    I owe you a huge apology as I have only just and foolishly now taken a look at your website as I only use your original software on my wife's Apple tablet and it had not been updated...you explained and have credit to the original concept of the knot.
    I agree with what you said in using either or either name...there are a couple of other knots I have seen that have been transported over to shoe lacing...one is the grass bend and the other is zepplin bend on muddy work boots.

      I did indeed create the Ian Knot, more than half my lifetime ago.

    Do you have a shoe collection?

    • @ProfShoelace
      @ProfShoelace  10 років тому

      I don't have a serious shoe collection, just one or two pairs that are interesting from a shoelace perspective.

    So be a gent and give credit to abk for the Ian's secure knot as this is detailed for the same purpose,I have every respect for what you do and the work you have done just I strongly object to renaming of something that already has a name,I thought many years ago I had come up with two knots unknown I was subsequently proven wrong as they where a divisor of something else and although I still do knot know what they are called o nearly call them by the function I use them for.and please bring your app to android I purchased it many moons ago on Apple but as my wife has the only Apple tablet it was of little use to me.

      david lacey I *have* mentioned on my website that the "Ian's Secure Shoelace Knot" is the same as the "Double Slip Knot" in the Ashley Book of Knots. I wasn't aware of that when I named it. People are most welcome to use the original, technical title. That said, my newly coined title seems to better describe its function. It's a bit like flora and fauna (ie. plants or animals). People in the field prefer to use Latin names (eg. Notechis), whereas most other people prefer to use common, descriptive names (eg. Tiger snake).

      david lacey I have considered bringing my app to Android. Just need to find the time, plus a new, faster computer for the development work.

    I am still slightly annoyed at you claiming credit for a knot that was out a long time before and its listed in the abk as a handcuff knot...granted it was not used for shoelaces but it is still the same...if I was to tie a bowline with my feet it would still be a bowline as a finished product..you bow is just a bow just tied in a shorter fashion as described over a hundred years ago.

      david lacey I think you're confusing the Handcuff Knot with the Tom Fool Knot, which is most similar to my Ian Knot. As for your criticism, I only claim credit to having invented my knot, not to it being unique. Consider this: the Ashley Book of Knots contains countless examples of two or more knots with the same core technique but with different names because they came from different walks of life. The Ian Knot and the Tom Fool knot are just one more example.

      I hear your criticism, and in fact I've covered this subject in detail on the "Ian Knot Technical Info" page on my website (UA-cam won't let me post a link here).

      I hope that when you *do* learn to tie, it will be with the "Ian Knot".
