Hey guys. Nice finds, as always 😊. The pink glass does not have uranium in it, but it is made with manganese. It shines a purpley /lime green color. Glass made with selenium shines a pinkish color. Glass that shines orange has cadmium in it. And the uranium/ Vaseline glass shines a bright green. Look up the glass color chart for manganese, uranium, etc.. alot of people mistake the manganese for uranium glass. Also people think that the red glass has gold in it to make it ruby red, which was true a couple hundred years ago, but today's red glass has other elements that make it red. Murano glass uses gold leaf in their glass sometimes. And glass that has been turned purple by the sun is a chemical reaction to the manganese and iron ions in it used to get crystal clear glass. Go figure 😊. Have a great day
And sadly even sellers advertise their items as uranium glass when it is actually manganese. But pink depression glass from Hazel Atlas, Anker Hockings, etc. that made uranium glass pieces sometimes used excess unused uranium oxide in their pink or blue colored glass. I have found one pink depression glass that does contain some uranium oxide in it. To make sure it is you need to have a geiger counter.
I loved seeing the train. Growing up here in Fredericton, we had them go by our house just across the road a couple times a day. I miss seeing them. Where the tracks were is now part of the Great Canadian Trail. Bev
That pink dish is hard to tell. It's pretty under the light no matter what. I've lived in a few places where the train tracks were close by. One time the train was stopped hooking and unhooking cars that took around 20 mins or more when our place was just over tracks.
There may be some uranium in the pink bowl. I see a light yellow greenish glow, which is primarily from manganese and a bit of uranium. The Fostoria American glass has the same glow and I use a black light to test it.
Another sale with great buys! The coffee set is in amazing condition for its age, and it’s complete! Great! And selling silver for $1 - just incredible! I think the depression glass bowl had twinkles of green in it, so it might have a little uranium in it! Super finds! Great video - looking forward to seeing the next episode!❤
I've got that oil lamp. The bracket is a cast bowl type that it sets into. Mine was my grandmother's from when she was first married or so she said. Lol
When we moved to California in 1961, our house (Mom still lives there) was 2 doors from the agricultural train that ran thru town. I could hear that train coming from 2 miles away, & even tho' I knew it wasn't gonna hit us, it took a few months to get over that feeling! On two occasions, we stuck a stick pin on the tracks to see what would happen, worrying we might derail the train (!). The pin was flat & the train stayed on the tracks! How many years went by that we never heard the train unless we were thinking about it!---If you folks haunt your local thrift stores, you might be able to find a wooden wall bracket for that hobnail lamp. (They look kinda like boot jacks.)
Great memories!!! It's funny how you don't even hear something after awhile once you've grown accustomed to it, even something as loud as a train!! My very first memories are of growing upo in small town Saskatchewan in a town called Pilot Butte and I remember putting some pennies, and maybe even some small pebbles! 😈😈 on the tracks and wondering the same thing (if the train would de-rail)> Got some cool smooth oval copper pieces out of it. 😂😂
I don't think your pink depression glass is has uranium oxide in it. I finally found a pink piece that has some in it (remember that it's only a small amount since it was simply to no waste the excess uranium oxide left from a green glass batch) and it still glows quite green on the edges, at the bottom, and where the glass is a bit thinker. Just to make sure I used my geiger counter that is pretty sensitive to alpha particle emission to confirm it was, and it wasn't manganese in it as it does glow light green. Still, nice piece!
@@BargainBarons I own 4 geiger counters that varies greatly in detection range and quality. A cheap made in China model, two Soeks, a 01M model and a Defender, and a Mazur Instrument PRM-9000 for alpha particle detection and very low emitting sources as it is highly sensitive. Overall the best one I carry around for thrifting, flea markets, garage and yard sales, and antique stores is the Soeks 01-M. Fantastic little piece of technology for the price.

Wasn't that woman nice, wrapping all the breakables up for you😊 The two of you seem to bring out the best in people & meet the nicest folks.

That lamp without a bracket -- plus the other 2 are all MODERN REPRODUCTIONS !!
Coffee and mug sets. Sask.Abilities Council workshop from the 60’s and 70’s
Yes I see green in the pink bowl. Love the coffee and cups set.
I see it, too. I do believe it's uranium glass.

I also thought so.
What a lovely couple. Love the coffee set.

I love that you show the items at the end in more detail!

The pink dish looked like it glowed under the uv light 👍🇦🇺
That coffee set was fab! I've never seen one designed like that.
Hey Rob&Karen 😊
Good finds, really like those lamps.
Take care of Yourselves

I always use those oil lamps when our power goes out. They work great and don’t need batteries!
Lucky to find sterling silver so often.
MAYBE a little manganese in the pink bowl - but you would have to have the dual setting uv light to check.
Yes there was green in the pink bowl
That lamp with the fancy shade is modern. I have 2 of them.
Love watching y'all's videos so awesome. 😊😊😊
What a cute, sweet couple. 😊
Awesome yard sale finds!! ❤
Karen you're so funny, I can almost guess when you're going to say "well it depends on how much it is," or "I don't see any prices, do you?"
Not uranium glass!! 😢
That was a cool stand mixer haha
I don't see any green glow, but it sure is pretty.
Great finds

Super interesting!!! Would love to know what Geiger counter you have!! I have looked at them but so far haven't bought one yet.

Looked to me like there was a little green in that piece.
Not UG glass...you need a better light.
Great finds! What type of UV light do you use?
don't know.. just U/V.
Guess not.
