Great video! You could trim the rootball and replant it, new leaf shoots will likely come out of the stumps. I did it once and it put out mature, holed and fenestrated leaves straight away. Good luck in your new home, I'd bet that you purposely bought a place with good natural light in mind.

Since you still have good roots, I’ve found out that you can grow a plant back from a situation like what you’re holding at the end of the video. I had a philodendron I had to drastically cut back due to some kind of sickness with the leaves, but I remembered what you said “they always grow back” my philodendron is now putting out baby leaves

I just got a cutting from a leggy, thin, but tall Monstera variegata with one leaf that has no fenestration. I hope to let it grow stronger and better than before-maybe at the same time as you. :D
I did rhis with a Rubber Plant a few years ago..only i just stuck the pot outside to throw in the garden but noticed sprouts coming out. She's 7 ft tall now and lives outside ss long as its not too cold. The hard part is finding a place to put the giant pot in the house in the winter months. 😂 Good luck with your 20 monsters Mr Sheffield and thanks for the video..i have one that looks pretty sad too because its really root bound.

I did the same thing to my monstera, although it was not as glorious as yours. It was in an 8 inch plastic pot. I had to cut the pot to release the plant. When I finally got it out, there was very little soil. It was all perlite and roots. Yikes! Fortunately, mother and babies are fine. Thanks for a great video. Good luck with your move.
I'm actually surprised how few roots there were for such a large monstera. Well, surprised on the fine roots. I would think there would have been more thick roots. Also...I am in love with that orange planter! I think you also have some smaller ones and they just catch my attention every time. I must find some. ❤

We would greatly appreciate an in-depth video describing plants that are excellent in moderate to very poor lighting (North/Northwest facing windows only & Nova Scotia climate) conditions that are safe for cats and dogs. There is a great benefit to having plants in our household for mental health and physical health over and above the general improvement of design aesthetics & we hope to be able to rebuild our indoor oasis well maintaining safety for our fur babies. "Left him as he was", in a bigger pot; near morning sun window. To make repotting easier, I use plastic bags. I fold them, poke them with a needle, put clay marbles in one then, soil and the plant in another one.
Wow it takes great courage to cut down such a big monster(a)! If it were someone else I would screaming 😱, but we believe in you Mr. Sheffield, good luck growing multiple monsteras. 🌿🌱🌿🌱 It’s always after chopping we realise that there is no need for a big chop.😅
I did that to my Monsters Alba, because it had bugs, and all leaves where damaged. I have now 11 Monsteras, ok, still waiting for four to push a new leave.

My monstera has gone through 2 rounds of thrips. All the leaves have terrible brown insect damage, even the top cut. The last leaf, and biggest (12 fenestrations and 12 perforations) is so insect damaged! I think I have to let it go forever. I don’t think I can even root any of it. I keep putting it off. But seeing you do it, I’m ready. I’m just so sad that none of it can be saved😢
): there is no plant left and I have found that not ALL plants that are chopped grow back I would never do that to my lovely plants even if I was moving ...its taken too long to get them to the point of being large and I prefer very large plants I helped a friend move a 6 foot monstera and we used a Christmas tree bag It worked out great!
I must say nowadays I prefer moss over water for most props, especially for monstera (albo), but I'm also currently propagating some Tomato cuttings in Moss since they turn to mush within 24 hours in water (for me at least). That experience might have influenced my opinions xD

Im about to cut off some leaves on my Monstera. He's got a lot of babies growing on the bottom, but the bigger leaves block their sun . I feel like the plant will benefit from the trim. Hope i'm not making a mistake
imho the root system is a bit underdeveloped for such a large plant (or group of plants). I expected it to be root bound but it still had quite a bit of volume to fill.

Question about the moisture metre - when I put mine in a pot to take a reading, the needle always jumps straight up to the moist/wet end of the scale, before slowing dropping back down and settling somewhere nearer the dry end. I'm just wondering if yours does the same, and if so, at what point consider it to be truly indicative of what's going on in the soil? I'm guessing I should be looking at it once it's had a moment to settle, rather than paying attention to that first instant reading?

I have been trying my hand at rooting in perlite. The Hoyas seem to do well in perlite. I see that propagation can be addictive. 😊😊

@@SheffieldMadePlants no I don't believe there's springtails I have some in the soil of one Bonsai I have and when I bought a bag of cactus mix it had some in it I can't seem to find anyone on UA-cam that knows what these are.
