Mad respect to you coming prepared with notes and having a notepad handy for notetaking while your guest is talking so you can revisit points after they've gotten to fully make their statements. So many other interviewers blow opportunities like these by not coming prepared, having a whack dynamic of talking over their guest, or eating up their guest's time by going on their own tangents. Your genuine interest in the fighting game genre and your respect for your guest came across as real and made for an interview that did them both justice. A+.

As someone that was around back then; hating on Justin wasn't as much about East vs West - though that was part of it - people everywhere hated Justin because HE JUST WON EVERYTHING for a time. It was a unique time where the idea of tournaments and the FGC were proliferating and people didn't know how to handle one person just dominating all the time.
Hearing Justin Wong was coming to your tournament was deflating.

@@christatarian2504 Sounds great! The way you talk through your thought process such as with PP leading to an uncertain offence is amazing. I don't think I've seen a pro player talk about things in that detail and depth. It's really refreshing. And then when Justin recommended checking DR cancels with Drive Reversal, it was like Yoda teaching Luke Skywalker about the force! Honestly, if the whole video had been back and forth with things like that, I would have listened to it for hours.
Not sure if you can do it, but Tokido's English is great, same with Xian. Their thought process would be great to hear. And though it would be difficult if you could ever get the GOAT himself Daigo... well you'd probably have 1M subscribers if that happened, ha ha ha.
Keep it up and sad to hear about the sponsors, I didn't know that had happened to you! Keep being a man of the people Chris T!

Another great interview, well done!! A lot of insight from Justin too about the psychology of playing games. The point about how he would block to figure out what his opponent likes to do so he could figure out their tendencies (and plan a counter type move) was really interesting.
I think the part about sponsorship is really difficult. If you’re good at the game, players need sponsorship so they can actually invest their time into improving their skill at the game.
However the motivation for sponsorship (from sponsors pov) if I’m understanding the conversation correctly, seems to not be in alignment with the player just being good at the game but based on views and social media engagement.
The issue is that creating social media content takes a lot of time. That time could be spent getting better at the game. Such a catch-22.

Wow this is truly amazing to hear from a GOAT. Hearing Justin just talk about how people hated on him during his dominance and we talking about late 90s going into the 2000s. Imagine playing and experiencing something similar but in the early 90s. A time period where throwing was outlawed. People would get salty and not want to come off the money is just crazy let alone a whole tournament organization.
I respect Justin his defense and patience is unmatched. Call it what you want scrubby, trash etc. It gets the job done and I respect it. Another great episode Chris T👏👏🤘💯

Just want to say Mr. Tatarian, I've been a fan of you since your inception of the fgc. You may bit realize it, but youve been impacted many players like me who just love these games and want to get good and dont give a fuck what people have to say. I've watched you play these games since sf4, and you've grown so much as a player and person. It's crazy, but I've never met you in person, but just watching you and 801strider grow over the past decade or so has been a treat for fans like me and inspirational. That competitive and divine spirit is universal.

Im glad you talked to Justin about the economics of the FGC.
He was a little softer, the truth of the matter, is that sports is just another advertisement. It is some of the most beautiful stuff on this earth, competition is great. But as it is, just like basketball, its a business. Basketball sells tickets, merch, and advertisement space.
The FGC sells fighting games, DLC for fighting games, and advertisement space. Just like sports, the only difference is a lot less people watch, and those that watch are generally young, and have less money to spend.
I remember a quote from Tasteless( a Starcraft caster). Is that esports is like acting industry, most actors make no money, there are thousands that can barely make ends meet and eventually fall out of acting cause they need more stable income, and then there the 1 percent of those professionals actually making good money.

59:52 Basketball players don’t deserve tens of millions of dollars every year, but it’s not about deserving. It’s purely about viewership and attracting big sponsorships and having the spectating of the sport bringing in billions of dollars. You being in the ”same 1%” as NBA and NFL players literally means nothing when the way the player salaried are counted in NFL and NBA is 1 000 000 times different because people pay billions to see them play.
How many millions of people would pay 40-300 bucks to see you play Street Fighter 6 on a weekly basis? Or would hundreds of thoudands of people pay 130 dollars for an online season pass to see your content?
The answer is almost no one would pay, and that’s how NBA players are paid because they bring the billions of dollars in to the sport.
Average players are collectively bringing in all of the money to the game and your talent is doing something because you have for sure inspired people to buy the game but not enough that you could compare fighting games to NBA stars.
There are alot of other sports that have the same issues like curling players propably don’t make much but they are also in the same 1% as NBA stars.
The day fighting games are watched in every home around the country and being a big phenomenon around the world that schools have fighting game teams and leagues and when you are a hero to millions or even hundreds of millions is when you ”deserve more money” or even millions.
The good news is the FGC is growing so there will be bigger prizes for top players.
So it’s close to 0% about how you are in the top pool of talent and also close to 0% about what you deserve, because money isn’t about either of those.

Anyone who plays fighting games understands that terminology, I’m not sure if you’re new, or if you’re purposefully trying to come off negatively. regardless, calling someone godlike has never been used to equate their skill to being God or a God, it’s just a term, I’m sure you don’t watch every single word that leaves your mouth or every action that you do which could be considered a sin. God bless you and take care.

If God was visible to you in that room during the podcast you wouldn't of dared refer to Justin as a god, and you know I'm right about that. If you believe on Jesus for the forgiveness of sin and eternal life then whether you like it or not, we are brothers and I'm warning you that our Father HATES it when we call other things a god.

@killout18 the UA-cam comments section is not the place to have "brotherly" disagreements.... It just makes the "Body of Christ" look silly

@@marcoaybar1195 This is the very venue Chris T declared a man as a god. Like the men who hated to hear Jeremiah, do you wish no one stood up and said anything?

Chris T has the same arguments that the WNBA yes you guys are the best but viewership is really low.

That’s actually a really good point, but the viewership isn’t that much lower than CS major events or even non major events, SF6 has 10s of thousands of viewers daily now , ever since release the game has a huge viewership compared to other esport games too, I’m not asking to make 10K a month, but it would be nice to make like 3-4K to survive bro
