Magnolia was his best shot imho, and I remember everyone thought he'd get it for sure, and he got his Golden Globe that year. Idk why he was snubbed in the end. Michael Caine in Cider House Rules got it and it's not even that memorable of a role, Caine was just kinda there. But I guess there were a lot of old farts in the Academy who wanted to give it to Caine no matter what.
I am able to separate the personnal life from the work. He has some views people don't share, maybe arrogant in real life, but as an actor, producing, stunt man, he is the best and he is a legend. And I collect all his movies :)
