    Evel was always telling people to believe in themselves and dream big . Think what you want about him . But no one can deny he is and was the greatest showman of all time . I am so thankful to have grown up watching this man in his prime . God Bless Evel Knievel !

    Others imitated him, dressed like him, even broke his records. But nobody, nobody was a better showman or bigger personality. He had it all, lost it all, got back up as always and kept going until the end.

      Even with all the mind blowing jumps Robbie made, he never equated himself to Evel. Evel broke bones, Robbie broke records. Best documentaries: "Being Evel," and "Chasing Evel: The Robbie Knievel story. Robbie was a better rider by far, better equipment, made jumps Evel missed. All that aside, there was only one Evel.

      @@gregv79 being obligated to use those heavy old Harleys was no advantage. With better, lighter equipment, probably could have done even more. But it took brass balls to attempt some of those stunts on what he had. People remember the epic crashes, it was part of the draw. But he also completed a whole lotta jumps.

    He is spot on about talking and listening to old people.My whole life when ever possible I took the time to talk to them.You can learn more about life from them ,more than any book!I have to thank this man because when he took off in his sky cycle in 1974 I was 12 and I tied a rope on to the back of my bike to a big wheel with my little brother on it.The plan was for him to hit the ramp ( a board that I leaned against a garbage can on its side ) and he would fly into the air and land on the other ( can with a board ) on the other side.After a lot of talking him into it ,I peddled as fast as I could and he hit the ramp and flew into the air and he hit the other side to short and wiped out just like Evel Knevel did! THANK YOU EVEL for the good times I had.

    I grew up watching his jumps on TV. I'm surprised he lived this long. The man was dying. He just wanted to share what he learned in life. There's nothing wrong with that. Even if nobody agrees with the things he said... he was an American, and speaking freely is what being an American is all about. Can't help but feel bad for him. At least he's accepted his past bad behavior and addressed it. Some folks go to their grave never saying they were sorry for things. I'm happy for him that he found some peace towards the end of his life.

    • @roxannemoser
      @roxannemoser 5 років тому +3

      And what an awesome God we have! So forgiving! Evel got his name from a guard in jail. Evel was a hardened criminal, robbed and stole everything that wasn't tied down. When he started jumping motorcycles, he hadn't accepted Christ. He just wanted a different life, other than being a criminal. He had a wife and children and he wasn't good at holding jobs. You know, the ground is level at the foot of the cross. My own sins are great. But to know God's grace and forgiveness through Jesus Christ has made me the person I want to be. I accepted Christ in 1978. In 1994, something tragic happened, and I turned my back. But, God never turned His back on me!

I held the distance record by accident by way of my worst accident when I hit the ground at 214' on a 100' jump, beating the current record by TWO feet. Don't look it up in Guiness. Like crashing don't count! I traveled half way around the world, made an honest living and have precious, magic memories in-tact all because of my adopted Godfather Evel! I owe you a huge portion of my whole life Evel. It was amazing trying to be like Superman for a little while! Thank you and thank you for your genuine courage in a world full of cowards and fakes! What I find funny is people who say what Evel's faults were, or how he treated people. Unless you were with him 24/7 you don't know shit in terms of what your flapping your choppers about. Myself, I don't know how he was behind the limelight. But then again, none of us do, unless we were with him. That said, all the majority of us have nothing more than opinions of him. At least I admit it. I do know 2 things. The first, bikes today, are way more lighter than those that Evel used. He even said as much.So had he had those bikes back in his day, who knows how far he could jump. And the 2nd thing I know, is in my eyes, he will always be the best. But as far as people flapping there choppers about what a "bad" person he was, unless you were with him, (which I highly doubt) than you don't know shit. And if you don't like it, who gives a shit. R.I.P. Evel Knievel
