  • CTEK provided us with the new Smartpass system to trial and review. Once we eventually found someone who understood it and had it installed we have been able to test this for 4 months.
We find it brilliant, it manages power more efficiently as well as providing more power input.

Did you change the wiring after this video? With those tiny cables, your cables could catch fire anytime the batteries are empty and you start the engine. Those look like 10mm2 cables and they are definitely not suitable for the 120A the smartpass alone can provide.

Yeah I agree. The voltage drop would be enormous too, thus the charger wouldn't be running optimally. The manual states the smartpass should use 35mm2 to 50mm2 cable, depending on length from starter.

Hi, thanks for sharing your experience with the CTEK! I'm looking into purchasing it, but still haven't made up my mind. I was planning to put up a large solar panel array, but it seems that the CTEK combo can only take up to 300W or 25A input, is that right? What is your solar setup like? Thank you!

Hi Christian. We have around 400W with our 3 panels into 2 batteries.
This video is from before the CTEK was installed but you can see the panels on top - ua-cam.com/video/wi3hzVNlDyY/v-deo.html
We have been using it now for about 12 months and it works great, only complaint is it switches off every now and again and I have to disconnect it and reconnect again. Otherwise we generate heaps of power which we need because we have a lot of equipment that we use. :)
