Back in 1986 i bought my 1st car which was a 74 Monte Carlo. I sure wish it was a 73 Olds 442 like this one. Those are still a kool l@@king car to this day. Today I own a 1968 SS Nova and I've owned a lot of GM muscle cars from the 60's but I still like to see those cars from the 70's cause thats what I grew up with.
Thats a really sweet looking car with the big meaty tires and Cragar wheels. I think the 73 Olds 442 was better looking than the 73 Chevelle SS, GTO, or Buick Gran Sport. They weren't as fast as the pre 1971 442's but the 455 still made I think 270 net horsepower...which probably translates to 300-325 gross horsepower...still a pretty decent amount of power and you could easily modify them to go even faster by removing the smog equipment and installing headers and a less restrictive exhaust. I believe 73 was the last year you could get a 4 speed with the 455 too. You couldn't get a 455-4 speed GTO in 73. You had to settle for the 400 if you wanted to row your own gears. The 442 was the coolest of all the first year Colonnade performance models. I wouldve bought either the 455-4 speed Olds 442 or the Buick GS 455 Stage 1 with a 4 speed...likely the 442 because they were less $$$ than a GS and also better looking in my opinion. I believe the 73 Chevelle SS 454 was only rated at 235 net horsepower. Chevy was more focused on performance in the Corvette and Z28 Camaro by then like Pontiac had shifted it's focus toward the Trans Am by then. If I was buying any new GM product other than an SD455 Firebird Formula in 1973 it would've been an Oldsmobile 442 with the 455-4 speed combo
Well good thing the hood didn’t fly up on the test drive I would’ve lost my mind have her come back in the hoods are bent up and put hinges are all fucked
I wasn’t criticizing your car at all but it’s good to know I was on to something. I loved the video btw. It was scenes like this that I always looked out for as a pre teen in the early 90s. I loved driving past old service stations on my bike or in my parents car looking for these old fast looking cars that I had no idea what they were. I think it’s what really turned me into a gear head bc I was so unimpressed with Taurus’s and Chevy caprices but then I saw a 70 chevelle and was like wtf is that!?! 442s are my favorite btw. I got a 72 gto now but eventually I hope to sell it and get my olds.
Love the 73 model; first of that body style change and the "S" or 442 version was the best but man, that thing has a fried torque converter. That front end should lift and the car bolt forward with that kind of revving. Classic characteristic of a worn out torque converter...
Doug Blake New it was one of them and not a worn out torque converter, it is to nice of a car for a "Classic characteristic" of someone who know's just enough to get by discussing classic cars.
The '73 Cutlass is gorgeous.
I ordered a 73 new in the blue with white vinyl top and white interior. Oh how I miss that car
What a great looking car...455's forever.
The freaking hood is up!!! You couldn’t find someone with a brain to drive the car?!! Shame because that is one mean looking machine

I can't begin to tell you how much anxiety I got seeing it being driven off with the good popped.
I LOVED my '77 & 73!!!

The 1973 442 was down on power compared to the 1972 because the 308* and 328* cams that the 1972 had were gone by 1973.
Well good thing the hood didn’t fly up on the test drive I would’ve lost my mind have her come back in the hoods are bent up and put hinges are all fucked
Your hood is popped.
Love it I had 3. 73 cutlass as a teen like a day got rid of them

Thanks! My fleet, also not in video but in back I also had my 85 442 & 81 Cutlass Brougham there.
Damn!! She rides the clutch enough doesn't she?!?!?! But the car is incredible!!!
It has cragers rims on
Where's a good site to find/order parts for these? My brother has one. This brings back lots of memories. Beautiful car!!!
J. Gonzalez not many places, depending on what your needing try Fusick, or The Parts Place Inc
Doug Blake thanks, I'll have to check them out. Already "liked" and "subscribed." 👍
Makes a ton of noise. But. Seems to be pulling an anchor
Sounds like you get a big cam and some highway gears here and or a big cam, stock low compression, and a big cam.
correct Dan, healthy cam (457hp, 523tq), 3500 stall converter with the stock 3.23 gears at the time.

@@danhoyland142 no problem. I didn’t take it as a knock. Thanks for enjoying it!
Split bumper would expose the grill and make these cars look even better I often wondered why the factory didnt do it
Probably safety regulations mandated by the government
MISS MY 1973 CUTLASS S 455 4 SPEED WISH I KEPT IT
Is that red and white one a 77?
If you wanted something that was musclebound in these years...this was it!
Bad Ass, I'll take it!

She's having a lot of trouble driving it, was it a stick?
455 torker?
Sweet!
Did that model have the swivel seat?

I believe that it has a 2500 stall speed converter.
That would explain it, wouldn't it. A great looking car for sure.
I thought the same.
mark baxter
Actually 3500 stall
