HONEYANDBUTTER I can see that but I just find it a waste if you can finish the food finish the food. I don’t know it’s a big waste to me especially since other people in the world are starving and I’m lucky to even have the food. Eh everyone has certain rules I guess.
Junaid Mj, hi junaid: I am a youtube administrator. By making that comment, you have lost all the rights to watching ruby's videos. As I do not have any privileges, you just got to stop by yourself.
These are victorian etiquette dinner party rules, so approximately 1910's and earlier. I'm not British, but I'd like to think that these rules relaxed somewhat over the years as the world changed
If we’re talking about true Victorian dining etiquette, there are a couple extra rules: -Guests enter the dining room as couples - the conscientious hostess will have indicated to each gentleman beforehand which lady he was to escort (the seating arrangements would have been made to alternate men and women) -Each gentlemen helps seat the lady whom he escorts -The gentlemen speak to the ladies on their right first, then they switch to the ladies on their left -When the communal butter dish is passed around, you do NOT butter your bread directly from it - instead, you take a serving of butter with the master knife and put it onto the edge of your own bread plate - then you use that serving to butter your bread (piece by piece) with your own butter spreader - The hostess will indicate when the meal is over - everyone stands up (because all the gentlemen always stand up whenever a lady stands up), but the gentlemen sit back down after the ladies leave the room- yes - because the ladies go to the drawing room to converse about “trivial stuff” while the gentlemen stay behind in the dining room to smoke and discuss “serious topics” (the gentlemen rejoin the ladies in the drawing room after a while) -There are other small rules, but that’s enough for now.
While I go to sneeze,I've would already sneezed TEN times by the time I came to the door.😂😂 P.S.Omg guys thank you soo much I rarely got this many likes.
Ruby: “Excuse me friends, I need to sneeze.” Me: Realises I need to sneeze and have 0.1 of a second to grab my tissue and sneeze into it. No one has 30 seconds to pardon themselves and then walk out of the room to sneeze.
So basically, the same rules you should also follow today if you're at a slightly fancier restaurant or a slightly more formal/festive dinner lol? My parents were never really strict about me "behaving" or anything like that, but I still learned all of that as a child (with a few exceptions, I don't think anyone would frown at leaving cutlery on the plate these days, although it does make sense not to). Some of this I think is really just basic politeness and common sense imo ... (by the way, the drawing room sneeze was super cute as is your dress). Thanks for the video!
Ruby this video is great! I have a suggestion for the video ideas at the end of the yearr...what about a filming Studymas for December till Christmas?? You can show us your daily study life or any other fun things you do before Christmas and I am sure that everyone will really get motivated from your videos!!
These were so interesting! Especially the rule about the napkins, I didn't know that one! Brilliant video, I love the level of detail and research 💕💕💕💕
Hey you mentioned in your first Victorian Dinner Party video that you would link to the research you carried out - I'd love to read it :) but I don't see a link? xxxx
Never allow your wine waitress to unwrap the foil from a bottle of Tesco plonk with her teeth. This is especially important if the waitress in question happens to be one’s sister (see actual ‘dinner party’ video).
When you feel the need to sneeze, you should excuse yourself and leave the room, so you don't disturb the dinner. *leaves the room *loudest dad-sneeze of all time, even the neighbours dinner was disturbed
Most of these seem really normal to me since my mother taught them to us since we were young, she grew up poor and her mother didn't want them to feel any less than richer people so she taught them table manners. (it is also really nice to dine with well mannered people, it just makes everything seem so neat) Edit for addition
David Parkinson Yeah same. I guess for some people it’s normal but it’s not even normal when my family gets together and eats. We do the basic things like don’t talk with your mouth full but we’re allowed to have our elbows on the table and our parents always want us to finish everything on the plate. Idk I would just absolutely hate having to follow all these rules.
@@arandomuser9459 I'd feel verry uncomfortable eating without my elbows on the table I hate people eating with there mouth open its a basic thing but I have a problem to with putting you're knife and fork in the right hand you can do what you want lol we'd have to sit up straight to
David Parkinson I think we were told to sit up straight but at one point the adults in the family just stopped trying. The only thing they make us do (and I understand why) is to not eat with your mouth full. Then again my family is probably one of the least strict/formal families ever so nobody would care enough to follow these rules. Main rule we have is no devices on the table and that’s only really when we eat with our extended family.
I’m from America and have never seen anything like this. Yes some of those rules are expected to be followed here but the crazy ones like leave food on the plate (sounds to wasteful in my opinion) and the thing with the bread are unheard of. We don’t even have to keep our elbows off the table. So I guess it’s ether different here in America or different in my family. We aren’t a strict family at all so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was just my family.
@@arandomuser9459 no shade but from what ive seen with visiting america as well as youtube and films a lot of americans basically have no table manners. i watched a video of some americans going to an etiquette class and they were so shocked at basic things like not holding a fork like a shovel haha

Apparently my grandma has been teaching me Victorian etiquette rules this whole time...
“Always leave something on the plate” and that’s the first time I’ve ever heard that. Probably would be the hardest rule for me to follow.
I've heard it many times but I never knew what it means

That is why I noticed on the first vid that the there was a piece of bread that was teared, I was curious who ate the bread already hahahah

That was the most British sneeze I’ve heard
That's the most sophisticated sneeze I have seen in my life!!
Who would have thought every single dinner with my parents is a Victorian dinner party
I love her mindset. And her attitude she matured more than other teens

I learned a lot of interesting facts in this video! I am going to go into school tomorrow telling my teacher and friends all about this! :p
Most of these just sound like classic french rules haha !
If I ever got invited to your house, out of respect, I'd vigorously wash every surface area of your floor that my feet have touched
