Thank you for this video. I have a Gemini and didn’t know I needed that foiling machine. Loved you showed how to fix a problem. Love your videos. I’m 75 and only found this hobby about a year and a half ago.
Thanks for your tips. Perfect timing on this video - my foil machine( unopened) has been sitting on the floor of my craft corner since June. I finally tried it out last night and I'm hooked!
Thank you for a great video. My wallet does not thank you since I just purchased the entire system, both the Glimmer Hot foil plate and the Platinum Die cutter. 2 days ago when I saw a video that mentioned hot foiling I was intrigued but confused. I’ve been a fan of yours for years (since CK days) and when this video popped up in my feed I jumped right on it. So thorough and informative!! I understood how everything worked after you explained it, then of course realized that I needed all of it. I haven’t really tried anything new with my crafting recently and I’m so excited to add something new to my repertoire. You’re the best!
Love your first hot foil plate! Your cards and tag turned out great! I especially love the trees card - those are my fav colors, and I love that you saved it in the end. Simon Hurley recently did a video on his first hot foil attempt, and he has some good tips. He actually was pretty aggressive with the Mono Sand Eraser and surprisingly it worked perfectly to remove over-foiling seemingly without damaging his background. Jennifer McGuire has tons of tips, of course, and Yana Smakula has some great videos as well on the technique, both use the tape/hinge technique. Spellbinders sells a small mat with a grid that comes with 2 little knives, one for paper, the other for foil, and it works really well to hold down and cut the foil to the perfect size, from there you can trim away the edges to avoid over-foiling. It's inexpensive and I highly recommend adding it to your foiling stash!
Great example as to why we keep going when we have an oops. Always my creative leader you are! I'm digging how you kept your design style using glitz and spritz! Look forward to your next card sesh 👉
LoL, mine sat for about 5 months before I got the guts to try it! Isn't it crazy how intimidating these things can be? I was just as bad with my scan and cut. I still am! I chewed holes in my mat because I had the setting too deep. I haven't touched it since! I sure want to get the hang of it, the few I cut correctly were amazing!!
Love the cards! This will be helpful I just bought a glimmer machine a few weeks ago and I have not used yet. Will definitely will buy your hot plate! Thank you
I love how you keep the mistakes/happy accidents in your videos. That way we get ideas on our to fix our own issues on our cards. Thank you. Oh yeah....congratulations on your 30 year Anniversary!! I hope you 2 get to do something fun! Thank you as always for your inspiration and card ideas. Oh yeah...and laughter! Cardmaking looks good on you! 🥰🥰💖💖
Thanks for all the info on hot foiling. It seems way less complicated than I thought. Good save on the tree card. I also thought the mono sanding eraser would work. ❤️
Fab as always! I would love to start foiling. Keep even the tiniest of scraps. With a glue that dried tacky, you can add those foil scraps. You’re so awesome!👏🏻
Just great Cathy! Great with that mono eraser!!! I agree crystals compete too much on the pink shimmer. But a small stamp or small die cut if a Christmas ornament or even a candy cane from your other stamp set or even just stencil one tree into one of the blank corners would add to some of the extra blank space. ? Just a thought.
I just have to add another comment because I just love what you just did with the hot foil machine‼️ Being able to erase that extra foil, was just so cool‼️ Cool tag. I love watching your videos, keep them coming‼️ 😊😊
Ta da! Mono sand eraser to the rescue! Excellent. I just got both the foil and die cut from Spellbinders. I’m excited you’re designing hot foil plates. You’re funny!
I’m a laminator foiler myself but of all the videos I’ve seen regarding the glimmer system you have used it in a different way to most. You’ve heated up your foil plate which means a better foiling result and utilised the machines guidelines for placement of your foiling. Love it Kathy, as always! ❤️
Add the foil and card after the machine is fully heated up (die can be heating earlier). Hit the start button and leave until the timer goes off. Card may curl with no plates on top, but don’t worry. The biggest suggestion is to NOT put the plate and shim on until you have pulled the base out of the machine. Go immediately to your die cut machine. Almost always perfect doing it this way, even when using larger pieces of foil! Took me a while to figure this out.
I felt much better hearing your story about the Glimmer machine. I bought mine because I had so much transfer foil, and didn't realize it wouldn't work with it! It definitely took a little practice, and I found a mono-sand eraser gently used would remove some of the unintended excess foil hiccups I would get on my project.
Love the cards. Def cut the foil as small as possible, also i find that different shim layers, sometimes more -sometimes less,of paper does wonders. Some little white snowflakes would look wonderful on the red card, but they both came out awesome!! Thanks as always!!
I actually had the same kind of results my first time foiling with the glimmer machine. I watched Jennifer McGuire and she also shows using the mono sand eraser to take off the foil in the wrong places! She also has a spinning sand eraser tool to use that supposedly works great. I bought one off Amazon but haven’t tried it myself yet. Love watching your videos Cathy! Thanks for all you do! ❤️
I am brand new to this hobby. I went hog wild at hobby lobby, and bought this, a sizzix Bog Shot, and a Spellbinders Platinum. I will give one to my daughter after I see which one I like best. Now I need to use them.🥰
Oh wow i love the cards and the ease of making them. I've never tried a mica or spray of any kind now am tempted at getting them seeing how easy it is to use them and come up with someting wonderful. I tot i'd make a hot mess so stayed away 😂 thanks for sharing Cathy💖
Well Cathy, I guess I'm officially part of the "Boop Crew"! I was watching a video by another card maker and she put some sequins on her card and when the video was over I kept thinking that something was missing, but couldn't figure it out. I went to fix myself some lunch and it hit me--I was waiting for the boop! Beautiful cards!
Just thought I'd see how this worked for you - I've been considering a foil machine and wasn't sure if it was worth it. I'm big on powder/heat embossing. Anyhoo. I have those sentiment strips and love how you used a marker for the core. Great idea!!
Such cool cards! I love looking at the results of the foiling machine and process, just think I’ll stick with metallic embossing. You got some great cards from your session today, TFSharing, Cathy, love watching you create your colorful clean and simple cards! 💌
Thank you for sharing this experience. I don't think I will be doing the foiling any time soon. It looks like a lot of work. It does look good at the end though.
Inspiration!!!! I'm going to try to run some of my O-L-D brass stencils from the 90s through my foiling machine with foil and CS...and see what happens. Wish me luck!!!
Good job @Cathy Zielske. I’m waiting on my Minc machine should be here Tuesday 10-12-21. I hope it functions similar to the Glimmer plate. If so- I think I can handle it! Enjoyed your video.
After I dyed my hands red and green using mica stains, I bought some rubber gloves, too. Smart move. I'm sure you figure this out later on in the video but over foiling is very common. You just rub it off with a sand eraser.
Love seeing you learn in process. I have the foil machine and am still learning. I have had it for a year and got a few plates this year. I have tried the Spellbinders Glimmer Club set and stopped as I wasn't spending enough time to really learn it. My goal is to make several Christmas cards with it this year. So far, one is complete! Thanks for sharing your process and your excitement.
Love these cards! I bought one of those Glimmer machines but I haven't tried it yet. I have one of the new Stampin Up die cutting machines. It looks like a Spellbinder Platinum sort of so I'm hoping I have the right Glimmer machine. There are two versions. .
Did you see Simon Hurley's first time foiling video? I don't know if anyone else suggested you should check out Yana Smakula's videos for using the Glimmer and the hinge method. And she uses the sand eraser too. Awesome cards!
You are just too funny...love the cards. Yes the mono eraser is the go to tool. You should check with your friend Jennifer McGuire and all her foiling ones....good tips. Keep on foiling
Cathy, congrats on your maiden voyage with the Glimmer System. It has taken me over a year and I still have trust issues with mine. Jennifer Mcguire uses the hinge method with hers and after watching countless videos: Trim foil as close to size as possible. Heat the system with all the plates and maybe one cardstock shim. The key is the right amount of pressure for the size of die and cardstock. The paper you use is also important, 100lb smooth works the best.
My first attempt wasn't that great so I can appreciate your oops! I've since learn to use the "hinge' method to applying my die and plate and have had better success. Great card
Love your videos that you do in real time...as opposed to a voice over. Far more fun with your real reactions as you try something new! Love reading all the comments too....sooooo many of us buy these expensive machines and then.they.sit.....for months! Why do we do that? I did that with my Sizzix die cut machine...not sure why..probably a little fear & lack of understanding. Have NOT bought into this expensive foil system, just investigating at the moment. Interesting you didn't mention that this system is also compatible with Sizzix die cut machines...that's a biggie for me!
I don't know if it is or not, Marilyn! As I don't have a Sizzix machine. But yes, I need to do more with this… I feel like I still am mildly intimidated by it!
@@czdesign I have a hard time with your comment of you being "mildly intimidated" LOL! You do a great job and are one of the most pleasant people to watch and learn from!

And I am always having a small budget, so I do not start buying the foilmachine and dies, I will go with transfergel, stencils and foils or use my hobbyplotter and foil quill, that gives me a lot options without spending more money right now. Thanks for sharing
Very cool ! These really turned out great. Every time you said " should I do this or that", in my head I'm thinking do it that way & you did .....mind meld haha
Thank you Cathy. Is Hot Foil for You? This is exactly the question I've been asking myself! I have a minc that I hardly ever use but it seems like with all my dies maybe I should be doing hot foil... but all the videos I've watched assume I already know the basics. You read my mind!
Adorable 🥰 cards Cathy. Yes I tried Hot foiling for the first time this last week. I got the exact hot foiling machine like you for 75.00 at Hobby Lobby for my 50th birthday 🥳 and absolutely loved it.
Lucky! I decided too late to grab that deal and now it's gone. You can still get it for $99 and it's on sale now on Spellbinders site for $89. I'm just not sure it's worth it! Does it take up a lot of space in your craft room? It's like getting another kitchen appliance, "do I really need this appliance?"
if there is a lot of foil overage, I use an electric eraser, saves my hands, time, and removes it completely I use a square eraser so I can get very close to any words or images and I trim the foil as close as I can [the foil trimmings I save for tiny details, like ornaments, bells, doorknobs, stars, etc.]
Yes love it thereis definitely a learning curve saw an english lady joann hedges i think who has you tubes on foiling and tips. I found letterpress paper does well paper and shims if needed are important! All machines are different! Heat and pressure. Practice different ways once you find it it is magic! A white eraser removes overfoiling or couture creation electric eraser
Mono sand eraser for the save! I have watched many hot foil videos and most use the sand eraser to remove the over foiling.

Happy to get the boops and clucks today. Your ability to move through your fear of creating and doing new things inspires me to do the same.

Thanks for watching!

Did that with my Big Shot machine....then got mad at myself and opened it! Opened a whole new world.
You can do a hot foil on/using your smaller die and then offset below it the larger hot foil larger plate for an "echo" effect.
I received my hot foil machine last Tuesday, so your video is very timely for me. I love how you share your thought process. Thank you.
I really enjoy your videos because you keep it real and prove there are really no mistakes just new opportunities. Thank you
Loved watching you on your first try with foiling. I love the cards!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Pretty cards, Cathy. I had one that I had to keep dusting the box for about a year too. I was scared of it ;). So, I sold it

Does it take up a lot of space in your craft room? It's like getting another kitchen appliance, "do I really need this appliance?"
@@thehoys9412 No it doesn’t. I actually have it tucked in a drawer with my laminator, and other items.
if there is a lot of foil overage, I use an electric eraser, saves my hands, time, and removes it completely I use a square eraser so I can get very close to any words or images and I trim the foil as close as I can [the foil trimmings I save for tiny details, like ornaments, bells, doorknobs, stars, etc.]
What is an electric eraser?
Very pretty. I think since you are running out of space that you need a she shed for crafting.
Well, my daughter DID just move out of her room… hahah
Don't have a Glimmer or Gemini foil machine. Extra $ not in the budget. But I love the effects you get from foiling.
I am a boop crew member, yes. Thank you for our boops. >:> And I've never knew about these foil machines. What a beautiful result!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I need to get myself one of those erasers! Also, super cool with the hot foil!
I need to check out that eraser! You are the third person to mention it!
Oooh a new hot foil plate!!!
Haven’t tried foiling yet but after seeing your video would love too start! Thank you!
