The gameplay might be nice but your cinematic presentation makes these videos special for me. The intro, little scenes every now and then to provide a nice atmosphere and your storytelling is so amazing. Thanks a lot for the videos and I hope you are very successful :)
It's definitely the presentation style and story building around the scenarios that makes it as enjoyable as they are. Wolfpack can turn a seemingly random mission where you control X fleet to hunt Y targets in Z location with little to no basis or context into an interesting and engaging plausible scenario at sea during a Cold War gone hot. In my opinion creativity can go a long way to making seemingly mundane or uninteresting things feel really entertaining or fun
THIS. My fiancé who has zero interest in these games gets engrossed in every video I put on by Wolfpack. He's a vital part of our nightly routine now haha
I was on the USS Estocin as a JROTC cadet in 1982, for a week-long ASW training evolution with the then-new LAMPS helos. That week on a ship solidified my decision to join the Army.
@thejohnbeck all respect to sailors, but I wasn't cut out for being cooped up in tight quarters with limited access to outdoors for days or weeks on end. No privacy, no way to get away from the daily grind. Great meals though.
And here I was thinking what am to do for the next ~half hour, and Wolfpack drops this video like he drops torpedoes from the air against submarines. Keep up the great content man!
Great stuff Wolfpack (hint: If a warship has two stacks, it has 2 screw s). I was one of the last persons to ever ride the Standley out to sea as we took her away from the dock in San Diego (1994) as it was towed up to Long Beach for selling/scrapping or to ever what else her fate would be. On board I found and still have one of her ship's plaques that was laying around in the helo-hanger. Thanks for the vids, these old cans are right up my alley, I just love your detail and very much appreciate your effort. Mike
She was taken up to San Francisco and was at the Suisan Bay Mothball fleet for several years before scrapping. Watch the movie Down Periscope. You can see the Ships of the Belknap and Leahy class (along with my USS Halsey) in the background when Commander Dodge first visits the "Stingray"
@@Cg23sailor We took 3 ships out that day to Long Beach, 2 Leahy class, the Standley out of those 3, is the only one I remember the name of, they must have moved to Suisan later. I don't remember who the 3rd ship was. I pay attention to other ships in movies, and I saw that too in Down Periscope. Seems like you love these gray Ladies just as much as I do. Cheers, Mike
I know it's a game, but I imagine this is an example of why helicopters are invaluable for modern ASW. Surface ships really are just big juicy targets without them.
Man I love wolfpacks videos on every game, but especially sea power. The soundtrack, voice and presentation makes every scenario seem so tense, and not just like your watching gameplay, but like actual storytelling
Another awesome video Wolfpack! The only thing I wish the Devs could do is make the Sonobuoys a different shade of blue so its easier to differentiate between the Buoys and the actual Ships in your fleet.
Wolfpack, I cannot wait for more Sea Power vids from you. This ASW stuff is right up your alley and your presentation makes it special and engaging. Look forward to many future videos!
@@ryanwalterson737 makes me wonder what would happen if a damaged sub blew ballast and surfaced. Would the surface fleet blow it to kingdom come or try to offer an opportunity to surrender?
@@ryanwalterson737 they kinda try to surface and abandon ship but wolfpack for some reason keeps pumping torps even against emergency surfacing boats :D
Since this is a mission, the game would most likely only accept the ships blowen up. But for the game makers, i am sure they can change it some, so surrender is accepted as a goal of the mission.
Wolfpack makes the best content for these naval warfare games. Very atmospheric & entertaining. We can all see the time & dedication he puts into making these videos. I hope the devs put a date activated unit/weapon filter into the scenario builder that we can toggle on/off. I think we’ll all crash the internet when this releases!
My son served aboard the USS Lake Erie, a Ticonderoga class guided middle cruiser. I’d love to see someone create a Pacific theater scenario and see it in action.
The damage model in the game looks decent for a game of this size and complexity. I had a feeling that the third torpedo may not sink the sub since it probably hit an already-flooded compartment. Thanks again for your video, can't wait to see you play the dynamic campaign when it comes out!
Finally a good look at how the Seasprite stowes its landing gear in flight. It is cool that sometimes critically damanged submarine could try to surface and surrender rather than always having to sink them.
It's cool to think what would happen after the scenario too imho. Would that second Charlie be salvaged and taken to a friendly port for examination? I think it would be interesting to watch a follow-up custom mission where the sub is being taken to, say, Holy Loch, and now playing as the Soviets it's your job to ensure that the enemy does not learn your military secrets.
Love your videos! Quick question for you - are you able to drop sonobuoys in a pre-set pattern, or do you create the pattern a buoy at a time? It looks like maybe pre-set?
Found the answer myself playing today, select your helo then left click on engage with sonar Buoy , then go to the mini map and press alt+right click where you want to drop the buoy pattern, for a 2rd pattern type you press ctrl+right click, so much easier than 1 by 1
I think search and rescue would be a really cool addition to sea power. But esp seeing the sub surface after being struck, I would love to see a mechanic for accepting surrenders and/or rescuing the crew
I can’t wait to see some missions with longevity. Not that the shorts are bad, but I want to be challenged. Risks added. Not the sub is somewhere ahead of you find and eliminate. But unknown threats idle where maybe not eliminate maybe keep tabs on. Or area denials. Something where logistics gets used. Do I send all my helps out now knowing they’ll need to refuel and rearm/supply or do I stagger. How do I lay the soon Huey’s out without just dropping cause I need to desperately find said sub. I can’t send up 10 ships of aircraft cause I might need to hold some back. I wanna see some tactics not just send it all.
That'll probably be more of a thing when the dynamic campaign releases for it next year, I imagine it'll be over a significantly longer amount of time where you'll have to monitor stores and logistics. These single player missions are probably hard to craft to replicate that amount of depth.
One thing to note is that there is no Gearing Class destroyer named the USS Tucker. There is a Henry W. Tucker, which the game likely means, but the H.W Tucker was sold to the Brazilian Navy in 1973. Before the Date of this 1981-1983 scenario, between the commissioning of the Estocin and the Decommissioning of the Last Gearing.
Great to see these modern warships in games. Before this is had to rely on Wargame Red Dragon if i want to use this kind of ships and they didnt have subs involved.
I think it's becoming clear that Triassic may need to work a bit more on enemy submarine AI. They're borderline suicidal, don't use their strengths and their torpedo volleys are pathetically easy to manage.
What would be cool to see is the enforcement of restricted air space, say a radar contact (civ) has breached alt and restricted zone of a carrier group, send out warnings before sending a intercept to guide and move them away or self defense aftion and just missile it.
Do you think the newer main guns that eject casings from the front, (arleigh burke, or toconderoga main guns) will be modelled? I've seen games model ejection with autoloaders on land vehicles like that artillery stryker vehicle, but i haven't seen a modern or cold war ship game model case ejection for the main cannon yet, it would be neat if the developers would want to.
Curious what kind of development changes you've seen throughout this "early access?" What are their development goals? What are they working on enhancing? Any info of that nature to share?
For me it is insta buy, twice probably as GoG release hasn't been announced yet. But one thing I have noticed here and in different videos - the inertia of the ships is ridiculous. At 5:11 Estoncin slowed down from 17 kts to 6 kts in just 6 seconds! At 5:50 Tucker slowed down from 26kts to 7 kts in 10 seconds. Something is not right.
