54:26 “Her eyes just went out” So glad you noticed this detail because it’s often gets overlooked. When they’re under the influence their eyes are silver. The drug wore off just as she was dying. That’s why her expression softened as she looked at Logan. It’s actually pretty sad. Great reaction!
I was also thinking that if her healing factor is as good as wolverines, she's probably still alive. She just can't move because her muscles are basically coated in adamantium.
Jason Stryker was called the Illusionist in this film, able to create illusions in people's minds to confuse their sense of what's real, however in the comics his mutant power is to project a blinding white light from his body which can render people unconscious. Magneto isn't truly interested in wiping out the X-Men, because they're still mutants and they're still part of his 'people' if you will. He's still hoping he can win them over to his point of view and thus become that much stronger against what he sees as the true threat: humans.
What I like about the X-Men characters is that no one is strictly "good" or "bad". Everyone has their motives. I'm looking forward to your reaction to #XMenFirstClass.
Mr. October: "Ain't that such an invasion of privacy though?" Ms. October: "Yeah but isn't it majestic AF though?" Bahaha, you guys are awesome. The X-Men are a general metaphor for marginalized people and how society treats them, so there is often a political thread running through the stories. If mutants were embraced and loved for their powers instead of feared or weaponized, the stories would be very different. Dealing with "bad" mutants should be the same as dealing with "bad" humans, on an individual basis. Seeing these old X-Men movies is so wild. Very different from modern day superhero movies.
1:15:00 the Professor didn't shock the president, he even Said it wasnt a treat, he gave documents about the other who wanna start the war. Jean was talking in the end of the movie, for US to know She ain't death, Also, this movies are based from the cómics and anime, who was already fan knows that Jane can Turn into a Phoenix and that the figure in the water that you saw. She is the most powerful mutant 💅💪 I recommend you to watch the anime in the 90s of X-men. It was so cool 😍
In the Comics Nightcrawler is the son of Mystique and a Mutant named Azazel, (whom won't be introduced until X-Men First Class. Just rememberKurt's powers and you'llknow).
When it comes to Magneto and Professor X, they are not enemies in the sense that they are trying to kill each other. They are fighting for mutant rights but they just have conflicting theologies on how to obtain it. They really are old friends that still are. They still share a mutual respect and brotherly love for each other.
In the comics, Scott , Bobby and Jean were among Charles’s 1st students. At one point they were captured so Charles recruited Logan, Storm, Kurt, and Peter.
It's awesome that you guys are really loving the older pre-MCU Marvel movies! 😄Hope you eventually get around to watching other Marvel heroes, such as; *Blade* (1998), *Hulk* (2003), *Daredevil* (2003), *The Punisher* (2004), *Elektra* (2005), *Fantastic Four* (2005), *Ghost Rider* (2007)
The "girl wolverine" is named Lady Deathstrike. She is a prominent Wolverine villain in the comics. Shes not related to Wolverine, but he did know her many years ago when he lived in Japan. She was also a part of the Weapons Plus program, like Wolverine, Deadpool, Sabertooth and others.
Nightcrawler despite looking like a Demon is deeply religious and a very good person . In the comic books he and Wolverine are best friends .Nightcralr was controled by Stryker when he tried to kill the President .
Yaaay glad you guys watched this. X-2 is my favourite X-Men movie.... so so freakin cool. Awesome story and awesome characters. Everyone did great in this one. :) Hiope it's ok to get nerdy here, there's quite a few callbacks to the comic origins in this movie (if you're interested): - The movie was hugely inspired by a popular X-Men comic "God Loves, Man Kills" - William Stryker is main villain but he's a church preacher in this, not a Military Scientist like the movie - You asked why Nightcrawler is German - in the comics he's German and they just kept it from the comics - When Nightcrawler talks to Mystique in that one scene: in the comics, Nightcrawler is Mystique's son in the comics, but the age differences are off in the movies so they just gave them a nice scene together :) - The big muscle guy who turns metal is Colossus from the comics - awesome character (but he's Russian in the comics) - The girl who lets out that loud screeching scream in the school is Siryn, daighter of Banshee - The girl who walks through walls is Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat, she features in the third movie. - In the comics, being a mutant was treated the same, as an allegory, for being gay - if you were day, you were shunned and mistreated by society, hence the question from Iceman's Mom "Have you tried 'not' being a mutant?" - always loved that line 1:12:00 - This thing under the water is a huge hint for fans of the comic "who are in the know" and if you don't know, I won't spoil it here. Anyway, loved loved that you guys watched this and loved it. It's so great..... still stands up as an awesome superhero movie today. Really hope the MCU versions of the X-Men hold up so well too and that the stories live up to this standard. :) Really love watching your reactions and love seeing you watch movies that I saw a whole 20 years ago at the cinema.... still can't believe they're that old :P Thanks guys. See you in next one,
Wolverine always had the healing factor, super senses, and claws, but the claws used to be bone. Mutant powers are a little more interesting because they always have a drawback and aren't always good even, like some people just get purple fur and people hate them, not everyone gets the S-tier powers and even those usually have drawbacks like Rogue
Nightcrawler was so badass in this one, sadly we've never really gotten the full scope of how cool some of the characters' powers can be, but we got a glimpse of his at least, honestly would've taken a whole movie full of scenes like that opening with the white house... In the comics he teleports by traveling through a hostile dimension which is why Sulphur and smoke and brimstone puff into a cloud everytime he teleports, he's leaving a little bit of that other atmosphere behind, also if he teleports you it's extremely taxing on your body, so sometimes during fights he uses teleports to save people but also he would grab an enemy and then teleport many times in a row very quickly and although he's okay because he's used to it, it makes the enemy pass out. We've even seen him use that technique to slow down Wolverine in the comics, teleporting him hundreds of times extremely fast to the point where he can't even stand.
IMO this is the B E S T X-Men movie until X-Men Days Of Future Past! The two BEST movies in the X-Men movies history! Love you guys and hope your 2024 is ROCKIN!
And yes Wolverine's claws do hurt everytime they come out... which is why he says (in the comics) "I only bring these out when I fully intend to kill, thats the only thing that makes that pain worth it". Also as for him bein the only adult at the school.. hes more than enough. He could take out a whole army by himself... the things hes done... Lets just say Id rather take my chance fighting the Hulk than fighting him. Also fun facts Lady Deathstrike (the girl with the nails) is Wolverine's ex wife and Storm is Black Panthers ex wife... and since the movies never tell you this Mystique is Nightcrawlers mother and Rogues (adoptive) mother. Also no adamantium and Vibranium are different
49:22 as many times as I've seen this movie, I never heard Storm name drop Jubilee. Like I knew she was in this in the background (Asian girl with the yellow jacket), but I had always wondered why she wasn't recognized in any way (she was a big part of the 90's animated series). I guess I always heard Storm say something else as I don't tend to watch movies with subtitles...but hey, I guess I learned something new.
Vibranium and Adamantium are 2 different metals and in the comics captain america shield is made with a mix of both metals because they didnt have enough Vibranium to make it out of full Vibranium and thats why cap mcu shield is weak compared to the comic one and if mcu cap had the comic shield thanos would've never been able to break it like he did in endgame
In Logan's past, he had a love interest, Rose, who was like Jean Grey, a redhead, with no mutant abilities, when his mutant powers manifested. He was in love with her, but she fell in love with someone else, Jean reminds him of her. That's why Logan was drawn to Jean. They never explored that in any of the movies. Logan was born in the 1880s, I think, the love interest aspect happened in that time period, in the Canadian territories.
That was a Phoenix in the water at the end. When Jean used her full power for good she was called the Phoenix. When she uses it for evil in the third one she's called Dark Phoenix.
In the comics Scott, Jean and Wolverine become a thrupple. Also, Wanda and Pietro are Magneto's children. Magneto also has two other mutant children: Lorna Dane and Zaladane.
If anyone is lost as to why Jean was outside the ship when her powers work through walls, during the whole movie she could feel her powers growing out of control. The telepathy in the mall, the struggling with her telekinesis, etc. Ever since her exposure to the radiation in X-men 1 her powers kept evolving. She could feel it growing inside her so she was scared it would eventually grow out of her control and she would hurt someone. So she saw the opportunity to use her power for good one last time while also taking care of the problem. We all know now though that it didn't work.
Mystique isn't evil- she is an old friend of Professor X and a very complex character who was ridiculed and bullied growing up for looking blue; helps understand why she follows Magneto's ideology. It is also why she say to Nightcrawler (her long lost son) that they shouldn't have to hide their true form.
In the comics, some crossover with the avengers Jean is a nexus being - which is any person with the power and capability to drastically affect probability / reality and time Wanda is also a nexus being Wanda and Pietro are Magneto’s children Storm and Black Panther get married Rogue has the ability to fly because she steals Ms. Marvels power There have been a bunch of avengers who have been in xmen and Vice versa
Stan Lee admitted that creating the X-Men was inspired by the Civil Right's Movements of the 60's. They were arguably the most explicitly political comics he had ever created by that time. As a young gay kid, I really identified with the whole X-Men franchise starting with the 90's cartoon. Being afraid of people finding out what you really are because you know there are people out there that hate and fear you. Politicians rallying against you. I was still in the closet and only 14 when Matthew Shepard happened. I saw this movie in theaters when I was 19 and really felt that line when the mom asks Bobby, "Have you tried Not being a mutant?" After I came out of the closet at 16, I had dozens of people ask me basically that same thing about being gay. I appreciated the allegory here.
Magneto told Striker about the school and Cerebro but not of his own choice. He was drugged. When Charles and cyclops went to visit magneto, Charles asked magneto “what did you tell him?” And maybes to said “everything, you should’ve killed me when you had the chance!” Also marvel has many different ways of giving people powers but the only way to be considered a mutant is to be born with the x gene that gives you powers. But if they manage to give someone without the x gene powers the general Public will assume they’re a mutant because they have powers and can’t be differentiated unless they’re tested
"MAGNETO IS A TOP TIER VILLAIN!" - This is also true in the comics. Magneto (created in 1963) still ranks as one of the top most iconic villains in all of Marvel. - Why Mutants? As the Marvel Universe grew, Stan Lee & Jack Kirby found it increasingly difficult to come up with unique origin stories for all super heroes and villains. Saying many were born with a mutant gene solved this issue for a lot of characters. - According to Marvel Database, there are currently over 80,000 characters in the Marvel Multiverse.
1:11:59 That was a phoenix (The Phoenix?), it will make sense to you guys later (it was a really big moment for people, who had read the comics or at least seen the cartoons).
Nightcrawler is one of just a few german superheroes besides Dr. Abraham Erskin (Captain America) and young Magneto. I love to see this. Germans are almost ever the villains. Nazis, Hydra, mad scientists and so on. Nightcrawler shows the heart-warming, selfless, christianity, and protective character of the germans. Its just cool to see the good side of the germans and their morals. The actor did by the way a great job in pronouncing german words. It wasn't really accurate but these were really hard words to pronounce. So it was a very good job.
Stan Lee created X-Men based from the Civil Rights movement. Professor Xavier is based from Martin Luther King Jr. And Magneto is based from Malcolm X. MLK took a more peaceful approach, and Malcom X was more of the aggressor.
Magneto is one of my favorite Marvel characters. He's really more of an anti-hero than a full on villain. The dynamic between him and Professor X is one of respect for each other and I can't wait for y'all to get his backstory so you can really understand him better.
This isn't a spoiler because the character hasn't been in any movies yet, but, in the comics, Rogue did end up with a boyfriend that she could touch. Remy (Gambit). He's an XMan and the energy that sourrounds his body makes him immune to rogues touch or something. I am hopeing we see an iteration of him in the future of the MCU. He's a cajun guy and he throws playing cards. it's a thing ;)

I’m pretty sure that he was supposed to be Mastermind.
“Why is he german though” is such a wild question lmao. He’s german because he’s german lol. Born in germany.
What I like about the X-Men characters is that no one is strictly "good" or "bad". Everyone has their motives. I'm looking forward to your reaction to #XMenFirstClass.
The metal guy is called colossus
I LOVE how you guys research terms and lore between movie/ show episodes. Shows dedicating
She shot the iron shavings into him during the bar bathroom scene, so he could yank it out as a weapon.
The opening scene of this movie is one the best action sequences in any comic movie ever
You guys are definitely going to enjoy this one.
Don't feel any way guys. Everyone loves Mystique and Magneto as much as they love the good Xmen. Especially this era.
In the Comics Nightcrawler is the son of Mystique and a Mutant named Azazel, (whom won't be introduced until X-Men First Class. Just rememberKurt's powers and you'llknow).
When Mystique is "grace" at the bar that is the actual actress without the makeup.
Wolverine can smoke as much as he wants. He heals so quick that it doesn't effect him.
Giant Size X-Men no-1#-also recruited Warpath,Banshee and Sunfire. Angel and Beast were also among Charle's 1st students.
@@kerry-j4m none of those characters have been introduced as of X2...
58:22 "I animalized your azz" is crazy 😂😂😂
No.
Wanda and Pietro are Magneto’s children.
You forgot Howard The Duck (1986).
“It comes up out of the basketball court…” I would have been like, “My guy, so you realize how crazy you sound?” 😂😂😂
Magneto is my favourite character in X men 😊
Everytime I see anything X-Men related, makes me can't wait to see Deadpool 3 even more
I can’t wait to see how yall interpret the X-Timeline. It’s easier to make sense of once you’ve seen ALL the films.
Remembering the book Magneto was reading but forgetting things like Magneto taking the helicopter cracked me up more than it should have.
can't wait till you get into the x-men first class movies
Days of a Futures past and First class are the best ones I would say this is the third best
@@jimjimjimmy7793 agreed
Hiope it's ok to get nerdy here, there's quite a few callbacks to the comic origins in this movie (if you're interested):
- The movie was hugely inspired by a popular X-Men comic "God Loves, Man Kills" - William Stryker is main villain but he's a church preacher in this, not a Military Scientist like the movie
- You asked why Nightcrawler is German - in the comics he's German and they just kept it from the comics
- When Nightcrawler talks to Mystique in that one scene: in the comics, Nightcrawler is Mystique's son in the comics, but the age differences are off in the movies so they just gave them a nice scene together :)
- The big muscle guy who turns metal is Colossus from the comics - awesome character (but he's Russian in the comics)
- The girl who lets out that loud screeching scream in the school is Siryn, daighter of Banshee
- The girl who walks through walls is Kitty Pryde, aka Shadowcat, she features in the third movie.
- In the comics, being a mutant was treated the same, as an allegory, for being gay - if you were day, you were shunned and mistreated by society, hence the question from Iceman's Mom "Have you tried 'not' being a mutant?" - always loved that line
1:12:00 - This thing under the water is a huge hint for fans of the comic "who are in the know" and if you don't know, I won't spoil it here.
Anyway, loved loved that you guys watched this and loved it. It's so great..... still stands up as an awesome superhero movie today. Really hope the MCU versions of the X-Men hold up so well too and that the stories live up to this standard. :)
Really love watching your reactions and love seeing you watch movies that I saw a whole 20 years ago at the cinema.... still can't believe they're that old :P
Thanks guys. See you in next one,
Wolverine always had the healing factor, super senses, and claws, but the claws used to be bone. Mutant powers are a little more interesting because they always have a drawback and aren't always good even, like some people just get purple fur and people hate them, not everyone gets the S-tier powers and even those usually have drawbacks like Rogue
easily 38? Wolverine was born in the late 1880's. He ages very slowly due to his healing factor 😂
Logan holding Scott is one of my favorite parts of any X-Men film.
IMO this is the B E S T X-Men movie until X-Men Days Of Future Past! The two BEST movies in the X-Men movies history! Love you guys and hope your 2024 is ROCKIN!
I love how X-Men are based out of my home of Westchester, New York and i can tell you, we definitely got some mutants up in this piece.
Can’t wait for X3 Whewww get ready !!!!
Mystique is Nightcrawler's (the blue guy who teleports) mom
For non-comic readers, Nightcrawler is Mystique's son.
You two are so goddamn adorable, watching your reactions is an absolute joy.
Nightcrawler is german but raised with a romani circus so kinda travelled everywhere before he joined the XMen
Great reaction! In some ways this one was my favorite of the 13 X-men universe films
In the comic books, magneto is Wanda’s father And Wanda is a mutant She’s from the X-Men comic books
The fire scene is very reminiscent of Firestarter.
Waiting for the best X3 reaction
In the comics, some crossover with the avengers
Jean is a nexus being - which is any person with the power and capability to drastically affect probability / reality and time
Wanda is also a nexus being
Wanda and Pietro are Magneto’s children
Storm and Black Panther get married
Rogue has the ability to fly because she steals Ms. Marvels power
There have been a bunch of avengers who have been in xmen and Vice versa
35:32 Jason Striker's gift is astroprojection, he he was putting those images of himself as a little girl in Charles' head.
When Charles and cyclops went to visit magneto, Charles asked magneto “what did you tell him?” And maybes to said “everything, you should’ve killed me when you had the chance!”
Also marvel has many different ways of giving people powers but the only way to be considered a mutant is to be born with the x gene that gives you powers.
That’s cool.
Also Wolverine’s claws were bone first, he always had them. Then the adamantium was bonded to his bones & them.
im pretty sure thats a spoiler
Magneto is one of my favorite Marvel characters. He's really more of an anti-hero than a full on villain. The dynamic between him and Professor X is one of respect for each other and I can't wait for y'all to get his backstory so you can really understand him better.
Wanda is the daughter of Megneto
'The Once and Future King' - Arthurian legend, Knights of the Round Table, the Holy Grail
Oh my god, you cant just ask someone why theyre german
Ever seen mean girls?
This isn't a spoiler because the character hasn't been in any movies yet, but, in the comics, Rogue did end up with a boyfriend that she could touch. Remy (Gambit). He's an XMan and the energy that sourrounds his body makes him immune to rogues touch or something. I am hopeing we see an iteration of him in the future of the MCU. He's a cajun guy and he throws playing cards. it's a thing ;)
Gambit is briefly in wolverine origin I believe it was, the one with shitty deadpool. He helps Logan by flying him out to strikers Island.
@@danielleyoung3133 Oh yea. I forgot the TEMU Gambit version. But he never met Rogue like in the comics. Was letting them know she wasn't always alone in the world
yeah he was in wolverine we saw it and he was a cool character! it’ll be out soon!
@@TheOctobersReact he's even cooler in the comics and animated shows, really hoping the mcu brings him into the movies cuz he's never gotten enough love
Wolverine was already a mutant but they made him stronger with the metal because they use mutants and superhumans in war and other combat reasons all throughout the Marvel comic lol. Logan is the main character in the movies but in the comics he’s not always front and center. They just choose him for some reason in the storyline
