  • Removing teeth for braces, orthodontics and to straighten teeth is a mistake you will regret for the rest of your life.
Removing teeth for braces can in the long run can ruin your life. There are very few situations where straightening teeth and removing teeth is a good idea. The better strategy is to use expanders to create room for all the teeth to fit.
The side effects of extraction orthodontics:
    Mouth Breathing
    Mouth Breather Face
    Sleep Apnea
    Teeth Clenching and Bruxism
    TMJ Pain
    Poor Posture
Braces and adult teeth extractions will cause a decrease in facial profile. No one wants to see their lips and chin sink into their face. A better technique is to use orthodontic palate expanders to grow more space in the jaws so all your teeth fit. There are many appliances capable of growing the jaws wider, taller and more forward. Creating better facial structure now will prevent future teeth clenching, sleep apnea, wrinkles and poor facial profile. Maxillary expanders are available for adults and kids. The Vivos and Homeoblock appliances are two examples of adult appliances that should be explored.

Agreed. You and me both. Best treatment for crowed and crooked teeth is expansion and then orthodontics if necessary

@@SereneOrthodontics .. My son's orthodontist and dentist NEVER told us about mouth expansion .. so he had four teeth removed for braces, and yes, now his face is more rounded than his brother's face who had no teeth removed. I am so DISGUSTED that they never told me about mouth expansion. Also, who knows if as he grew, his mouth could have expanded on its own. The things Dentists and Ortho-DONT-ists do are HORRIBLE!! And none of them know what to tell their patients to eat and not to eat to keep their teeth healthy! And .. my other sons dentists keeps telling him to get his wisdom teeth removed. I told him not to do that. If his wisdom teeth are not bothering him, why in the world would you have surgery to remove them? It's DISGUSTING the things medical doctors do to get more money .. unnecessary procedures. And my son told me "I liked my teeth better BEFORE I got braces."

The teeth are moving around because they are not in a stable position. The bite needs to be balanced with expanders and most people need the help of a myofunctional therapist to strengthen and train the tongue and lip muscles. The therapists are myofunctional therapists.

      # me too (the other “me too”). Have you tried an adult expander like Homeoblock or DNA appliance?

@@SereneOrthodontics haven't tried those yet. I WAS using a 2 piece customized VIVOS appliance, which was working very well. The appliance broke almost a year ago, and I haven't been able to get it fixed because the dentist who customized it is a 4-5 hour drive away and I haven't been able to travel their in a while due to extreme weather conditions.

Thank you for this new video Dr. Adams. I like the insightful videos the appliances and airway health. Quick question:
If someone has all of his or her teeth (including the wisdom teeth), does that facilitate expansion with the Homeoblock or DNA appliance? Does that make give someone more "expansion potential" so to speak?
In other words, do people who have never had extractions have more expansion potential than those who had extractions?

Good question! I wonder the same….

    • @SereneOrthodontics
      @SereneOrthodontics  Рік тому +1

Not necessarily, but it sure helps to have more teeth. We certainly try to create enough room so they can all fit. Sometimes wisdom teeth just won’t fit. Usually we can get space for all the other teeth. We usually do appliance treatment prior to considering wisdom teeth removal. And if anything they usually help with expanding.

This is true my sister went to a dentist and she got several teeth extracted for braces, after few years she removed her barces and her teeth was yellow and some of her teeth were eaten and needed to filled out, the wisdom tooth are especially yellowish and black even after cleaning. Worst part is that her front teeth is moving forward because she is stoped using retainers and when exercise she cant help herself except to breathe from her mouth and it is difficult to keep breathing from her nose for more than seconds
Anyway to reverse this horrible treatment ? Or she just should leave it like that
