I don’t think you actually need to have seen the SJA and previous series’ of Doctor Who for audiences to understand the Trickster! A brief summery and a few flashbacks will do it! Same with the Toymaker you don’t need to have seen his first story with William Hartnell to understand who and what he is! You can reintroduce characters in ways that you can give new audiences an idea of what the character is without making them go back through Doctor Who’s back catalogue! Also, first comment! That’s new I almost never get first comments
That's where Ruby comes in - since she acts as a "new audience" surrogate since she is just as inexperienced with the Whoniverse as new audiences, she will naturally ask the doctor questions about the Trickster - perfect opportunity for a quick bit of exposition without it feeling forced
@@maniaccop3403 in fact much of the Church on Ruby Road is centred around Ruby not just to introduce us to her character but to also give new audiences an introduction to the Doctor from her eyes because she’s in the same boat as new fans
Also we have kept Trickster memory already along the way, for example with the Time Beatle. And with two very extreme beings like Toymaker and Maestro - understanding a similar being wouldn't be hard.
I think that if the Trickster was to be reintroduced, it would need, and would be perfect, to be sometime in the next few series, as it matches the tone RTD is setting
after watching today's episode i knew they were teasing the Trickster after mentioning The Pantheon as well as the chaos they have been leaning into with both the Toymaker and the Maestro. There is no way that Russel is not teasing the Trickster.
I really hope he is. Cause I’ve been saying for years since I was a kid that when I saw The Trickster & if he ever appeared In Doctor Who. He would make one hell of a bad guy
Don’t forget the flashback to the church on ruby road in the last episode, where you see a hooded figure. As soon as I saw him, I was like yep that’s the Trickster alright!
@@exwa1300The Trickster with the 15th Doctor would just never feel the same as the Trickster with the 10th Doctor. 😓. Not really an offence to the 15th Doctor but David tennant is kinda leagues ahead as the doctor. Doesn't feel like 15 can ever live up to 9, 10, 11 and 12. Shame
I think the 'reboot' is just for a series number reset so people don't feel like they are missing a bunch of stuff when they check it out on Disney+. Doctor who has always had these jumping on points while still bringing classic villains on. The way that doctor who handles these jumping on points reminds me of how star wars started with episode 4 but removed that subtitle in the initial screenings. Sometimes it's just not necessary to watch a story in chronological order
I think every one of the villains has associated with The Toymaker in some way. Hell, the gold dust The Master has in the TV movie isn't explained. But yet what does he eventually get trapped into? A gold tooth.
doctor who is more of a family show I'd say and always has been. I think they're referring to sarah jane adventures which ran on cbbc so deemed "a kids show" but the trickster and many other monsters or villains on that show where rather scary and not really "for kids"
@@laggyhuman4169 no it's not there's literally scenes like people getting sliced and drilled into from conversion and big headed doll transformations and people getting flattened so no it's not and many scary scenes 😂
In fact the trajectoey of Rubys story is the same as a charscter from Sahra Janes adventures and RTD has sayed he would like to eventuly tell a version of that story
My only issue with it possibly being the Trickster is the way the Toymaker hyped him up. After claiming to no-diff the Master, god, and other huge powerful figures, he said he was bloody terrified at this "one who waits" character. He said "I saw it... and I ran" - and to me, while the Trickster is insanely powerful... has he really ever shown he is above the Toymaker in terms of power? In fact - I'd argue his power set is even more limited than the Toymaker's, so it just wouldn't feel right in terms of stakes (unless he has some kind of power boost) but I always envisioned this character to be Sutekh - since Sutekh faced the doctor in a weakened state and yet absolutely destroyed him. The doctor could only truly beat him by imprisoning him again. Sutekh in a WEAKENED state is as powerful as the Toymaker/Trickster, so god only knows how insane he could be at his highest ability And to be fair - there is a good amount of evidence to say it could be Sutekh. The trailer showing the sand covering London in the finale two-parter is evocative of Sutekh's "ancient egypt" aesthetic, and the character has been imprisoned for a very, very long time. As well as this - I heard that RTD said that a character from Tom's era will make an appearance in this season But who knows!
I have a theory that the shadow from the howling halls that killed Elton’s mum. And Skye is the tricksters daughter originally 4 years ago in the farewell Sarah Jane lockdown escaped
My main theory right now about new Who is that Ruby was saved by the Trickster as an infant and it's directly why she can bring up that one Christmas Day including snowflakes. Trickster's actions inherently making Doctor rely on someone who shouldn't be alive - making survival of the universe depended on her paradoxical upbringing - in the end feeding Trickster and his come back.
The trickster unfortunately is unlikely to ever come back considering he was dated by Gareth Roberts and I don’t think he deserves any involvement in doctor who, but if they don’t need to go to him then I’d love for the trickster to come back
Funny that he seams to br zhe main villain again and that Ruby Sunday might be his daughter. Honestly that would explain why sheis writen to be so perfect i mean shehad tobe or the trick would be ruined

The trickster, and Martha to come back is all I want 😅
So far the last we heard of the Trickster, the Doctor shrink him and imprisoned him in a chest on the wake of Sarah Jane’s death.
I’m assuming it was the Eleventh Doctor that did it since Ten regenerated into Eleven before Sky smith
That hooded figure in new series makes me think of it
I need the trickster to return so bad

SJA is more teens, not a kids show. Not the same. Teens could endure a lot more horrors in media, I think.

I honestly find it strange that Torchwood directly referenced SJA, it’s like if SJA referenced Children Of Earth, it just feels wrong
