Thank you very much for your description of the San Diego comicon. For those of us who do not pay to be members, it would have been nice to have seen some of the floor and had you walked around with your cameras. I very much enjoy seeing comic book Booth from people like yourselves who have the benefit of attending these larger shows. The most enticed booth at San Diego must be the heritage auction booth. In years past, they have had some epic books displayed. I can only imagine what they had this year. Either way, thank you for the little bit that you did. It was very valuable.

It's funny there's an infamous iron man 1 cgc 9.8 listed on whatnot for $60 but the seller is on vacation so you can't buy it😂. Has to be driving the fomo crew batty
I agree with Richard 100%. The CBCS labels are now the most attractive and smart slab labels.
The problem with the PSA label is that it works for cards because they are normally just put away, rarely displayed prominently. Comic slabs are regularly displayed on walls, so presentation is critical. PSA label reminds me of 1st gen CGC label, regarded as the ugliest.
I know I'm fully immersed in the Bronze and Modern Gods-verse when i saw the RDJ news and my first thought was "I wonder what Richard thinks about this".
I'm also glad that John does convention math like I do. Also known as "what I tell my wife i spent", convention math is when you're certain you spent 300 dollars, when the reality is you spent over 500.
I’m going to have to respectfully disagree on the Doom casting, I’m just really confused by Downey Jr, making a return to the MCU in this role? Post Deadpool & Wolverine how are the next movies not X-Men and with Fantastic Four how is Doom not launched in that movie? This just feels like a misstep and that we’re going backwards. I’m all for alternate timeline/ universe Dooms eventually, but (for me) this feels like stunt casting. Avengers and a return of the Russo brothers just seems like Feigie trying desperately to recapture the lost magic of the pre-COVID MCU? 🤔
Pretty terrible idea for sure. More confusing than anything. Using the multiverse to make weak stories seems to be Marvel's MO these days.
Was just talking to my buddies about this. I think they have seen the drop off of excitement/love for the more recent stuff post end game and they are thinking if they can bring back RDJ it will respark people to get people talking and excited about marvel stuff again. They need the name and the shock and awe of oh shit rdj is back!
I am jealous you got to go. Thanks for the updates. From Aussie I was fortunate enough to go to two SDCC around 2008, 2009. 1 Aussie Dollar was pretty close to 1 US Dollar. I had the time of my Life. Came back with a suitcase of comics. That was a fun customs chat. The only mistake I made was trying to get the Blackest Night Green Lantern Chase Figures by Graphitti. You had to get in a line for hours and then draw the right raffle ticket out of bag to buy one. They released only 1 figure per day, so if you missed out on a day you could not get the set. After wasting so much time on the first day I gave up spent my time on the fun Stuff. The Panel that sticks in my mind was Mad Magazine with all the old Guys (old Farts?) Which was hilarious. The other thing, as I was retailer at the time and ordered comics published by Radical comics. Got free tickets to see a Gene Simmons concert at the Hard Rock cafe there.

Once there are no rules and characters can appear and disappear with no reason or consequence, everything loses significance. Didn't Tony get killed off, and now we're supposed to believe in the old "but alternate universe Tony is alive" storyline? And he's evil! This is Days Of Our Lives level drama!
exactly, Mutiverse and time travel just drives me insane! Just seems a bit lazy IMHO.
I believe people are looking at the wrong comic for the story for RDJ as Doom. It probably will be the What If? issue where Victor and Tony swapped minds where Victor is in Tony's body and vice versa. That is the way Marvel deal with the issue with why Dr. Doom looks like Tony (aka RDJ).

So it's just fan speculation that the movie will draw from this Infamous Iron Man series.....
I've heard the same thing about San Diego from other UA-camrs who attended, that it's more a pop culture convention than a predominantly comics event. Which incidentally is the same for the two Aussie cons, 90% pop culture (animation voice actors, film and series actors, Funko presentations, few comics dealers).
Best comic purchase: John's G.I. Combat issue. That cover says so much.

I wonder if Iron Man 150 will get more of the attention that it deserves. Sure it’s a trope of a cover and not necessarily a key, but it’s a classic cover nonetheless featuring both characters. I’ve always thought it was a little underrated.
I'm not surprised that Disney didn't do more for the Acolyte at the convention. Like you said, Disney spent a lot of money on this show. Why pour more money down a rat hole?

My question is this: If RDJ (Tony Stark) is playing Doom, why would the book where Victor von Doom becomes Iron Man be the book to collect? It's the opposite of what would play out on screen. From what I read, Marvel's upcoming Doom storyline is going to do the heavy lifting for the movie storyline. That's the material to speculate on.
At the shop today opinions were mixed. We had a lot of calls asking about the infamous iron man book and the exiles 23 from the speculator crowd. Yea I’m happy I made bank on y’all. However not many seem interested in Rdj being Doctor Doom. The Disney fanbois don’t seem to get it. We needed a real doctor doom, not another iron man rdj clone.
I've been to San Diego a couple of times. To the zoo, not the con.

The problem with PSA is that they will grade counterfeit cards with a legit signature. They should refuse to slab a counterfeit card. So they are starting on the wrong foot already.
