MY CABLE WAS TOTALLY CORRODED! You could not tell at first glance. My terminal clamp wasn't too bad but it wouldn't tighten down all the way. When I went to replace the terminal clamp I noticed the cable was totally corroded. I cut off an inch and it was still totally corroded. I'm sure that if I continued to cut I'd fined the entire cable would be totally corroded. It's that bad! It looks like the previous owner already cut the cable back at least once. The OEM part is ordered.
@@AGtheGEEK I replaced the entire cable and the terminal clamp. When I cut away the insulating plastic the entire cable was very badly corroded. I could not see the problem until I started to change the terminal clamp. I was having sporadic starting problems for about a year before that. None since. Five months now
Thanks man! You saved me the two hours of messing with the cover. I’m just going to cut the white wire and pull back the cover enough to get the bolt loose.
Same in my focus, the terminal was broken and I used a couple negative cables but none of them works so I will order the cable in OEM page and hope that works because that’s my last hope… and also my radio died…
After removing the old battery wires/terminals, distilled vinegar and boiled/warm water would have cleaned those terminals right up. that and maybe hit it again with that wire brush.
Hey! Randomly found this. My Focus threw a battery light and I replaced both the alternator and battery as both were about due anyway. However the light didn’t go out and my terminals especially the negative was very corroded. I had no idea the negative had a sensor in it. I’m wondering if your car was throwing a battery light as well? Also do you have a link for the OEM cables?
Im curious if that white wire is for the alternator or what, i wanna relocate my battery to the rear and idk if i should have to extend the white wire also or just connect it to that bolt on the distribution plate.
I have the same problem. My factory battery was leaking acid all over, replaced and now it's leaking from the same place as yours. Ford should pays us for their mistakes! It's bs man.
Have you had any corrosion come back? Since you just spliced the wire . Just trying to see if I need to replace the whole white wire or just do what you did
I know this is a 10 month old comment but the corrosion in the video is a very clear sign the battery is seeping around the battery terminal. This seepage may only be highly acidic vapors and no actual liquid escaping, but it is still a leak. Metals corrode very quickly when exposed to acids. The corrosion will come back until the battery is replaced. Also best to coat the terminal connectors in lithium grease to reduce potential corrosion.
Ford makes some crappy connectors Bro. Like how much more & easier would it be to put heat shrink on those things instead of wrapping that garbage electrical tape around em'. Amateur hour at it's finest.
So I had an issues with battery and battery wires were corroded so they told me it will be around 473 after replacing both and labor. I see there are these cables listed for $30 on multiple sites and battery isn't that expensive either. Is 473 a fair price for replacement and labor? Please let me know, thanks
Sorry to comment on year old post. But remember when visiting dealer you are not paying wholesale prices on parts that you find online, the oem parts you find online are usually from dealers that have had parts for a certain amount of time and so they let parts go for less than list pricing. Most dealers charge "matrix pricing" they add 10% to list price of parts. I've worked parts department in many dealers and have seen how much they mark up. As far as labor goes each shop and dealer has there own rates, depends if they are privately owned, or by big companies such as Penske auto group, or sonic automotive group
So unfortunately the battery cable didn’t fix my radio problem. I ended up replacing the head unit and sync display with a used OEM unit I got off eBay for cheap and that solved the problem. I couldn’t tell you if 2nd head unit suffered the same issue because I traded the car in for my F150 back in 2019 but it was working fine when I traded it in.
@@mpbiv421 thanks for the reply! It seemed to have magically fixed itself, so I'm not gonna screw with it until I replace the cable. Thanks again, hope you're enjoying the truck
Did anyone see any issues with their windshield wipers due to battery issues. My windshield wipers turn on by themselves...also when I hit it in reverse the back windshielf turns on HOWEVER ..I cleaned the battery due to excess corrosion bleeding etc and the back windshield works fine now .. the front windshield still has issues
Did you ever figure this out? My front wipers randomly go on and off. I’m thinking it’s a short but I changed wiper module and fuse and still happens. Maybe corrosion?
@@GarretSenne hey so what I happened to do is clean the battery cables from corrosion ( they were bad ) and got a new battery and stopped! @@frank_jus_frank1983 if your fronts are on and you put it in reverse the rear wiper is automatic. Not sure why but my fronts go full speed at random times and the switch is useless on them
I read somewhere that ford uses the windshield wipers an indicator for battery condition. I had the same issue, replaced the battery and it went back to normal as far as not turning on by themselves.
Armando Zapata I did but didn’t end up filming it. Had to replace the Sync upper unit. Bought a used 2016 Focus unit off eBay for $68 and that did the trick
Fuckin Ford man. Dealer told me it's the Florida sun that's messing it up. Whatever, my wife's battery cables in her Kia Soul is just fine after 11 years. Go figure.

Yes I probably could have kept using the negative terminal..... but once the terminals begin corroding, the surface finish is gone and it's only going to get worse. When I had this car, it was my daily driver, so I didn't want to wait until it gave me worse problems to replace it.

That little box on the negative terminal where that wire connects controls your windshield wipers too
