So good to hear discussions about books from my halcyon days of collecting during the Copper Age. Hearing names like American Flagg, Dreadstar, Comico Comics, First Comics, Eclipse, Blackthorne, seeing all of those old classic Dave Stevens covers brings me right back. I still have a first issue of the Rocketeer signed by Stevens. Since those signings were never witnessed back then who knows if it's worth anything but I'm glad I still kept my copy. A fantastic artist who definitely was taken too soon. Oddly, I always pronounced Comico as 'Cuh-meeko'. No idea why. We didn't have anything to go on and I never heard a single person speak that comic company's name out loud so I came up with my own pronunciation of it. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one that never knew how to pronounce that publisher's name. Great call with 'Mage', John. Loved that series and Matt Wagner's work back in the day. Fortunately, I held onto all of my copies of that Mage run. Was a big Grendel fan as well. Mage is absolutely a story that every modern comic collector should read at some point if they never have. I remember waiting and waiting for a sequel that never came...until many years later. Now you can read it all in one go with the collected volumes of both volumes.
My choice for unsung old series from the Copper Age would be Bill Willingham's wonderful book 'Elementals' (Vol 1). Long before The Boys, before he had a hit with 'Fables', and not long after the debut of 'Watchmen', Willingham stormed the 1980s comic scene with his exceptional adult take on the superhero genre with 'Elementals', released under the Comico banner. Can't speak much about the later volumes but his initial run of that title, Vol. 1, was outstanding. Sadly, the Elementals series has never really gotten the repackaging and reverence in the modern age that it deserves. I'm sure the individual issues are available but I never heard about any decent, quality repackage or reissue of that series. Perhaps there are some legal issues at play with the defunct Comico that prevent Willingham from putting out some sort of reprint of that old material. Maybe he just disowned it. Who knows. If you only know Willingham's work from old fantasy art he did for the game company TSR, or if you are only familiar with his work on 'Fables', track down old issues of Elementals Vol. 1 and enjoy yourself.
Great content, guys. I'm only now discovering your channel and will absolutely be checking out more of your videos.

Richard, did you get back the Cherry Poptart from CGC yet? Aside from the wait times at CGC I am interested in whether you got the 9.8 you were looking for.
