love your videos nat. Just recently got serious into fishing your videos have been very informational while also not being 40 minutes long! keep up the great work man
Your videos are amazing. I hadn't gone fishing since i was a kid and you've been such a great help. The only bad part is that i have to wait for you to make videos about certain topics. My uncle gave me a whole binder of old soft plastics and i have no idea what to do. Im so glad you made this video. Keep up the good work, one day, you'll be remembered for these videos.
Thanks - I'm glad my videos have been helpful to you. I work full-time so I can't commit to a regular posting schedule but I do what I can. When it's ready, it's ready.
Great video as are the rest of your series. The pace is really great and I am not thinking get on with it like I am with others. Thanks for producing. Regards, Wayne.
How-to videos on bait specific techniques are a frikken dime a dozen on youtube these days. And most of em just give you basic info that anyone with common sense can figure out their first time out. But this video is straight to the point, great information, and footage. And no fluff, filler, over-editing or other general trendy bullshit that virtually every other channel has these days. Instant subscribe. Thanks, Nat
Great explanations once again. I just got into fishing a year ago and started using swim baits this year and have been really successful with them. I love paddle tails
Paddletails are awesome, grubs are also really effective. I like to rig my grubs tail down on a jighead. Grubs are good if you want a more subtle vibration and movement from the tail. Hammered a 2 lb and 6 lb lmb the other day on a homemade underspin with a 4 inch black powerbait grub
Hey Nat, I've been binging your content recently, and I find your videos super useful to a beginner! Would you be able to make a video on cleaning gear and storing gear?
Thank you - I'm glad to hear that they have been useful to you! I'm working on several others but could probably work that topic into an upcoming video. I have a bunch of topics that I hope to get done by the end of summer.
Thanks for the suggestion. I do talk about that for each type of lure in my various lure-specific videos in the How Lures Work Underwater playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLcXAWxBLRzoJOC73i8r56wb8cKhgSJO8f.html Maybe I'll make a video specifically about that topic too though.
As far as the need for a fluorocarbon leader goes... That's all fine and well of you target fish with no teeth. Up here in Saskatchewan, Walleye and Pike require steel leaders. Period. I've actually lost whole setups because something bit the braid line above the 6 inch leader. 😳
I also use a steel leader when fishing in pike-infested waters but I know some guys who prefer to use heavy (like 80 lbs) fluoro leaders instead. Never tried it myself but it seems to work for them.
I fish a lot I enjoy using lures in pond's not once every caught anything on lures I have frogs and rosters tails and spinners bait nothing 😢 but fun 💯👍🎣🐟
@@macc12cj 14lb line - I'm guessing it's monofilament line? That's pretty thick/heavy to get a good casting distance with a rooster tail or even a frog. Sometimes if the fish are finicky, you need a longer cast so they can't see you. You may have better luck if you switch to 14/15lb braid instead since it has about 1/3 the diameter of monofilament, or you could try going to 6 or 8lb monofilament for much better casting.
It mostly comes down to how far you want to cast, how quickly you want your bait to sink, how big your bait or trailer is, and how deep the water is. If you just want to fish along the bottom, you can put on a heavy jig to get down there quickly and stay down there. Sometimes it's good to have a slow fall on your bait to keep it in front of suspended fish longer.
Stocked rainbows generally feed on insects and small minnows, so keep your lures small. 1-1.5" swimbaits and a 1/16 or 1/32oz jig would be best. Small inline spinners or micro-crankbaits are also very good for rainbows.
As a dad with 12 and 9 year old boys who are just getting into fishing, this channel has been amazing. These fishing and knot tying basics videos are so helpful for anyone who's looking to get into (or back into) fishing. Thanks so much for the great content!
Hey Nat. My dad and I got back into fishing with your videos. One issue I’ve had however is when I use either of these set ups I snag on everything. Even when Texas rigging. I usually can’t run anything other than a Texas rig or I snag on my first cast. Any advice?
There are cases where there is so much vegetation or other snags around that only a Texas rig or other weedless rig will work. And in some cases, a topwater lure or weedless frog may be the only thing that won't get snagged. If the cover is super thick, you're best off to fish around the edges of that cover or use topwater baits.
Absolutely nobody saw the 'shadow' in the water on the left of the kayak at 0:42?? It slowly rose up then carries on drifting to the left. Its either a giant sunfish or a big bass.
I've had good luck with the aliexpress braided line. Which brings the cost down quite a bit to about 1$/100m. Might be worth looking at. Great video as usual.
My only problem with soft plastic baits is that they get snagged in the vegetation like crazy, and when you let it sink it may get stuck on surface underneath the water if it has some sticks, rocks, and vegetation
@@FishingwithNat thanks but It’s hard to buy those here in the Philippines because tackle shops are very rare to find, so thats why we always try to improvise during those situations.
@@bamboo5939 Are you able to find extra wide gap (EWG) hooks? They are very common for bass fishing in the U.S. but maybe not common in other parts of the world. They are great for setting up weedless plastics.

You should make a video on hardbody jerk-baits.
Thanks for the suggestion. That would be a fun topic.
Hello sir, I am a beginner. Can you make a video on how to choose the right jighead weight?
It mostly comes down to how far you want to cast, how quickly you want your bait to sink, how big your bait or trailer is, and how deep the water is. If you just want to fish along the bottom, you can put on a heavy jig to get down there quickly and stay down there. What size jighead and swimbait combo do you recommend for stock rainbow trout?
Stocked rainbows generally feed on insects and small minnows, so keep your lures small. 1-1.5" swimbaits and a 1/16 or 1/32oz jig would be best. Small inline spinners or micro-crankbaits are also very good for rainbows.

My only problem with soft plastic baits is that they get snagged in the vegetation like crazy, and when you let it sink it may get stuck on surface underneath the water if it has some sticks, rocks, and vegetation
For those situations, a weedless plastic rig like a weedless jig, Texas rig, Carolina rig, or weedless Neko hook will help.
