Thank you so much for your informative vids.. very helpful and appreciated. the wife and myself are in the process of moving to Skipton. and we're looking at buying a GRP cruiser purely for the Leeds Liverpool canal. with a budget of around about 15g.(which gives us various options..re wider beam boat's) does the boat safety certificate that would come with boat. cover osmosis... kind regards Dave..

Looking at the layout of of GRP fiber boats, is it possible to gut one out, then install the galley into the front 'V', then creating more living space, or is there a reason (you or anyone else) knoes of, to why its placed where it is?
Hi, Darryl. Yes you could do this you always need to think about weight and safety access where cooking is going on re fire and exits! Of course, but I see no reason why this could not be done in fact I seem to remember this was done on a UK production GRP boat in the 1970s. I can't remember the make and model will have to look at some old magazines but sure I don't see any problems if you think it through. Thanks for your comment Kev.
Good Video. A boat like this could never go to the ocean right? I live in the Uk far from the sea, would love to have a boat that would be able to spend some time on the canals but also go to Portugal.
Well, My Sealine 22 could do small offshore hops in good weather but the likes of the small Freeman 22 cruiser no I would not want to take a boat out on the coast like this. Mind I do know a chap that many years ago took a small Freeman 22 across the English Channel and onto the French canals and rivers! Its all about experience and choosing the weather and having the right kit on a small boat at sea but you're right it's not something I would advise and you need to know your boat inside out and your own and boat limitations for sure . The best days of owning a cruiser are the day you buy it and the day you sell it everything in the middle is just an expense mooring feels tools tax insurance not to mention if you keep the boat in a marine or boatyard you have to normally use there service for repairs lot of places won’t let other tradesman on-site best thing I ever done sell my cruiser got a smaller boat (speedboat on a trailer
Do you know what sadly these days I tend to agree with you on this. I mean say you buy a small cheap Freeman 22 and then want it on the river the Thames in a Marina within a few short years 3 or less you could have paid out in mooring fees alone more than the blessed boat is worth. Sadly not like the late '60s on into the 1970s and 80s when things did not seem such a silly price however pleasure cruisers have never been cheap for sure. But I would not have wanted to miss the super places that I go to on all my boats over the years but I think I had the best years doing this in GRP river boats for sure. Great comment thanks. Kev.
great video on fiberglass problems, it is amazing boats from 40 years ago are still ok and fiberglass (GRP) really was so much better than the wood boats and even steel if you consider heaviness as a negative,, , , ,, ,, in the USA here in Iowa the idea of using thick steel for pleasure boats seems INSANE to us since we aren't going to be ramming at 20mph anything or carrying 10tons like the narrowboats were originally meant for, , , ,,, I had a macgregor 26 sailboat that slept 4 and was 26 feet and fiberglass weighed just 2000lbs...... Here in the sunnier parts of USA it is sunlight not the water that causes blisters more but they can form anywhere....
Yeah I like the cruisers a lot, still there are many benefits and downsides when comparing both types of Boats, narrow boats and more ideal for living long term in the British waterways for example

No, the boat safety certificate does not cover osmosis.
