Man when I was a kid Evel Kenivel was like a superhero to me! I used to watch him On ABC's Wide World of Sports. He was Elvis On a motorcycle. A true American original! Thank you for helping keep Evel's old truck and trailer alive!
Danny Rumbles they should put Evel and Elvis on the road together. Maybe have Elvis's fat ass strapped to the back of a motorcycle singing "heartbreak hotel" while Evel jumps over a holiday inn.
Interesting video; I few fun facts; Evil used to buy and run Kenworths for several years and pick them up at the Kansas City Kenworth plant. My dad was the Kansas City Kenworth plant General Manager and met Evil once or twice when he picked up his new truck and said he was a really nice guy. A year or two later I asked my dad why Evil was running a Mack truck. He responded "Hell he wanted a free truck and I wasn't going to give him one for free!" My dad went on the to say that Mack did give him a free truck & thats the only reason why he has one. But! I always wondered if for one free truck a year, he probably would have sold another 100+ a year from all the publicity Kenworth would have recieved from Evil having a KW in his hey day! Just a little insight I though I would share. p.s I lost my dad in 2001, I think guys like him that grew up in the depression had a hard time thinking that it made sense to give away a $70,000 truck just for marketing!! But I still think I had the best dad a guy could have, to teach me the value of a buck among many other things. Love you & still think of you many time every day Dad.
After all these years it is sad to see this truck. I worked at Mack Western at Hayward, California. I helped build this TRUCK! Evel would come into the plant quiet often. Was very friendly to the employees. One day he told all employees to call their spouses to come to the plant. He paid for our time off and put on a little show for us. In his cane he did carry tubes of Wild Turkey..
Indeed, Evel was the man back in those days and all boys wanted to see this man do his thing wherever he went. I'm glad I grew up in a time when he was in his prime and it was a real privilege seeing his life throughout the years :) RIP Evel Knievel...
WelshWidgetMan2O1O I agree, the kids today are too lazy to ride a bike like we did when I was a kid. We had imagination and spent hours outside.Today, kids are wrapped up in staring at some electronic device that keeps them tied to a couch.
@@louieenos3091 Very Well Said! We barely went inside to eat, we spent virtually every waking hour outdoors, and we used to use that thing called imagination, whereas a lot of today's kids couldn't find that with both hands and google!
That truck was built at the Mac plant in Hayward Ca. I even got to work on it ,I worked at a company that did work for Mac they brought his old Kenworth over and the new Truck and we took the box off the back and put it on the new Mac,when Evil picked up the truck at the Hayward plant he put on a show out in the parking lot for the employee's ,I got to go to it too
Thank Yall for doing such a great job of keeping it simple and oldschool like it was ..That Rig means allot To many others including my self whom use to watch every min of ever jump She is not a showqueen yet but she is alive and she is back on her own rubber and she is a one off Custom build and is rolling history
I had Evel give me personal tour of that truck an trailer then we took motorcycles up Mt. Hood where we had dinner at ski resort. We rode back to Gladstone Oregon. But Evel partied a little too much an they trailered his bike back to this truck! We all had Great time an he really enjoyed himself! Thanks, Tim
Finally hear some of what was done for the restoration, figured they replaced the cab. When you see stories like this, you never can find info on the restoration itself. I'm more interested in that.
I saw the episode of American Trucker that showed them finding and retrieving this truck. I was shocked that it had been forgotten and neglected, but excited that someone was going to do something with it.
still recall his crash..and the rag doll slow motion of him tumbling after he jumped the water fountain in Las Vegas...incredible guy to keep getting back on his bike..
Evel Truck is a legend almost as much as Evel Knievel is a legend. I remember the American Trucker and the two Shipping Wars episodes where Evel Truck was moved. In the American Trucker episode Evel Truck was rusting away in Florida that it had to be moved. Skeet Towing and Shipping Wars picked it up and brought it here to North Carolina where it was taken apart and the trailer restored. The next leg Shipping Wars and Skeet came back for the next move Evel Truck had to be taken to Elizabeth New Jersey where the cab and floor were replaced. Back in North Carolina the trailer was gutted and the floor was replaced. Then Evel Truck hit the road and went to Macungie where it was given a full overhaul and then the truck hit the road to it's final resting place The Evel Knievel Museum in Topeka.
That truck was built at the Mac Truck plant in Hayward Ca. ,I worked for a company that did work for Mac ,I helped put the side boxes and some other stuff on the truck way back then which was a thrill for me since he was my hero. Got invited to the plant when Evel put on a show for the employee's then that week end at Fremont Drag strip he jumped 10 Mac Truck's, He overshot the landing ramp landed on flat ground did a few tank slappers but saved it
That same truck sat over Harmon and koval behind a fenced in area of a large lot for a few years here in las vegas back in the early 90s . I always wondered were it ended up at and happy to see it being taken care of in the right way its rolling history of an amazing man!
I remember when the Mack trucks that Evel had got repoed. The trucks sat at the Mack dealer in Tampa Florida for a while after Evel declared bankruptcy
Be nice if you could come across some of his motorcycles, and other items of his to put in the trailor when you get it done. Can't wait to see the finished truck.
This truck came from Mack as solid white then painted the red later changed to blue so what was wrong with taken it back to the orginal red? The KW was scrapped by the way
Its such a shame this truck wasnt stored away years ago and preserved.Glad to see that it is being saved.I personally think the red Kenworth version was a bit sharper looking and would love to know what ever happened to that cab and chassis.
Are you done repairing Evel Knievel`s truck . When you are finished , we Evel Knievel fan`s would like to see a video of his finished truck , and where we can travel to , to see the finished truck .
I was there the day the evil Knievel took delivery of this at the cow Palace in the bay area I was seven years old and the only child in the group Evil Knievel had me come in and tour the entire truck with him
This truck should have been stored,it's kinda sad seeing his rig in such poor condition. Its like Evil Kneval just didn't matter anymore and nobody else really cared until now.
Those mack cabs were all steel and they were known for rusting out. And it was sitting in Clearwater,FL. and the salt air and rain and humidity rusts out anything that just sits.
When I lived In Clearwater, Fl I lived in the apartment above Evel and he was a grouchy old man. Constantly complaining about car alarms and kids playing. I think he was always irritated because he was in pain from all the broken bones.
Don't understand why a historically significant item like this couldn't just be tucked away in a shed or pole barn somewhere. They even made a series of toys based on this actual truck (I had the set as a kid!) Why leave it outside in Florida? Damn shame.
There is a rear trailer that's you don't have it's in cabazon rotting away in the desert I'll post pics soon it's identical to this one but only the trailer
Evil was my super hero he would do stuff that would make me go ouch then us kids would get on our bikes and try stuff get hurt bang or heads fall off our bikes get our legs and arms torn up about heal up and do it again now kids go outside lmao ya right they cant get hurt
All rusted out...that sucks. Evel drove an automatic transmission? Well, makes sense...probably because of all his broken bones. My dad couldn't drive a stick, because of his bad leg. He had Polio. Rip Evel.
tuffguy428 The frame.... and the engine.... and transmission.... and pretty much the rest of the running gear.... and the custom bunk/sleeper on the back..... and custom fifth wheel setup.... Because replacing the original rotten stock cab with an identical one, and reusing as many parts from the original as possible is, according to you, exactly like an ax.... which only has 2 parts. What an awesome relic from Evels glory days🏍
That's one long drive shaft. Great looking Mack, (seen the resto pics)Top effort. Love that H-model tow truck.
I saw the episode of American Trucker that showed them finding and retrieving this truck. I was shocked that it had been forgotten and neglected, but excited that someone was going to do something with it.
That cab has stories. The eyes that have been on that rig anticipating what next would have been is in the billions.
Evel was an icon when I was growing up that's a nice piece of Americana
A nice piece of American History here.. Gotta love it..
Good to see Evel Knievel Rig, being fix up!!
Big project !!
Sweet truck! I really love 1970's trucks!
When I was a kid, one of the neighbors had ALL of the Evel Knievel toys. If I remember correctly, he had the toy version of the truck and trailer.
Nice to see things like this being restored.

In Topeka KS, not Tulsa.

That's so COOL GOOD JOB GUYS LOVE IT
there's a lot of history in this truck. it deserved better than this.
This truck came from Mack as solid white then painted the red later changed to blue so what was wrong with taken it back to the orginal red? The KW was scrapped by the way
Just one big rust.bucket that was neglected for years .
yamaha superbike it is getting a restoration.
outstanding stuff guys!
I would want that cab back so I could store the original...that is the original paint there and that is what made it Evil's
I remember seeing this on American Trucker
Call Mike Wolfe from Pickers, Mike and Frank did a good job on the Aerosmith van from the early 70’s !
Its such a shame this truck wasnt stored away years ago and preserved.Glad to see that it is being saved.I personally think the red Kenworth version was a bit sharper looking and would love to know what ever happened to that cab and chassis.
exactly right Jeff ! Hes crazy if he switched that cab !
This truck makes me feel Olllldddd
I hope you do more videos of the restoration.
Even though they switched cabs, I hope they kept the original cab and not destroy it!
Make a rat rod truck with it
@@rustedratchetgarage6788 great idea
F series-first F i saw was an 18 wheeler bulldog that wore the wonderbread logo -had a 350 and the YR was BACK in 64
He was my ideal and most kids ideal back in the 70s
Parked in Florida, humidity is a bitch! Glad it got saved.
Would love see it at the Walcott Truckers Jamboree
Well worth restoring, shame it ended up in this state. People dont appreciate these things untill it is to late!
There was an identical KW too. This is not the only Knivel trick.
I met evel knievel, cool truck man
wow great video ,,,,,,,, ill be heading to elizabeth truck body in the morning i know the video is 2 years old but maybe its still there

are there some pictures of his "old" kenworth too?

I was seven years old and the only child in the group

When?

I have my grandfathers axe. My dad replaced the blade 20 years ago and 2 years ago I replaced the handle. Do you get where I coming from?
Yup.... Sure do

There's a big difference between an axe and a custom semi truck.
About the only thing that will be left from the original truck is the frame. My analogy is right on.

where is rig now?taylorsville n.c.?
I want that coe tow truck
A real spud hauler.
I hope that was practically free.
Update?
Gonna restore it?
The only reason why Evel Knievel ever crashed was because of his heavy brass balls lol
What year truck?
Why all the cab rust? I thought the cabovers were all aluminum!
Only the later years of the cabover era. The early ones were steel.
If the cab is replaced it’s no longer original. 😏
