a dozen other cards thats doing the same.

I may close the younger one later on but at the moment I'm trying to have my credit optimal to refinance

Just separated our rental property mortgage payment to it’s very own account that will over time accumulate the balance remaining after the payment is out. And I’m too stingy to take the money out (about $30) and pay the transaction fee so it’s gonna be slowly saving up

Limit yourself to one or 2 payment methods : for examle cash and credit card ! That my 15min hack :p
I know people that have a lot of payement methods : Like 2 or 3 credit cards , cheque, online payments and ofc cash ! They usually get bad surprises when they receive their credit records !

The 1 thing that helped me, and I think, will help a lot of other people, is... setting up an automatic payment plan that pays yourself 1st. I think that's the only way to go. You can set this up to fund your Roth or Emergency Fund. Just about any fund you can think of. ;-)
