So true, this method really works. This is how I learnt Spanish, by accident. I just didnt have the money for classes in Guatemala, and so I just listened to people everyday and learnt new phrases everyday. I then studied a little of the grammar myself when I had the 'chunks' and wanted to understand the conjugations. I learnt quickly in 6 months. Now fluent.
cabe mencionar que escuchar conversaciones entre los nativos ayuda mucho y parece la mejor manera para mejorar.gracias por estos consejos claramente, son los que necesitaba mucho.
Well, two things: 1. It's very difficult to find any comprehensible input until you've learned a little of the language. But it's sometimes not impossible. I started watching "Extra en español" more or less at the same time when I started a Spanish course, and had no problem with it - but a lot of fun! - because it's a telenovela for Spanish learners and you can always understand the scenes by watching the actors. Same with "Caminos". 2. Some cases, where I had used the few Spanish I've learned: I've spoken on an international conference and after my speech somebody from Latin America wanted to talk to me about the issue, but the translator said that she couldn't translate what he said! It was funny, because I understood him and translated to her! Not because my Spanish is so good, but because he understood everything I had said and also the things I didn't have mentioned and the translator didn't. Another case: We made an inquiry kiosk in the city (in Germany), and a Spanish speaker moved along: "No hablo alemán." Well, it would have been nice if I were able to explain the issue in Spanish! So, in my experience all the "tourist stuff" isn't necessary for me, but to be able to talk about very "advanced" issues is! But of course it's at least necessary to say "¡Hola!" before talking about climate change, revolution or a whatever your issues are. 🤔

A question for native speakers: How good is his Spanish? Like is it within 10% of a native speaker? As an intermediate learner it sounds pretty damn good to me
Very encouraging, and practical. It is making rethink some of my approach to learning Spanish. I think I have been putting too much emphasis on the grammer part first. But, true, that is not even how we learn our first language. We learn it naturally from hearing it spoken.
Something to consider when making videos for Spanish learners: be very careful with adding music to the video (or just don't use music at all) because it adds another layer of difficulty to understanding what's being said. I would have liked to watch this video to train my listening comprehension (I cover up the subtitles) but it's too difficult for je now with the music. The music and Lukas's speaking volume are about the same, and Lukas's voice pitch is in the same spectrum as the music, so it all blends together making it very difficult to comprehend. The content of the interview is very interesting to me, so I'll probably try to watch it again in a couple of months when my Spanish has improved. But yeah, please keep this in mind!
I enjoyed this video. I understood much of what was said, but my issue has been the speaking part (and writing). I will definitely take his suggestions and utilize them as well. I'm looking forward to the telenovela for learning Spanish. 😍
This man speaks very well. Congrats! But I'd like to correct something he says several times and it's wrong. - "Yo estudié "POR" dos años" (wrong) - "Estudié "DURANTE" dos meses" (right)
El fin último de aprender un idioma es poder comunicarse. Yo tengo el C1 de Inglés. Yo creo que es muy importante aprender una base sólida de gramática. A partir de ahí, se implementa con vocabulario y expresiones. Insisto; sin una buena base gramatical, no se domina un idioma.
This was a wonderful interview and overview. I personally would have found it even more enjoyable without the background music. It felt both distracting and tiring to pay attention "over" the music.
In Spanish, there’s a lot of exchange between the “o” and “ue” (e.g. “nueve”->”novena”, “poder”->”puedo”). It’s not that “pos” doesn’t exist. It is slang for “pues”.
There is one God, who created Heaven and Earth. He made us in His image and likeness. He made us to worship and we chose to rebel against God. As a result we are seperated from God but God didn’t leave us. Instead God sent His one and only Son, His Son is Jesus. He was born of a virgin and lived a life without sin, though He was tempted in every way as we are. He went on the cross and He willingly took our sins past, present and future. Jesus died in my place for my sins, paying my debt to God and purchasing my salvation. Jesus died but He rose on the third day victory over satan, sin, demons and hell. Jesus tells us to share this story of the Good News and there’s a God that lovingly pursues us. Jesus is coming to judge the living and the dead and those who trust in God will forever be with Him in His Kingdom and those who do not will suffer forever in, hell
Why do you call idioms chunks ? It's just confusing. ? Idiom is a perfectly adequate description. Chunk is silly. Even formulaic phrase would be better and more accurate.
In the book, "Becoming Fluent, How Cognitive Science can help Adults learn a Foreign Language" by Dr.s Richard Roberts and Roger Kreuz, they advocate learning in "Chunks" that is, sentences and word combinations and not individual words to help remember much more.
Inventing new words for the same old stuff doesn't make learning easier. It's an unnecessary vexation and affectation of mediocre academics and pedants trying to sound authoritative by using words that others are unfamiliar with. It's not genius. It's not cute. Save it for naming your newborn children.

having hard-coded subtitles in english ruins it

WOW! This is amazing, and love that he still looks up to his teachers here - like asking her how to say flash cards in Spanish

Because he's awesome!?😊
all is great, but go easier on the background music, por favor ;)
I noticed Mariana used, "Pues" several times, but Spanish speakers I've met here in Texas tend to say "Pos," is it the same?
No existe.

la musica es muy molesta
He goes for a lot of amor.
But he'd better be careful. He'll end up with none.
Solution: Be a good looking blonde white guy and have a lot of spanish speaking girlfriends
