I thought Don did some session work. Plus he toured in LA before he was signed and they were a successful band, plus he probably got a deal or it wasn't his own.
Alan Niven tried breaking Australian band The Angels in the US (under the name of Angel City), he was the one who later suggested Great White record a cover of The Angels' 'Face The Day' which was their breakthrough hit. He mismanaged The Angels & literally cut them off & left them hanging during an American tour. From all accounts, Alan Niven was quite a mercurial, stubborn & forceful manager who stole the management for his most successful acts (Motley Crue from Alan Kauffman & Guns N' Roses from Vicky Hamilton). Sure he helped take them to the next level of exposure & success but he never actually discovered them & does not deserve such credit. Niven went off the rails with his excessive lifestyle & demands.
@@jeffreyfederico8435 Nikki Sixx pretended to play his bass. Mick Mars was mediocre at best and Vince Neil couldn't sing a lick. Tommy was a pretty good drummer.
"But MY record is BETTER than THEIRS!"...... SMH 🙄 ..Yeah SURE Don-boy, THAT Breaking the Chains LP WAS sooo MUCH "BETTER" than ANYTHING, off the TOO Fast for Love album...🫢😵💫 Talk about some funny stuff there now......Jeez, I guess he REALLY DID/does hate M.C. 🫤
Dokken was my least liked band in the 80's. I liked Motley Crue and Wasp, the harder stuff. Metallica and Megadeath later on. That sappy almost heavy pop stuff just never turned me on. I still don't understand how people listen to such nonsense.
Listen to kiss of death, Paris is burning, tooth and nail, turn on the action, til the Livin' end, Mr. Scary...you might understand why we listened to Dokken.
Maybe he has to sing in a lower register but at least he can remember his lyrics and doesn't give the fans maybe 2 to 3 words per song live like Crue does.
That Don Dokken record is criminally underrated!
He's talking about Breaking The Chains here, isn't he?
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Merry Christmas!
Same to you too.
Merry Christmas! How did I NOT know about this channel???
Thanks to all you for making these videos
Without that management Dokken would never had made it. Just shows you what killer management can do.
Please ask Alan Niven if he has any Vinnie Vincent stories, as he was signed to this label.
He said that Vinny was a real wanker ...
Where did Don get the money to buy a classic Bentley at that point in time, before being signed to a major label? 🤔

I think the car belonged to Wagener. It was brought up by Don in a different interview IIRC.
You can rent cars like Bentley or Rolls Royce.
@@christopherwood2290 If you have money you can rent anything. How do you think they use cars in movies or TV shows or for any major event.
Don actually worked in aerospace and made insanely good money for a time... I believe he was a talented machinist... hence his older age.
Yes, Merry Christmas to you too. Incredibly Great Story, I had no idea of the details.
Don brought the Ladies to the sausage party with his lyrics . Thanks !!!
Alan Niven’s voice reminds me of Ritchie Blackmore’s.
The guy that has this channel, his voice somewhat reminds me of nikki sixx's voice..
Was thinking the same thing!
A 2nd channel! Nice! 🤟
Dokken definitely better than Crue.
I remember riding on the metro. Tom Zutaut came to a showcase for my band in the late 90’s.
Thought this was gonna end on a bad note. Glad it didn't.

Merry Christmas! Just subscribed!
Merry Christmas.
Crue had a better image and girls liked them better. Plus their 1st 2 albums were heavier
Nice car
Yeah sure...Just proving again? ...WHAT KINDA individual , Donnie DOKKEN WAS, EVEN, BACK THEN. 😒 Leastways IMO....IF he's already got the Bentley, WHAT'S he even needing signage FOR? 🤨....Lol
@@jamescon55Was he independently wealthy, before the Elektra deal?
I do have to disagree with dokken songs being better than Motley songs. Maybe better at a couple things but overall, I can't agree but what do I know.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but I would say Dokken had better singing, much better guitar, writing about on par.
Are you joking? Dokken were better musicians, arrangers, writers and better live. Love motley, but Dokken and Ratt were WAY more talented

Tooth and Nail was pretty heavy besides the ballad Alone Again. They actually toured with heavier bands like Judas Priest and Dio during that time.
@@no14me26 Don Dokken also sang background vocals on the . Scorpions' Blackout album.
@@no14me26 I've tried. I just don't like Dokken or any slickly produced "Metal" for that matter.
@@dirkjewitt5037Not a problem. To each his own. That's one reason I love metal so much. It's got something for everyone, if you dig a little.
Dons been unable to sing for well over 20 yrs!!! He's ripping his fans off n disgracing his own legacy every time he performs!!!!

"legacy"? lol!.
