    It's been 3 years since I got my braces off and I had 4 teeth extractions. I had a massive overbite and some crowding. I think it depends on who gets it. To be fair, I love my smile today. My cheekbones are more defined and my facial structure looks less boxy. I was afraid to get them out because I thought it would ruin how my face would look but I guess it worked out for me in the end. (READ UPDATE BELOW)
    UPDATE (2023): I forgot to add that even after my extraction I still have a slight overbite due to my mild misalignment in my jaw and sucking my thumb as a child. My ortho did not think jaw surgery was necessary and I agree because I love my smile. So I wouldnt have had the sunken-in look people keep talking about.

      SAHM Alj Hello i feel sorry for you that it makes you feel this way we have to think that thank god we know the truth now, but i know it is very scary and frustrating, after knowing this i cried many times and had panic attacks in the middle of the night.. but i think what you can do is to go to several good orthopedic surgeons who are specialized in facial bone and the maxilla make sure you get the best advice and knowledge, and go take your time and read about side effects of teeth extraction on google, one of them is depression and suicide thoughts which maybe not everyone will get i don't know but i had it, and it's good for you to see a Psychologist to get calm and to get over the anxiety and stress that you feel it's very important to deal as fast as you can with depression, i wish i knew it sooner like you did so that's very good for you to know it, i found these videos 7 years later and have depression for this long but i'm happy i finally know that something has gone wrong with my teeth, but feeling bad about it and giving bad energy to your body and teeth is not good and our negative thoughts does effect every part of our body we send it to so the best thing you can do is to try thinking positively and get help from good doctors and psychologists. even implants have side effects( every unnatural thing doing to the body has side effects) specially surgerys. and implants are very expensive and it takes a long procedure to get them. so get help and educate yourself about everything in this area know that you are not alone i hope you get well soon and just stay away from stress everything will be fine trust me know that so many people like you experienced it but know nothing about it. Go to specialists and keep calm you don't know maybe your case really needed this and if not no need to worry it can be fixed with a good opinion from a good doctor i hope everything goes right🙏🏼

    There's a place called Face Focused Orthodontics that's located in Agoura Hills, California, led by Dr. Hang. I believe they help reverse orthodontic treatment that was done with extractions. They reopen the extraction spaces and place implants on the teeth that were removed and afterwards, many patients feeling improvements in their health. I feel that this information is important because I've haven't heard of a dental office that does this procedure.

    Depends on how crowded the teeth are, what type of bad bite someone has, their soft tissue profile etc. Sometimes extractions are the best option. Any good dentist or orthodontist will be able to explain why it's better than your alternatives. Be suspicious when someone rules out an option entirely, in that case they're likely following a recipe and not as aware of other treatment modalities.

  • @6lue2crazy56
    @6lue2crazy56 2 роки тому +27

    I hope you can take some time reading my experience. I was supposed to get 4 premolar extracted today, instead I only got 2. The right lower and upper. They gave me 10 cartridges of local anesthesia which is more than necessary and keep in mind this is only one side of my teeth. It was so painful and stressfulI, the dentist didn’t want to give me more anesthesia after the already overwhelming amount. As she started, I couldn’t feel her pry my gums but as she clamped and pulled my teeth left and right was when the pain subtly make itself known. The thing is I have 3 roots that are longer, and thinner than normal. First 15 sways left and right didn’t feel that bad but that was no where near enough to pull my teeth. I’m not joking when I say this, It took maybe 100 sways left and right to pull out one tooth. It was a grueling experience, I felt very lightheaded from the pain, and pressure. Once the dentist knew it wouldn’t go out easily, I felt her frustration as she gripped harder with her metal pliers. She grabbed the tooth from a higher position, I felt it on a portion of my gums as she continuously squeezed and yanked left and right. Imagine the sharp roots ripping and poking the sensitive nerves and tissue inside that socket. In my head as I watched them fumble with my mouth how much they don’t care whether the tooth come out in one piece or not. There is no technique with the pliers I thought, something so simple but oh so painful, If only they knew what I was feeling in the heat of that moment. In the end they recommended me to a specialist because they are nervous of pulling the last 2 pre-molars. I could tell something was off with them as the general dentist spoke she stuttered and uttered her sentences. Perhaps she ruptured more tissue than good I thought or maybe she should’ve done a thorough inspection of x-ray before pulling my teeth. Now I’m laying in bed as I write this. Why do we have to put ourselves through this unnecessary drama and trauma to look a certain way. I think if I told my ortho I won’t do business with them if they want my pre-molars pulled they would’ve agreed. All in all dentists,ortho are business people who want money. Don’t be fooled by “We just want best for you” They recommend you to other known oral practitioners who don’t give a damn just as much as they for reputation or to close a relationship. I want to share this message as a chance to give others I wish someone gave me to doubt and rethink your decision before the day come. You won’t know whether it was worth it or not until after the whole ordeal. You must know whats best for you.

    ok, look. i have damon braces, and i had to get 4 teeth extracted. and honest to god, nothing bad happened. in fact, i love how the procedure changed my face. because of it, my jawline is much more defined and my face is slimmer. my face isn’t sunken in or anything - it’s only very minor differences that enhance my face lmao. don’t be worried, your orthodontist has been studying for years and if they recommend having teeth extracted, listen to them as they know what they’re doing.

      Don’t extract, EXPAND the reason anyone ‘needs’ teeth extracting is because the jaw is under-developed.

I can choose not to do extractions, but the result will make my mouth move forward. The second did a quick vision check of my teeth. He told my teeth was crowding but no need extraction. Both of them told me to do braces for 2 years. I am so confused about their different advices. I am gonna try to see the third orthodontist and see what he will say. Thank you for your sharing. I want to also get my moneys worth of this ortho treatment; would you say that in most situations regarding a fairly big overbite, extraction of these teeth is necessary for an improved smile? I’d appreciate your feedback.

    26M here, I've extracted my 4 premolars when I was around 13-14 to put on braces. Now my teeth are straigth. But I feel like my life took a downward spiral somewhere around my teenage years and I couldn't explain why or when exactly. In my teenage years I disliked my face as I thought that it was not growing like it was supposed to be. I had a great singing voice that became a lot worse for a reason that I couldn't pin point. I was already a shy kid, but I became even more shy. Around high school I developed chronic nose congestion. I thought that I was doing something wrong or that there was something wrong with me. Because of all these things and a bunch more that I can't cover here I became a low self-worth/confidence adult. For my adult years, I tried so hard trying to fix what I thought was wrong with me. Now I'm better, I have more knowledge and I can deal with my created insecurities in a better way. I like my face better now, as I should, if you take into account how much emphasis I've put on my health these past years (working out, eating right). But I still think it's not what my face would/should look like had I not extracted my teeth. My voice never reached the pre extraction era. For context, now I just have a good singing voice, meaning I'm on pitch, but it's nowhere near the innate ability/ease I had to manipulate it in a way that could wow some people. All in all, I wish I've never had the extractions, but I can't travel back in time. I don't know if I have sleep apnea although I do know I used to snore in my teens ( now I think I snore less). Sometimes I think if I didn't have them, I would grow up as a much more normal kid, which would alter most of my experiences, which would make me a completely different person today.

    used to have an open bite (5mm) and most orthodontists had suggested extractions since I couldn't afford surgery. So I opted for a camouflage technique instead, osseous genioplasty to fix my protruding chin, 4 premolar extractions (wisdom teeth had already been extracted), lingual braces with tads for 2 years. I now have wire attachments behind my front teeth and wear a retainer for 12 hours a day and a tongue crib to better help me position my tongue. It has been worth it.

    I really hate my teeth man. I got 4 of my premolars taken several years ago when I was a younger teen. Obviously I didn’t think about it at the time and I just did whatever the dentist told my parents to do. Now, I honestly regret ever having them taken off. I don’t take the taking of any natural body part off lightly, especially is there are alternatives... Now, I can see the negatives of this. I now have a super ugly smile, I have a big smile gap on each side of my mouth (like a small smile of that makes sense), and I feel as if it’s made my face look more sunken and weak and that these extractions took away my beautiful facial features and made my facial features look less defined. I’m furious now I wish there was a way to get those teeth back or somehow make it so i can make room again and put in some teeth there.. I would do anything to have 4 teeth back.. real teeth, artificial teeth, implants anything honestly.. man I would accept rocks implanted in my teeth rather than have my teeth the way it is right now. or at least I wish there was somehow a solution.. guys if you are reading this and your dentist/orthodontist or whatever tells you to get teeth extractions do *NOT* go through with it if there are alternatives, which there most likely are.. Those teeth are there for a reason, if not your body would’ve never had them in the first place.. I’d rather have my teeth crooked than have 4 teeth extracted honestly.. I also am very convinced that it gave me the speaking problems I have right now.. it’s not that big of a problem but I find it hard to pronounce certain sentences, like I feel like it gave me a speech impediment or something... guys someone please help I’ve been so gloomy lately because of this..

      Going by what you said, if there is overcrowding the teeth will straighten out and fill those gaps without losing your projection.
      If you don't get those teeth removed there will not be enough space and you will end up with straight but flared (sloping) teeth. You will then hate them and get extractions anyway adding another 12/18 of treatment.
      Having spent a while reading as much as I can on this my conclusion is that this is down to a general fear of tooth extraction as there is an element of crossing the Rubicon about it. I'm getting my upper pre molars out in 4 days to sort out my severe overjet 9.5mm. My upper lip is puffed right out. My consultants decided against jaw surgery and opted for upper extraction and possible genioplasty to create balance instead.

    Hello Dr. O El-Hillal from E&S Orthodontics!! Really liked the video, thanks for sharing!! I am a 21 year old male considering braces. What are your thoughts on wisdom teeth only extractions? Do the consequences with having teeth pulled out that you talk in the video such as thinning of lips, profile flattening out, etc. apply to wisdom teeth only extractions? Does wisdom teeth only extractions to a 21 year old cause any change in jaw, profile, aesthetics, or anything regarding facial appearance in the short or long term? And lastly, are they really necessary (wisdom teeth extractions)? Will extracting them 6 months before getting my braces affect the outcome (versus doing it after braces)?
    Looking forward for your answer, thanks!!

      Hey. The reason why we need extractions in some cases is simply space. We may need space for correction of irregular teeth or if the teeth are placed too far in front, we need space to bring them back in. Simply put, when an orthodontist suggests removal of teeth, he needs space to correct some problem.

    • @forextrading4u
      @forextrading4u 4 роки тому +1

      @Shanalotte we do expand palate in cases where the palate is narrow and patient is very young. But if palate width is already normal and we need space, expanding further will result in failure of treatment due to several reasons.

    • @forextrading4u
      @forextrading4u 4 роки тому +2

      @Shanalotte Its not as straightforward like that. Extractions does not mean all patients get a hollow look if they go ahead with extractions. A lot of it comes down to space requirements and management. For eg: you need 14 mm space for correction of crooked teeth and you get that 14mm space by extraction of 2 teeth, Inthis case your teeth will get aligned without any hollowing of the smile. But, if you need 9mm of space and you remove 2 teeth, you have extra 5mm of space. To get rid of this space, your teeth will need to move back and narrow a bit. Im putting this in simple terms. But, you can see how extractions does not equal bad results in all cases.

I'd have needed a spacer or insert then, but spacers are uncomfortable, and inserts are expensive. I also learned that a good orthodontist aims to achieve a profile you will like, they explain you the possible appearance changes you will experience, in your mouth (theet, smile, lips) and your face in general, including the profile. If they don't do that, you better look for another orthodontist. And the most important thing, a good orthodontist will care not only for appearance but for functionality :)

    Amazing points! My question is would the crowded teeth stretch the bone and make your lip look forward or sticking out from profile

    • @ESOrthodontics
      @ESOrthodontics  6 років тому

      I have never heard that concept before "stretch the bone." Crowding can lead to your teeth being flared. The degree of flaring can impact your profile for both the positive and negative. Your lip could stick out.

    this is why you get orthodontic treatment at an early age so they could expand your jaws to fit more teeth and negate extractions in the future
    if your past the age of 18 i’m sorry to say this but if you have serious crowding you need extractions or surgery since you’re past the growth stage

  • @brianhoy

    DON’T get extractions! I had 4 teeth extracted and it made my palate smaller which reduced space for my large tongue. So after braces my teeth became flared with an overjet/protrusion. Never had this issue before braces. I also became a mouth breather and started drooling in my sleep.

      Hey!
      Don’t be scared. If your son has crowding or an overbite then he’ll definitely need to get his teeth extracted. I had braces almost 3 years ago. I had an overbite and was recommended to get 4 teeth extracted and I went for it. I have a beautiful smile now and I also don’t regret it !

      @@squirrel8397 I was 13. I didn’t experience any side effects. I personally think that these all are myths! Why would an orthodontist extract your teeth if your face structure gets ruined or you get any side effects? They’re trained and they extract your teeth so that you achieve a nice smile. If you’ve minor crowding then u can ask your ortho about an expander. If you use that then they might not have to extract your teeth. But I’d still recommend getting your teeth extracted.

    I have an overbite and so a proturding upper lip, and moreover gap on both sides at back between upper and lower jaws when i immitate a normal bite (by bringing the lower jaw forward). And my teeth are less visible when i talk, and i have to force to smile to make teeth more visible.
    I think these all problems are related to eachother, so i wanted to know what this thing problem is called and will be going for braces in a while, so would you recommend teeth extraction? I particulary dont feel fine as i think it can ruin my face.
