It’s true, my new Midea AC with 14,000 BTUs and 1200 SACC is the best portable AC I’ve ever purchased. I’ve never been able to cool my bedroom with temperatures over 100 degrees without the help of my central AC until I got the Midea.
This video does an amazing job at comparing the effectiveness of all these units, but one quality-of-life factor that I would have loved to seen evaluated was noise. In my old apartment, all the windows opened in a way that standard window units would not work, so I was forced to get a portable unit. However, the noise of my unit made it impossible for me to sleep well if it were in the same room, so I had to resort to leaving it in the living room and leaving my bedroom door open to minimize the noise while still getting some of its cooling effects. I would have loved to see data on the loudness of these units, both in terms of peak dB and in terms of change in dB when turning the compressor on/off
As someone who has to run one of these due to window units not being allowed in my apartment up here in Wyoming, let me give you a tip. Buy a good box fan. I leave mine in the living room as I only sleep in the bedroom and spend most of my time in the living room. I have a box fan at the entrance to the hallway to my bedroom and run it on low all the time. Not only does it keep it cool in the back it keeps the air circulating which makes it feel cooler. Moving air will always feel cooler than still air no matter what the temperature is and box fans are cheap.

In the video you mentioned that you should buy a portable AC with as much cooling capacity as possible (within your budget). I was under the impression that oversizing a unit was not a good idea and that in doing so you mitigate moisture removal and increase cycling of the compressor which can affect the life span of the compressor. My thinking on this subject may be old-school. I'm considering the Midea 14K heat/cool unit for a fairly large bedroom 350-375 Cu ft with an 18' vaulted ceiling. I'd like to go with a smaller Midea (12K), but I am unable to find one smaller that includes both heat and air and I'm worried if my assumptions about oversizing are correct, that I may regret the larger unit.
How can you tell which 4-in-1 portable air conditioner/heater will be in the best for getting maximum heat? Can you use the SACC to comparison-shop for heat efficiency?
Toshiba has the same models as Midea. Midea makes them for Toshiba. Usually $100 cheaper too. I got mine at Home Depot and used the $100 savings to buy the Home Depot 3 year warranty. I love mine and it keeps my room super cool. I do recommend using the cool mode with auto fan. It will change speeds when it reaches temperature. Using Auto mode is fine but make sure your temperature is set lower. Mine has a heater so if it makes room too cold the Auto mode turns on the Heater!!!. Crazy but this happened at night time. But in Cool mode this doesn't happen. Money well spent.
Two things I have learned from using. If temp is going to be over 100 that day set it at 70 or below so when it gets that hot your room still around 75. System runs but not on medium or high until room temp raises. If you have it at 75 my room is at 80 or above and the system has a hard time lowering room temp at high. Another way is to use my phone to turn on system a few hours before I get home if over 100. Set at 62 and room is at 75ish when I get home. Then I move temp to 70 to 75 and room stays cool and at medium fan. Also if changing from A/C to fan or another setting change it to new setting and temp you want and turn off for a minute. Then turn back on. For some reason if its hot outside or room is too cold the system will turn on heat to get to new temp. But if you turn off system always blows cold air. Mainly happens at night.
Aren’t theMidea dual hose unit higher SAAC because they are dual hose. But if the differential temperature between inside and outside is significant for either cooling or heating, you generally want a single hose unit?
I have the Midea Duo and the Whytner (Edgestar).. The Whytner is a beast.... Especially when it comes to heating.. The Midea gives out when outside temps are below 35. Not the Whytner..

By all accounts, it seems identical to the top model you ranked. I use an LG LP1419 IVSM at home, and so does my sister. My friend uses the Whynter ARC-1230WNH.
When dual inverters came out, he did a video on this when he reviewed the LG dual inverter, which he picked as the overall best when it came to compare other portable AC. I have the LG one he recommended but I feel like I need a stronger one so I ordered the idea one using his link

3600watt is around 300 amp hour. A 5000-6000btu ac will run about 1.5-2 hour on a full 100ah. So you'll be lucky to get 6-7 hours of ac with that unit if working at full capacity. It's all basic math see what to wattage on the ac is and do the 12v math conversion on amps it will tell u the draw. Ohms law
Absolutely. The inverter inside the Midea means it slowly ramps up the compressor, so it doesn't have that massive inrush current a traditional AC does.
Where is the Toshiba RAC-PT1412HVWRU? Is it not the same as the Midea? Confused as I need something tomorrow and the Toshiba is same day pickup vs waiting a day or 2 for the Midea with Amazon.
Single hose portable A/Cs are terrible as they consistently draw hot and humid air into the the room being cooled by virtue of them creating negative air pressure in the space they operate in (that air they blow to the outside has to come from somewhere). Would definitely recommend going for one with a dual hose design like the Midea Duo.
@@TheRealRenn He has another video that explains the good and bad between the two and how the SACC score takes that into account. So a higher 1 hose SACC score is better than a low SACC score 2 hose.
Can you use a window room AC unit (5000 to 8000 BTU range) outside as a freestanding spot AC? I do repairs on my vehicles in the driveway and thought an inexpensive AC unit on a roll cart could provide 'near space' spot cooling for far less than true spot AC units.They are less than $200 and is they even worked half ass that coolness could be useful. I think they could but have no clue and you seem to be very knowledgeable.
After reading the reviews on Amazon especially in terms of return shipping costs ranging in the hundreds (i.e. missing parts or damaged during shipping), it's not looking great. Plus in most apartments we have the casement windows aka "swivel" style not compatible with any of these portable AC units with only sliding up/down low hanging windows in mind, the Midea included. The Midea's large, inflexible hose based on reports makes the matter even more complicated. We basically have to roast in the meantime and pray for winter.

putting aside the fact that I've heard complaints in other reviews about the brackets being fragile, if Midea's portable unit is as good as their window U unit he's right to heap praise on it. I've never owned a nices AC in my entire life.
Mileage varies. I have a 5 year old Black & Decker portable AC that's still going strong. Only issues I've had with it are that it can't handle a 15' exhaust hose, and I've had to replace the power cord 3 times to date. My house's working is a bit shit which explains the power cords melting. Not sure about the hose length issue though.
People do not read the instructions. So they are not set in the correct mode. They also try to use a portable unit to cool to large of an area. They need to have enough units for the space. If used properly they are great.

why cant you use 2 hoses on tilt and turn windows?

Dont buy the black decker if you want something that'll last more than 2 years.
