    How many street workers does it take to calibrate a paving machine? A dozen or so to stand around and watch a guy with a shovel wack the million dollar machine.

      BadGovinArk They must have a government employee union. Leaning on shovels is a time-honored union work practice.

    That is a top of the line recycler. The only problem is the City of LA got caught and rounded up guys not trained on that machine and they do not know how to adjust it. It appears it was sitting for a year, it probably also needs a thorough servicing. You cannot take a Ferrari out of the garage after sitting for a year and expect it to run properly.

    • @elevate32767

      They've never seen a machine like that in Mexico before, that's why nobody in the City of LA knows how to operate it.

    We have those machines in NYC. They are really good at doing the repaving of the messed up NYC streets after the hard winters here. Those people just don't know how to work the machine. I hope they don't blame the manufacturer and stop using it and go back to the old ways of wasting money with slower machines.

    • @nicknick3683

      Complicated machines seem like junk to those who don't know how to use them. With something like this I'm guessing maintenance is very important. Knowing what everything does, and keeping all the parts cleaned and lubed is the first battle, after that it's gonna take some time and playing with things before developing technique and skill. It will be a very expensive at first but once in full production it could be the city's new favorite tool.

    • @cryangardner
      @cryangardner 6 років тому +3

      These are in fact asphalt recycling machines, not hot mix machines, so someone acquainted with the normal paving process wouldn't automatically know how to use one. These machines do have minor breakdowns from time to time, but in this case id say its either from opporator error or sitting for so long that something small malfunctioned.

      bpj6422 the concept of unions is great but in practice its nepotism and dumb policies that maintain the status quo. Running a small sawmill your profits are directly tied to how much work and thinking you put in to avoid having your people and equipment breaking down

    • @cryangardner
      @cryangardner 6 років тому +3

      Youd be suprised how this actually works. I'm a union road worker. Between inspectors, superintendents, safety guys, compaction testers, project managers, and other random people who look in their book to tell you how to do your job- there end up being more people on the job that dont touch a tool or machine, and dont work for the union or contractor, than people who are actually doing the paving. When you see a bunch of guys standing around on a paving job, you can rest assured that if there is asphalt there and the machines are running then those dudes standing around are not laborers or opporators.

    Good work CBS! Bad for equipment to sit dormant like that. They will not be able to calibrate unless it is used and the operators become familiar with it. Should of found an abandoned mall or factory parking lot to practice on vs a real street though. But getting it out and powered up is the first step.

    I agree this was a complete waste of money and the money could have gone to other things like schools, but it costed the taxpayer less than $1 so it wasn't that much of a kiss for the taxpauer

      Well, I don't know about "A LOT" of people. but 1.3m would certainly would help a lot more people than that thing has been.
