people throw that "i love you" phrase around like confetti at a party. But when Dawn says it in each of her videos i FEEL loved. Perhaps it is her faith, perhaps it is that she has decluttered her life enough to find room in her heart to love us. i don't know. what i DO know is the honesty and love is REAL! i am humbled ...

Also after all the fun of the cake-making I was caught off guard when you said, "If you ever see us in public please say hi" because I imagined that happening and my eyes instantly welled up -- I'm quite certain I would walk up to you and tear up before I'd be able to get any words out! Regarding your cakes... I hope you found “homes” for all of the extras- maybe a soup kitchen or the guys at the fire

We do soups for our extended family's Christmas. Every year I make Irish potato soup. I never come home with leftovers. Everyone experiments and makes a new soup but not me and many of my neices and nephews will only eat my soup. Having a set menu really does make my life so much easier.

I’m a sucker for those super intricate Nordicware Bundt pans! One trick I read years ago to prevent sticking that sounds CRAZY but works perfect every time: instead of just spraying the pan (or spraying and flouring), you should spray and sugar the pan with regular granulated sugar! NEVER sticks and leaves the most glorious crust on the outside of the cake. Even those intricate Bundt pans.

Hey Dawn, I watch your Videos for some years now and I want to thank you for all the effort you put in your content! There are 3 hacks for Bundt cakes I'd like to share with you.
1.) To avoid the sticking, oil or butter the pan and afterwards spread some breadcrumbs over the oil/butter.
2.) To test if the cake is baked properly put a wooden stick into it. If there remains wet fluid on the sick after you pulled the stick out again, it needs more time in the oven.
3.) Don't smash the cake on the plate, instead lay the plate upside down on the pan and switch both of them together.
    Greetings from Germany 🙂

Oh, you can totally use a cake mix for the tres leche cake! 😄 Just bake a yellow cake mix according to directions. Poke holes in cake, mix sweetened condensed milk can and an evaporated milk can and pour over. I quit putting the heavy cream in as it makes it too soggy. refrigerate for 2 hrs at least and put cool whip on top and done. Sooo easy! I learned this from my cousin who lived in Costa Rica, so it’s legit! 😂

Days filled with one failure after another are growth days. You wouldn't be where you are without them. If you think back to where you started all those years ago, with one frustrating issue after another that wouldn't allow you to clean the house or manage your finances, you'll see that the "fail after fail" days were the best learning experiences anyone could have.
You're doing great! We love you! Thank you for being a genuinely kind and honest person we can depend upon to tell us the truth each and every day. Even when it's just a day full of problems. Your successes as well as your failures help us grow too. Keep up the good work. :)

Dawn, I don’t normally make Bundt cakes, but from my experience as a baker for the past 48 years of my life, this is what I would try.
Try Crisco Vegetable shortening, the solid white kind, not the oil. Put some on a paper towel and apply liberally to your cake pan. Then flour your pan. You may wish to use cake flour as it is finer than most flours. Get it on every surface that connects with the cake mixture. It may show up a bit on your cake, but it should help.
Also check for doneness if the cake is pulling away from the pan. Also inserting something like a toothpick but longer since it is such a dense cake. Maybe a bamboo shush-kabob skewer. Insert all the way into the middle. If it comes out clean it is done.
To prevent cakes falling, walk lightly and don’t slam doors or anything like that.
    Hopefully that helps.

I make three Leches with boxed white cake mix all the time. Use butter instead of oil, and usually use the whole egg instead of the whites only (either way on the eggs works for me). For me timing when you pour on the milks is key. I let the cake set for about 3 to 5 minutes. These cakes turn out amazing. Just as good as when I make the batter from scratch. That being said... not sure I could pull off three Leches in a bunt. It would be a milky mess.

For my Tres Leches cakes, I use a cheap basic white box mix. They are drier so they soak up the cake better. I will sometimes separate and whip the egg whites and then fold them into the box cake batter if I want it to be extra light and fluffy. I also only use the condensed and evaporated milks to reduce the liquid amount. Then I top it with heavy whipping cream topping and sprinkle cinnamon. My husband is from Mexico and loves it.

Mix up and keep in a jar room temp. I smear that by hand into all my pans before baking (except for the recipes that say no oiling) and never once have I had a cake stick since using it. I've made a lot of cakes. You can oil, grease or butter the inside of the cake pan, then add a couple of tablespoons of flour into the pan and shake it around until all of the inside is covered with flour. Then dump out any extra flour that didn't stick. That preps the pan so the cake will release easily... hopefully. With flat bottom pans, I always use parchment paper, but still oil and flour the pan first.

You can butter your pan and sprinkle flour or confectioner sugar over the pan and dump the excess before baking for a less expensive option. Learned that and many other tips from Alton Brown!

I've had trouble w/my similar bundt pan at times too. The dark color metal conducts heat more easily, so it doesn't need to bake as long. I usually butter & flour the pan so it comes out easier. Also, if you're ever in a pinch & don't have time to bake another cake right away, you can turn it into a trifle. 💖

For tres leche, Just use a box cake and then poke the holes and pour only sweetened condensed milk over it-without the other milks…
We also do this with a chocolate cake mix and then we add heath bar bits to the top, then cool whip and then more heath bits!
On the Milky Way, maybe just swirl the melted mixture into the cake mix after it’s in the pan.

Hi Dawn, I like very much job you do on your channel. I write from Europe so I don't know exactly what kinde recipe you are looking for, but I have the fastest and easiest recipe, and you don't need much cleaning after all ;).
    250 g sugar + vanilla sugar (~10g)
    4 eggs
Put all to the mixer and mix together a few minutes. Then put there
250 ml whipping cream and mix for a while. Then put there 250 g flour with baking powder and mix gently with a spatula. 80% of this put tho the form to the rest you could add 1 or 2 tsp of cacao powder, mixed and then put around the form. I that's all. You backed it as long as the stick is dry.

If you think your cake is not releasing because of the sugar, consider immersing the bundt pan into warm water, almost up to the rim, for a few minutes, before you flip it onto your cake plate. The temperature of the water will soften the sugar.

Thank you so much for sharing! I love that you are willing to share your fails and exemplify how to work through tough times! 🎉 Life is not all easy and perfect. I have been working with my family to find ways to find good in our problems and failures. Thanks for sharing. And I’m so excited for your book! I already downloaded it and I can’t wait to start baking. I tell my family all the time about you and how I’m working to own the minimal amount of baking and cooking tools. I make every meal, including my bread from scratch, so I own a ton of gear! But I have given away my second set of serving wear and a bunch of old things that I just don’t use. Keep up the good work and sunshiny attitude. You are a blessing to so many people.

Hi Dawn, Years ago I took a cake decorating class at our local community college. The teacher gave us a great trick for keeping cakes from sticking in the pans. Mix 1 cup Crisco oil, 1 cup Crisco Shortening, and 1 cup flour together with a mixer. Mix till smooth. Keep refrigerated and it will last for a long time. I usually keep mine in a disposable plastic container. Use a pastry brush to “paint” the pans. Growing up, my kids, even when they were very young, loved to paint the pans. 😊

Yeah! I love the Friday videos and I love baking...I have tons of baking pans, have done cake decorating for friends and family parties and weddings and one thing I decluttered from my full kitchen was my bundt pan. Lol. 😂😂 I also don’t plan on becoming a minimalist in my baking at this time. It brings joy to me when I try new recipes and bake a variety of different things...

Tresleche is usually made in a sheet pan and served out of the pan, so not surprised it stuck.😓 I do use baking spray it really works well, maybe spray a little extra in the bottom and don't let the cake cool so long before turning it out of the pan.

Baker's Joy baking spray works very well. It helps the cakes not stick to the pan and it already has flour in it.

I'm so glad you tested the baking spray. The frustration of having a wonderful cake stick is so annoying. I finally gave up my bundt pans and opted for tube pans because you can always use wax paper at the bottom and avoid the sticking. I'm excited about your book though!! I'm gonna buy one

Please add some butter in your pan, melt it and then once melted twirl it around and immediately coat with plain flour. You'll never have another cream stick ..but all areas must covered in flour.

I always used shortening to grease my cake pans. Then I dust the pan with flour. I've not had a problem, especially if I cool it enough. I never use cooking spray. It does leave a residue on pans.

I use very finely sifted breadcrumbs to keep cakes from sticking. It sounds weird but grind up plain white breadcrumbs in a blender then sift. You won't see it on your cake but your cake won't stick to the pan. It works especially well for really intricate pans. If you look at old cookbooks from before the era of non stick coatings that is what they used. Love your channel!

To make the tres leches cake from a box the trick is in the process . Do separate the egg whites and fluff them to meringue point . Separate it and mix the other ingredients . Then fold the egg whites with the rest . Try not to over mixed . You need the air from the eggs to make the cake so fluffy . When is baked turn it and then add the 3 milks . Is supposed to be wet . Then you can add the frosting that you made that looks white and fluffy . Put it in a bag and cut the end. And frost side to side around the bund cake . Add cherries on top . Hope this helps!

Try this. Use half melted Milky Way. The other half cut into large chocolate chip size pieces. (Smaller) then coat with flour or cake mix. That will help suspend your chocolate pieces within your cake without sinking, enabling the sugars to sink and stick to your pan. Good luck.
