@@lailamohamed5353 yes you shpuld be good to do it anytime, perfect for the time you are planning as spring and summer will help give it plently of growth. yeah same method should work fine for the other seeds, not all will need stratification.
After damaging a few seed i came up with this method ! Take the pit sharpest end and hold it to a bench grinder. After a few seconds a small hole will appear in the hard outer shell ,through this hole you can easily nip away at the hard outer shell with a pair of nail clippers. Did over a dozen in less than 5 minutes !!!
Before you grow a tree 5 years be warned that from seed chances of getting a cherry worth eating are very slim so if you don't want to test 200 get a grafted variety you like or graft your own
I would suggest anyone who doesn't want to buy a couple nursery trees is find someone that has a good tree that will let you dig up suckers, then after you have them established graft a couple good variety on being it takes a good while to get it fruiting you don't want to waste that time
Thats pricy! Best to steel them from a neighbours garden... 🤣😂 Seriously though if you are lucky enough to have a place that has wild cherry trees these are ideal to plant as they make very good rootstocks for grafting later. Or buy a grafted plant from a garden center.

cuttings are not ideal as the root system is rubbish. A seed grown grafted would be perfect. Ill be planning on grafting a few of mine when the time is right,.
@@0verfiend I think your just trolling while your acting like your not. For good grafted plants you use a wild variety of the plant that is ideally suited to the location, then graft a scion. Then your tree has all the benefits of a solid seed grown rootstock and a cutting. A cutting is produced differently and has no tap root.
I've planted hundreds of cherry pits and not a single one has ever germinated. I was just soaking the entire pit in water and then planting them. I guess I'll try this method.

@@lailamohamed5353 yes you shpuld be good to do it anytime, perfect for the time you are planning as spring and summer will help give it plently of growth. yeah same method should work fine for the other seeds, not all will need stratification.

Hi Alex how are you?
Thanks allots for your information 🙏
Good thanks! Your welcome, glad you enjoyed it 😀 Happy growing!! 🌱
Great Idea Tom!
Today is Dec 20 Took the seeds from the paper towel in refrigerator and placed in pots ,roots about 11/2 inch long and under light's now !!!
Before you grow a tree 5 years be warned that from seed chances of getting a cherry worth eating are very slim so if you don't want to test 200 get a grafted variety you like or graft your own
5 years passes like a few months these days! and we can graft and get cherries much sooner.
I would suggest anyone who doesn't want to buy a couple nursery trees is find someone that has a good tree that will let you dig up suckers, then after you have them established graft a couple good variety on being it takes a good while to get it fruiting you don't want to waste that time
"cherrys you might of nicked from your neighbors garden"
*Got me laughing*
Also thanks ima make this
Lol thanks Luciana!
@@GreenthumbsGarden np! lol i was laughing too much
Great idea, I'll have to give it a try next time we get some cherries!
Get some in and let us know how it goes!

I got a cherry last evening. I average one or two per week.
Very informative video. I enjoyed learning how to start cherries from seed. I love them but cant afford 4-$5 per pound
Thats pricy! Best to steel them from a neighbours garden... 🤣😂 Seriously though if you are lucky enough to have a place that has wild cherry trees these are ideal to plant as they make very good rootstocks for grafting later. Or buy a grafted plant from a garden center.
Like Mars Hydro - using two of their lights in my growing
I’ve nicked a few neighbors’ cherries myself. Even busted one or two.
😂🤣 I done plents of scrumping back in the day... if it was off someone else's tree, somehow it tasted better... 😅
@@GreenthumbsGarden Absolutely!!!
@@tommyhunter1817 😂🤣 they were the days Tommy. The kids today don't care at all. Last time I was back in my home town I walked down the street and I saw apple trees in gardens full, fruit falling rotting on the floor.... Sad. We would have had em all, Rhubarb the lot... anything we could find. Then got Grandad to make us a crumble...lol. kids are just not bothered anymore.
@@GreenthumbsGarden they have no clue--about anything.
IF U TAKE OFF 2ND SHELL N THEN PUT N WET NAPKIN THEY WILL GERMINATE WAY FASTER.
Eating cherries as I soak in my garden tub... Always wanted a cherry tree. :)
Thanks my friend ❤️ , 2023 20 September
To get true to type cherries take a cutting from the tree and grow that instead of trying pot luck with seeds.
cuttings are not ideal as the root system is rubbish.
Great information and extremely well presented. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada 🍁
Thanks mate!
Chears from Winnipeg
Thanks brother
Any time
I don't know how it taste..but this fruit looks so delicious and beautiful
Try it, it is delicious!
@@GreenthumbsGarden thank you
Appreciate your sharing, thanks.
My pleasure!
My opinion for the best potting soil is the ponting soil that sinks when you water it
I wish a good sandy loam was available here in the garden centers but it seems impossible to find.
Excellent!
Glad you liked it! :-)
Can you do a vid on growing a tobacco plant, I'm sick of being ripped off at the shops buying roll up tobacco, thanks.
5 quid is $4 in America love my cherry 🍒🌸 what a jem.
Definitely trying
I've planted hundreds of cherry pits and not a single one has ever germinated. I was just soaking the entire pit in water and then planting them. I guess I'll try this method.
yep they need the cold chill hours to trigger :-)
Thanks
Your welcome mate!
My first time seeing you. I subscribed. I love cherries. I'm going to start one for my daughter. She will be so happy. I will tell her it's from you too. Thank you for sharing. 💕. Nice shirt 😀
Brilliant! make sure to try and grow at least 2 so they can cross pollinate😀 and let me know how you get on!
Cheers.
Question: You don't have to spray them (water) or anything once you put them in the fridge (for 4 months)? Are you supposed to check on the progress, if so when should one check on the progress? Thank you for the video. Seems easy enough.
In the U S they call it tin foil
Splendid video mate!
Thanks Kori 😁
@@GreenthumbsGarden Top shelf!
Great demo is itvthe same for peaches ? Plums etc ? Does temp matter I live in carribean rearly less than 25° Thanks
Yes Prunus "cherries, plums, peaches" generally need a cold winter "chill hours" to trigger flowering and fruit production. Hope that helps @roger55es Happy Growing 🌱😊
When you realize that this could have been done with bananas, grapes, and watermelons, before they were mainly sold in the "seedless" variety:
Wow I like this channel, and the editing with that sponsor!
Thanks for the feedback Lily! Hoping to be able to keep making many more interesting vids ☺️
Thanks 😊
You're welcome!
I trying this few year back now i know hwo to this now
I cracked is the show, but I did. I had one word. Well I cracked another one with a chair. It actually worked
Thanks for sharing
I got cherries so im gonna do this rn
Brill! Let me know how it goes 😊
I just ate a bunch of cherries and was wondering if I could grow them from the seeds. I’ll have some cherry trees sometime soon
Suggestion...get a pair of needle nose pliers to hold that! I was astounded you didn't get your finger !
Him: "snuggly buggly"
Me: smashes subscribe
😅🤣 now smash that share button!! 😅
Thank you!
I.m eating cherries now and just this video poppoedup
Brilliant!! the old algorithm doing me a solid 😂
This is great. I should try these on peach seeds also. But I think it's too late in the season and have them planted outside. I'm in Ohio
yes Peach, Apricots, all the same technique. Recent video out is on peach pits.
I have lots of cherry pits left over after I tell the cherries to " GET IN MAH BELLY !"
😂🤣🤣🤣
fantastic man
Good information. I tried with pliers. Did not work. Thanks for working tool. Thanks
they did not sprout? how long did you have them in the fridge?
No I used pliers. I damaged all seeds. The tools you used works. Thanks a lot. Now I can grow
Thank you so much for your help !!! 😉
Thanks Monica Shupe 😀 Happy growing!! 🌱
Nice work.
Can you rehydrate & germinate them after drying & storing?
if you store them well like any seed then you should be able to yes.
water after you plant the seed. 1 you arnt playing in mud 2 it settles the dirt around the seed and deals with airgaps.
That's a very valid point Grail! Of you just take care to water gently I think it's a great idea. Thanks
Tanx man
After eating cherries, did you dry them and for how long? How long did you keep the pods in the fridge before opening them with tongs? Greetings
How about that! I planted 2 seeds and neither came up. I didn't know about outer shells. Wish I had found y sooner
i just use plain old plyers to crack the cherry seeds no problem put in papertowel damppen but do not seal ziploc if you use them it can mold 2-3 weeks place in pots of good soil wet and wait most will sprout
thanks for the tip Frank!
Nice tutorial!
Just a question, did you add any water at any point in the 3 months that you had the seeds in the fridge?
Yes if you see the paper towel getting a little dry just dampen it with a spray or a few drops 🙃
@@GreenthumbsGarden Update, 6 of my cherry seeds have sprouted! It’s been just about 3 months.
A few of them have long enough roots to plant
Thank you
I start out all my seeds using the same method. 2 weeks is all it takes, maybe three.
Thanks, 👍👍👍👍👍
Grill my own cherries that I nicked from my neighbor's butt garden?
Dude, I got enough problems !
😂🤣😂😅
