Agreed, I've watched them all and this is my favorite review so far. I pre-ordered and was hoping for this to be my carry around everywhere hybrid camera, but Lee is the first one to show that IBIS off in video while walking and lets just say, it looks like it may leave a lot to be desired...

Yeah that sensor is beautiful. I’ve heard some people criticize the lens not being able to keep up with it but I honestly feel like it can. I don’t know if there has been variants in review units but mine is super sharp wide open

as a fan of compact fixed lens cameras, this will be my end-of-the-line camera, with this and my Pentax mx-1 I'll be satisfied for a long time.
You need a Leica Q series to complete your compact fixed lens camera life. But I suppose the X100 has always been the poor man's Leica Q or M series.
@@michaelbell75 I have the x100s it’s great. Leica is too expensive for me rn. It’s not needed, I think leica is truly for people who take photography to another level. But as a recent college graduate I don’t have the funds to afford any type of leica atm. Nothing wrong with a x100 series, it does the job that is needed to be done. And x100 series have always pushed near 2k, so “poor man” isn’t really poor

Great video! I really appreciate you mentioning and showing the digital teleconverter. I use mine quite often on the x100v but would be so nice to have that 40mp sensor for that.

The camera looks great, but it is still not as aesthetically pleasing as my Nikon FM2N, Pentax Spotmatic SP, or K1000. For digital, I shoot Sony and don't have a need for another camera, but Fuji is crushing it. Great content as usual!

Lee , the best review of this camera, by far !!! Do you agree with me that after this camera the hopes of seeing an X-Pro4 one day were completely gone? I know it's not the same camera, but why develop an x-pro4 if the X-t and X-h line already exists.
There will be an xpro4. People love that camera style
If you really look at it, it's an XT5 in an X 100 form factor and that's not a bad thing because that camera is amazing. Honestly if you haven't used an XT5, you don't know what you're missing out on it's a huge upgrade from the XT4 and I know a lot of people complained about the megapixels and all that blah blah stuff but honestly this is a great camera I'm sure I'm even thinking about getting one as a backup camera to my XT5 is a bit of a fun thing to get. I shoot professionally with a number of different cameras including a GFX camera and a Nikon camera but there's always room for a little X X100 in my kit. So I think it's a great camera and I'm sure it will take great images because the XT5 does and I know how good that camera is. I think it's such a good form factor camera as well and if they didn't upgrade it then no one would buy it if they just came out with another 26 megapixel camera with no upgrades and everyone would say why would I upgrade they had to upgrade the megapixels and they had to put IBIS in otherwise it's no upgrade. I think it will be a great camera. Honestly I've used the XT5 now for so long and I still have this camera and it will not leave my hands, even though I have a GFX camera as well.

Silver is the move. It’s the right amount of flashy. The black is more of a sleeper camera. It’s less flashy and wouldn’t stand out. I feel like the silver just looks more special 🤷🏻♂️
What is the point of the digital teleconverter? If you shoot at 23mm, you get more options to crop later. Perspective will be the same anyway. Bummed that it doesn't seem like custom recipes work with video this time either.
The jpeg will be cropped w/ the digi teleconverter but you’ll still have the uncropped image in the raw file.

People complaining about price. They forget inflation exists or don’t even know what inflation is. Adjusted for inflation the original x100 was technically more expensive than the x100vi. 😂
Yep. Plus there is more tech in this. It’s like buying a double cheese burger in 2019 and then buying a triple cheese burger in 2024 and expecting it to cost the same. Would I love that? Of course but manufacturing and materials also cost more now so it is what it is with everything not just cameras
Nice vlog Lee, can you get hold of the Tele converter that goes to 50mm (FF equiv) and test the auto focus tracking? Man I'd be tempted to shoot weddings with that little camera, imagine the weight cut!

Nope but I want it. I also liked how you said you don't have access to raw and you can only shoot jpeg so you must nail the shot. I feel a lot of photographers don't think this way because they think the photo is in the edit. I think the photo is in the moment you press the shutter button and editing is only the last resort. I like to live by straight out of camera mentality. Live by the JPEG.
Use HEIF. It’s 10 bit.

Stating the obvious, but the digital zoom is just a digital in-camera crop. It may provide a similar focal length, but things like DOF and compression don't compare to the equivalent real focal length. That being said, the increased resolution makes the zoom much more usable.
Agreed, but to clarify: it's a 23mmm focal length lens and *stays* 23mm in focal length. What the digital crop does is change the equivalent field of view only.

It performs exactly like an xt5 or xh2. So it’s pretty solid. Shot a lot of lowlight here in Japan and the grain at iso 3200 is beautiful. I wouldn’t expect crazy clean at 6400 but you can clean it up in post cuz the lens so dang sharp
Which x mount prime lens would you recommend for versatility (photography and video)? I currently have the 18-55 2.8 kit zoom lens, but would like to upgrade to a prime. I was thinking maybe Fuji's 18mm 1.4 LM WR since I mostly shoot this focal length with my zoom, but the new Viltrox 28mm is even sharper, so most likely I will go with an 18mm and 27mm combo.
I’d like to see some proper tests of that lens. From what I can see in the Gordon Laing video the lens can’t resolve the sensor. There was very little difference in details between the x100v and x100vi. I don’t know if people realise the insane demands on lenses on high resolution apsc cameras. The smaller the sensor the higher the demands on the lens. A 40mp sensor on apsc would be similar to a 100mp full frame. That means you need an absolutely insane crazy lens. The lens on the x100vi isn’t in that league.

When is not 4K HQ it’s either pixel bin or line skip (better rolling shutter performance) when it’s 6k or 4K HQ (over sampled) it’s way sharper but also worse rolling shutter. Same as xt5

They should be about the same. Obviously if you beat on either camera they will get scratches and maybe black would show the silver metal underneath easier

Great 1st look. My biggest doubt (that you could look more closely in Japan): how is the battery life?
I had a X-S10, and the battery life was atrocious because of the IBIS consumption - draining 3 or 4 batteries in a day of hybrid use was not uncommmon (have the X-S20 now, with the bigger battery, problem completely solved).
The newer processor have better consumption, but don't know if it is enough to offset the IBIS one.
To be honest, the batteries are so small and portable, that I always have 5-6 in my bag for my xs10, no problem for me :)
@@Tharrel Carrying them is not the worst - is when you starting fliming suddenly when a situation appears, saw that the battery is half empty after less than 100 stills, and be constant afraid that it will die before hitting stop (happened 2 times with the X-S10)

Great video, appreciated, looks like fun. I just can't see why ( even @ 70mm ) it would be tried for portrait, its not made for that. well...... it's got eye focus but portraits look flat in it? Iv'e got a few X100 models, they are great for so much just not portrait. Just the focal length alone should be a give away. Thanks for sharing.

seeing the EXIF of your shots, you could get better bokeh staying under 1/500 sec activating the ND filter. I guess it is the same leaf shutter as previous models and wide open at f2 won't give time enough to take y "clean" picture and will give you a nervous bokeh.
EDIT : are you sure about the ND filter being electronic? owning few previous versions it seems to be physical since I hear each time I activate parts moving with the image making a switch
How does the bokeh get better with under 1/500 sec?
@@yamahaevo the leaf shutter opens from the center instead of top/down and if the speed is faster than 1/500 the mechanism won't be fast enough with an wide open aperture resulting specular highlights with weird shapes and less smoother background.

Cool intro but its a made in China Fuji, not a handcrafted in Germany Leica 😃 I have zero desire to spend anywhere near $1,600 on a fixed lens point and shoot when much cheaper options exist and given Fuji's terrible track record for production and support. But I do always enjoy your videos and the new film sim looks pretty good, nice work!
Yeah, but Leica costs 3 times as much, and is worse in most aspects… still a wonderful camera, would love to have it, but I’ll stay with Fuji

If you think everything Leica makes is made in Germany, then you should do a little bit of research ;)
Btw, on many occasions the "Made in Germany" inscription is there just because the very last few assembly steps are done in Germany, while the majority of the work was done elsewhere (and i´m not talking about the electronic and smaller components, we all know where those are sourced).

Good stuff man. I'm asking you, because you're one of the least brand-biased guys on YT doing these videos. Did you find any fit and finish concerns? With the VI's production moving to China, and the V having one of the sturdiest feeling builds I've ever had, I have some curiosity if the overall feel in hand diminished.
Would have rather seen a successor to the X70….just sayin

Yep. It’s not a digital zoom. It’s cropping in on the sensor. Which is why the mega pixels go down as it crops in. It gives you a 20mp raw file at 50mm. And 10mp raw file at 70mm
That’s very interesting. This topic isn’t covered by any X100VI videos I have seen so far. So I looked it up for the X100V where it only works in JPG mode. So Fuji must have changed it for the VI. This would be a game changer for me. Thanks.
Build quality vs. XT5?
I’ve owed the original X100, the T, the F and the V. My biggest gripes with the VI are the lack of creativity with the name & the 40mp sensor. In my opinion, this sensor completely takes away from what this camera was meant to be used for, which is daily snaps. You want 40mp AI looking images, go Sony full-frame
How’s the battery life?
Was the screen dim because you were wearing super dark sunglasses?
No I had the screen set at default. Had to turn it up
The bokeh effect is a bit weak on this camera, but thanks to the AI autofocus, the image quality is still quite solid, maybe even better than what is shown in the picture. So... it's still a good camera.
The bokeh looks terrible, but thats the X100 series for ya.

New cameras aren't supported on photo editing apps. Give it a few weeks. Happens to all new cameras.
Its a shame they increased the price drastically. The mark 2, 3 and 4 were all $1299. Mark V was $1399 and now the new one is $1599.

Let us all be honest. People are buying this because:
1. The looks: It looks like a Leica camera
2. It is more affordable than a latest Leica M camera
3. Film simulations (maybe yes but anyone who is good at color grading can say it the least)
4. It’s compact and easy to carry (but goes back also to #1)
5. Because it’s the hype from UA-camrs
You hit the head on the nail. But it’s also genuinely a really awesome performer too. Ive owned a couple x100 and I never even thought the x100v was impressive but I’m 100% buying the x100vi
on dpreview I downloaded images by x100vi the high res is shit with current lens. If you zoom in detail is poor. I might be comparing it too much to my Leica M11 and A7RV. But still it looks really

Surprised you weren’t harassed by the homeless rampant throughout.. i can make a photo book of pics i have of human shit in downtown Hamilton there. It’s really sad the deterioration of the downtown cores in many cities across Canada..
I’ve been wanting to make a photo channel for some time now… sadly i have been assaulted by Vagrants and Harassed by HBO / NETFLIX’S private security for public photos of a movie set. Every time I’m downtown with my gear my head is on full swivel.. just a few days ago dude was shot to death 1km up the road from here… nearly a OD daily just up from the alley the model was posed at. Just sucks ass to see so many down and out people in Canada and especially my city’s downtown core.
Just like my day in person day 1 R5 preorder Henrys dropped the ball and My day 1 in person may not be here next wave or wave after…. Very disappointing that in person pre orders are almost spat on by retailers for online sales. Let see maybe 2 weeks… maybe 6 months!

Did Fuji just send samples with the RAW ability disabled?
No. It’s pre production so adobe and other software won’t add support until the camera is for sale to the public
@@LeeZavitzquick trick that probably you know, if you want to look the RAWs in advance: use a EXIF editor to change the camera model to X-T5 (only caveat that you could not use the Reala Ace profile, but it will not be in Lightroom, anyway).
