    Great job man !!! Awesome video 🤙 I really like the way you took more time and different ways to explain grain run out because I believe grain run out as opposed to grain orientation is most often misunderstood 👍

      Appreciate it! I saw you picked up the council tool fallers axe as well, did you get that through the whiskey river sale? Good to hear from you.

      @@urbanlumberjack you’re welcome man !! And no I didn’t get it during the sale, I got it a while before the sale at normal price which is still a great deal. I just finally got around to using it lol

      Love your channel. You go into a lot of detail which I appreciate. The MLB study is interesting. Players have had their own theories on what makes a good bat since the very beginnings of baseball. For the MLB or Louisville Slugger to wait until until 30 years ago to study the issue is way too late.
      Please keep up the good work.

    Not sure what it is but I can already tell you'll eventually build up a good following. Great and useful information in a format that's enjoyable to listen to. Keep it up bud, love your stuff.
    P.s. still waiting for that CT velvicut to get here, found a pretty good price but shipping seems slow. Can't wait

      Thank you for the encouraging words! I’m still trying to figure out how to do the whole UA-cam thing. I hope you enjoy your axe! Those Velvicut falling axes are serious pieces of steel.

    Nice to see some else refer to axes with baseball terms. Played and coached baseball for a long time and as i learn more about axemenship I am seeing lots a parallels between the two. Not just with the sticks but in swinging form as well. Enjoying the content, keep it up!

      Thanks for the encouragement! The axe world owes a lot to baseball for sure, especially for those studies on grain orientation.

    Hey, this is a really informational video. I’m really glad I watched it. Where do you recommend buying your axe handles? It seems like my local hardware stores doesn’t have a very good selection. Do you have any online recommendations?
    Thank you

      Thanks for watching! Sorry about the late response. I get my handles from whiskey river. They’re great. Also, Hoffman handles is ok. There are some Amish guys that sell on eBay too that I’ve had good luck with but hard to know who I’m buying from so I don’t do that a lot

    Thanks for the video. I recently ordered some axe handles online and one came with an occlusion down near the palm swell which had me a bit worried. It was nice to hear your thoughts and that it is most likely not going to be a problem.

      For sure, thanks for watching and your input. My feeling has always been if you can’t feel a difference in wood texture it’s probably just cosmetic.

    Damn... had a bark inclusion on an Ash handle for my Rinaldi American boys axe I split the other day but didn't cost me anything so will just carve another one. The piece has a natural curve to it so will end up kind of a 7 shape I think which should be interesting with the long bit.

    • @urbanlumberjack
      @urbanlumberjack  2 роки тому

      That’s a bummer! Those inclusions can be real weak spots, especially if they are up near close to the head

    • @ajaxtelamonian5134
      @ajaxtelamonian5134 2 роки тому

      @@urbanlumberjack yeah the inclusion pretty much ran up most of the handle and it just split apart.
