- In this DCS World tutorial, I demonstrate the simple startup and taxi, with a sketchy take-off of the Bf-109K. This tutorial is designed to get you up and about in the Bf-109K, an icon from WW2.

These Warbird look just even more amazing with the flames at the engine and the new clouds. 2.7 really was a gamechanger for DCS.
Agreed, they’re pretty much all I’ve flown in since 2.7 came out.
@@TacticalPascale It was about time for ED to give those old ladys a bit of love. ;-) But god did they do a great job.
That final flyby in video was the real cherry on top! :)
Thanks mate, I followed your instructions to the letter, and got her off of the ground. Now it's just the whole "getting back on the ground" thing.
Starting with this beauty of a wartbird today, so the video came just in time.
The gamechanger for me with regard to take off is to keep the toe brakes on, set the engine to 1.35 and release the brakes once the engine has settled. This technique means you are not fighting changing torque as you roll down the runway. Makes the take off a lot easier :)
I shall have to give that a try
I have always wanted this module. With the current lunar sale I got it. I am used to flying the big ol' heavy jug. This plane is so light, fast and very twitchy on the stick. A whole new experience for me. The lack of aileron trim is a bit odd, but the lack of managing the engine/prop RPM is kind of nice. And yes, the -109 is by far the hardest to take off smoothly in. But you pulled it off like a boss. If you go above 1.3 pressure the torque becomes unmanageable. I can't stress to new pilots of the -109 to use as little power as needed to takeoff. And keep the stick to the right!
If you trim all the way nose down the tail will come up by itself and lift-off when it's ready.
You don't need to compensate for the gyro horribleness that way and the roll is barely noticeable. More right rudder, less stick. Brakes until ~100kmph then rudder as it does the rest for you. Don't really need to wrestle it so much. Oh and as others have said that governor switch or you won't have an engine 10 seconds after the vid ends.
I'm not sure if it's pre-primed or if that doesn't do anything, it starts just the same without.
I find it much easier than the Spit on take-off. Arguably harder to land though, it seems to come in quite hot, but seems happier landing 2 point.
I wasn't keen on the idea of a late war 109. The flare gun makes it all worth it. I'm all about the flare gun. :D
The most Beautiful Warbird in my Eyes, and noone can change my View on that. Love the Intro :D
On the Flare Pistol: What i like to do on Start is to change the flare to get to the Circuit Brakers but i like to keep it, idk its fun to use sometimes :D
One thing I noticed you did not do: Enable the Governour Automation, do you do it Manual Only? (Its the little Black switch under the Throttle Unit, as far as I know it should be to the rear to enable auto prop pitch)
I did, but it’s bound to a switch on my hotas and I neglected to mention it in the video.....doh!
Beautiful intro!
Glad you like it!
Awesome! Keep them coming!
More to come!
I love the intro
Glad you enjoyed it…but looking at the analytics…most don’t 🤣🤣
When I saw start up in the title✅💪
If you play MP and your plane isnt equipped with MW50 (look at the roster if MF50 is indicated) then you need to push the fuel selector switch down (positioned just near the wheel lock handle) to select teh fuel only (upper position is for MW50). Also it is advised to set the engine pitch to auto mode (very small switch just below the throttle lever).
That cannon though
Hi. I think you used to much gas in the beginning to start up, just a little is fine.
Most important thing. ONLY use the brakes when taking off, nothing else. It makes things 10 times easier.
just got the 109 thank you so much! Are you planning to make more tutorials of the 109 or just the startup?
More on all the DCS Warbirds......except the I-16
@@TacticalPascale Nice, keep up the good work!
Thanks for this video! Very new to DCS. How do you manage “moving your head” sideways, forward, zoom, etc. so fluently? Thanks for any feedback!
I use TrackIR
Have you heard about a bug with the fuel pumps? Apparently if you put P1 plus P2 full fwd it just won’t crank… Been driving myself crazy trying to figure it out
What was the opening song?
Hey mate, are you running any visual mods for this one? The inside of that model looks unreal compared to mine.
Thanks
Nothing at all
Wow! How did you get the view in the b-17?
Adjust the F4 view
There are a few points I would like to comment, first, even if not so critical, there is no need to enable all the circuit breakers, but anyways is up to each one, and last, its ok keep the governour automation off during taxi, but if you are not going to manual control the prop pitch, will be rather important to enable it later on.
Yeh I did wonder. Usually after about ten seconds without the governor and no RPM management the prop stops. Was it oversight or is it managed?
It’s bound on my HOTAS, I neglected to mention it in the video.
@@mell12345 With auto prop off, after take off when airplane gains speed, engine rpm will go up until, engine blows up. This is main limitation of fixed pitch prop at certain speed you need to reduce power to prevent over speeding the engine. Constant speed prop which is engaged when auto prop switch is ON then engine rpm governor will increase propeller pitch and maintain set engine rpm within regulating limits.
Amazing. How do you get the cockpit view on the Fortress ?
By moving the external camera into it
@@TacticalPascale So im lookin at a B-17 flying at 25.000 feet, doing 300mph. How do i move it inside?
Press f2,then alt f2 and rotate away
@@TacticalPascale Roger that, ill try it. Thank you.
Did you switch to manual prop before taxi/take off indicating 11:30? The engine was turning 3000 rpm at the end!
Probably not 😂
you know you did!@@TacticalPascale
@@TacticalPascale You had manual prop mode at take off, and proper way of doing it, is to set to 12 o'clock before take off.
How did you get inside the B-17?
Moving the external cameras
video start at 2:48
Excuse me if I ask, scottish accent?
It is
@@TacticalPascale I love it
I love the canopy frame rate is like 2 lol
Yeah, I feel like they could have added maybe 50% more frames lol. Its just a simple hinge, not hard to animate.
