    Pen and Ink is an awesome medium and doing space subject matter is my favorite thing to do in pen and ink. Its amazing though because you can experiment with the color of space. In some instances space isn't always black. I have seen countless animation and cartoons that were sci-fi and outer space was depicted as being blue in color which to me is an interesting choice of the artist creating an opening scene in an animated cartoon. There is just something about space that is very retro cool.

    Your art is simply amazing. I am trying to find an art teacher her in Dallas everything is so damn big to the point its almost impossible to find help. This is a very useful tip because I was always trying to learn how to draw space. But can you please tell me where I could learn how to shade and how could I possibly get ahold of that white pen you have their lol.

    Great tut. Actually I used to do it that way years ago; it's _still_ a way to go, but getting field background with marker or ink always seemed well...yuck! If you know what I mean. It's either too flat or too heavy. So...one day something occurred to me after attending a screen printing workshop and now I don't use markers and ink anymore to render outer space. I do all the objects as normal but _reverse_ the lighting; in other words, I draw all the illuminated and bright objects, including suns and stars BLACK. Then scan the image and invert the colors! No need for white paints or gels or heavy inconsistent markers strokes or saturating ink.

    • @Fernsherter
      @Fernsherter 11 років тому

      Hmm im not really sure why mine dry out so fast then? It's really probably me just using them a lot but i have a storage container and everything for them. Oh well, thank you very much for the information!

    • @alphonsodunn
      @alphonsodunn  11 років тому +2

      thanks so much..But I believe it is based on inexhaustible amounts of practice...but practice the right things and in the traditional way...no "how to draw in 5 days" type stuff lol...if you notice they best writers, read alot,,,and they read alot of the best writers. the best film makers watch alot of film and study all the great filmmakers...its takes work, discipline and an unwavering belief inyourself that you can do it

    are you an art teacher? because you really draw like one. thanks for the help. but i need to learn how to make stars with just a pencil. there are no tutorials and it almost seems impossible.

    • @alphonsodunn
      @alphonsodunn  10 років тому

      Alex Szczepaniak You can use an eraser or white conte, charcoal, or pastel...actually you could even combine mediums and use ink...just try out different stuff and see what works :-)

    • @WhosGotClass
      @WhosGotClass 10 років тому

      totally, its just erasers dont work that well, they smudge and once you smudge u can never go back. its also not that pure white your looking for. im pretty good at drawing, stars and pure white highlights just somewhat baffled me unless u had serious planning before the drawing, i havnt had much experience with pastel or charcoal, but i tried out a white out penas a substitute for the white gel pen and it actually works really well! because of this video i was able open up to a whole new world of drawing and tackle great ideas ive had! thanks again :)
