      Check out my video on replacing the exhaust tube as well. I had it burn off the protective heat wrap again thus almost causing the same issue.

    So thankful for this step by step video. I just did the same thing to mine and if it wasn't for you I would have never been able to. My car went completely dark one day and the engine cut off. The next day got it going again and I shit you not it was on fire! I put it out fast without too much damage but my wires were fried and I learned so much watching this..Again thank you for making this video.

    Thank you! After a new battery and alternator which ran me almost $400, It was this damn wire the whole time that was preventing the alternator from sending power to the battery. I got a new one on ebay for $45 and did it myself. Its a lot easier on the SOHC model because theres more space to work and less tubing/hoses compared to the zetec. I guess thats some of the very few good things to say about the infamous SPI engine lol.

    2003 focus se zetec wagon here.. there is a 2nd cable coming off my positive that looks to be about 8 guage and is split into 2 wires going into the battery junction box..this is the feed that supplies all current for accesories ,guages ect and I dont see it shown on ur replacement wire... The new wire positive seems to feed to starter and alternator so How is the battery junction box fed?

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  3 роки тому

      That wire is separate and gets attached to the bolt on top and held down by a nut. You should be able to separate it from the old harness. If you still need more help shoot me a message on instagram and I'll send you some pictures. Thanks for watching

    Thanks for this video. I've been searching all day for alternator replacement and cable replacement as mine are fried... I know this is a super old video but I have just one question. I'm drawing a blank but I've got everything taken apart except that middle ground post terminal on the cable. I can't seem to figure out or see where that ground terminal is on the car. On the wire it is just before the starter connections ( in between the terminals and the starter cables). Please if you can assist. Thank you.

      If you are talking about the same one I am thinking about it bolts to the fender right behind the battery. Sorry for the super late response. Thanks for watching! I hope that helped.

    Thank you very informative video. Can you please help me with the cables that come from the car do all Ford focus come with it the ones you said that were exposed and needed to be replaced? I have a 2002 Ford focus se.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  2 роки тому +1

      Not all of them come with the same kind. I have seen a few designs but they all are cheaply made.

    My car just had an engine bay fire because of this EGR tube. A lot of stuff got destroyed. I'm not replacing the entire cable assembly so I'm wondering what gauge the battery cables are and that smaller wire?

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  5 років тому +1

      Nick Truskowski mine was 4ga. I would recommend making the wire long and not running it along the battery box. Also I would put some GOOD heat shield next to the battery. My egr heat shield has already started to break down from the heat. This is just a bad design from Ford.

    • @NickBEADG
      @NickBEADG 5 років тому +1

      @@DaveMedicus so the factory wires are 4 gauge on the focus? Someone was telling me they're 8.

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  5 років тому +1

      Nick Truskowski bigger is always better it won’t hurt to put 4ga on. Some of the wires were 8ga and even smaller.

    couldn’t you just patch the damaged insulation and run a separate alternator wire

    • @DaveMedicus
      @DaveMedicus  19 годин тому +1

      On mine it was too far gone. A lot of the wire was broken. It was just a safer option to replace it all. The wires are cheap now since the vehicle is so old. Thanks for watching
