I loved UA-cam VR on Quest 2, but on Quest 3 many 360 and 180 3D videos seem to be locked to max 1080p resolution and look terrible. I'm guessing the UA-cam app needs an update to recognise the Quest 3 hardware. I'm stunned that this was not identified as an issue by Meta during testing given the popularity of the UA-cam VR app. Very dissappointing. Lots of of discussions threads online of people reporting the same issue, but I haven't yet found any indiciation as to whether the issue is going to be fixed or when.
@@ometofuThe really sad thing is that the UA-cam app currently streams higher resoltuion on Quest 2 than it does on Quest 3. All this while the UA-cam app is stil something like the 5th most used app on Quest.
I get the sentiment, but when i put on a quest 3 i find myself wondering if the immersion (over regular gaming) is worth trading in the beautiful picture of an oled and the immersion of a modern 11.4.2 surround system. Watching a movie you don't even get the better immersion, no surround sound, low picture quality, all downside. IMho, better of video chatting a friend if none of your friend's or family can physically sit in the same room with you!
Thanks for showing the media aspect as well! I have a crystal but the portable media aspect here intrigues me. How good is the picture, colors and contrast (dark scenes) when watching movies?
Far better form factor, standalone is now decent enough to where I launch more standalone games than pcvr because the barrier of entry is so low and performance is so good. Lcd but it's a good LCD, ofc OLED will have better blacks. Awesome high res screen, reverb g2 levels of clarity

I got mine this morning mainly for media using Skybox VR and I am soooo disappointed ! Sure it's better than Quest 2 but still very far from an "ultimate experience", those LCD screens really ruin it all, I think the image is just awful and I am very sad about this, I'm curious to read you tomorrow
@LestestsdeNico Tried it today and it looks amazing noticeably better than the quest 2. And the mixed reality was amazing however the pass through isn't as great as some of the UA-cams made it to seem. Granted I didn't have any natural light only room lights. Also meta need to come up with legit use cases with MR content as its lacking in that. Right now it just feels like a Quest 2 on steroids with better screen clarity and tracking. And amazing MR functionality that's underutilised. Also hand tracking seems to be a lot better and even low light tracking as well. Overall am very happy with my purchase :) should keep me busy until the big boy arrives... That's the vision pro BTW :)
If you're watching a movie filling 40 degrees of your vision (the most immersive according to THX and the largest angle recommended by anyone), the Quest 3's resolution still falls a bit short of 720p (around 560p by my calculation), and that's assuming it's using the full native resolution and not the default buffer resolution (at the buffer resolution it would be a little under 480p). I'd say once we get above 50ppd (the Quest 3 supposedly is 25ppd), then we'll be almost at the limit of human vision and it might be an actual suitable replacement for a 4K TV (assuming you only watch by yourself).
@@silentplayz6797 The actual resolution is 2064 x 2208 per eye, but you're not gonna watch a movie with it filling your entire vision. I'm saying at the ideal size on the screen for watching a regular movie, the pixels it'll take up will be equivalent to a bit under 720p.

Is the only app with pass-through the virtual desktop? I would think what maybe because the quest 3 is new, not very many mixed reality apps have done it, but it would be cool to view a movie in a real room where you jave fixed a screen to a wall (doesn't really need to be a wall, but a spot in real life.) Would be fun to set up a screen in the middle of a hallway, and have people be bisected by the screen and part of other people passing by be occluded by the virtual screen.

Unfortunately my Quest 3 was delivered to the wrong address. Guess someone got a free quest 3😒 it was in my state and like 2 hrs away in a fedex facility and then it was moved like 2 states over then delivered to a random person. Actually mad bru
Somone in the hub could have recognized what it was and edited the address and slapped a new label on it.. I work for UPS and people have done similar crap in the past they do get caught since all the items are tracked... but the item itself is most likly gone
@De1usionsofGrandeur I just looked at the drop off signature and it said my address but it also says it was dropped off somewhere else
@@TianLong72k I'd try to contact them about it.. seems odd to me
What? 😢
That's crazy. You got to be able to do something about it surely?
@DuckAlertBeats yea obviously lol but it might take a week to be resolved which sucks cuz I pre-ordered it so I could get it day 1
Skybox VR also offers passthrough and 3D
Sony seem to be doing the bare minimum when it comes to... well everything
How hard is it to get these apps on your device?!?
Knowing sony they are probably asking for more money for the apps to be on their device
They don't want you doing things they can't make a quick buck off
@@De1usionsofGrandeurYeah wouldn't be surprised...
@@Thezuule1I get that feeling too. Don't really like supporting them tbh
@@Thezuule1They'll like it even less if we get fed up and defect to PCVR...
is it really a lot better than quest 2? I loved the concept but with quest 2 is still to blurry for me to enjoy it.
Big screen is a huge fever dream after midnight. It’s so weird.
Don't forget some of these apps have hand tracking support so you don't have to constantly pick up and put down controllers
Thank you for convincing me to buy it, tbh I wanted the Vision Pro but $3,500 I can buy one of this and have a similar experience in watching movies.
What's more depressing is taking the headset off and seeing the shit living conditions you're in 😂
😢
@@GAMERTAGVREach new generation of product is described as "ultimate", (meaning "I am the very last one, no one else can do better, and don't expect anything better"?), a term the Anglo-Saxons are so obsessed with.
I've had Skybox for years now and its brilliant.
Thank you for great opinion. So Q3 in terms of sharpness and clarity is much better then Q2 ??
It would be interesting to see a comparison to Big Screen Beyond. Immersed is pretty good. I would love to watch more 3d movies in VR, but the content just isn't available streaming anywhere. Big Screen has such a limited selection.
The movie space in general has a very limited selection honestly. It sucks. Probably the best option is to find 3d dvds to own and rip to host your own room (you know...the legally safe way)
I love the quest 3 but i cant even get through a 2 hour movie without the battery dying. Watched thursday night football on prime through my quest browser with pass through on and it looked fantastic.
same! i mix reality is so cool - can't imagine in the near future - my batter dies as well quite quick :(
Can you keep it plugged in while using it?
Starting to quite fancy one of these now... and trading my PSVR2 (but keeping my PSVR1 set up cos, comfort, library, Astrobot etc lol)
How are the black levels and colours in Quest 3 games? Comparable to PSVR1 would you say?
Yeah I know that was OLED too but it always had a slightly raised black level. Colours are still amazing though...
You're getting rid of psvr 2 and keeping 1? Wow I mean I can't exactly blame you especially in the context of games
@@TheSparkynutsI just prefer it in pretty much every way lol plus I kind of prefer dualshock controls, not really into all that motion control stuff in most PSVR2 games tbh
@@DuckAlertBeatsthis comment makes no sense. Lol there is nothing better about it, but maybe some of the software.
@@mrloski2915 Yeah it does. I like the colours better (try comparing the dashboard side by side with both headsets, PSVR1 is more saturated by far. PSVR2 has that more washed out faux-HDR look), the comfort isn't even comparable for me, far, far prefer the original. And yeah, the games libraries. There isn't even much I like on the new one, not even the stuff everyone else seems to love tbh :(
These big screen media consumption apps need a local network mode with pass through. I want to chill with my friends and watch a movie on a huge screen in my living room together.
What about Amazon Prime? How does that compare?
BigScreen VR is AMAZING
Do you see 3d dimension... with 3d movie?? And can you curve the screen with 3d a bit... so you can suck in to a movie... In the meta 3.
3D movies are in full 3D
I have the Rokid Air glasses, how does this compare to that for watching movies?
Mixed media cinema.. has a nice ring to it.
Does big screen virtual desktop support 4k streaming ?
I’ve heard gamepass is coming to Quest3. Am I correct in assuming you’ll have to download the game only the storage?
Xbox Games will be via cloud. Streaming
Do any have an environment where its raining outside? That would be cozy AF!
if you had one choice which would you recommend quest 3 or ps vr 2 ? thanks im conflicted with the short battery on the quest and also i have res evil 4 for ps5 waiting to be played lol
Can you tell us if the quality of youtube vr, bigscreen and netflix is better than the quest 2, I'm not sure it's worth the update if the resolution is not way better than quest 2 as I use my headset mostly to stream media. Thanks
not too much better mainly because of the streaming service themselves.. u still only getting 480p... but it is the time to get it, probably only time u can sell your quest 2...... just like iphone.. we probably have to be like iphone X to see the day and night improvement...
The thing vr headset needs is capability to insert a SIM card and be able to use 5g to use them in the exterior, the problem there would be fixing the sun melting the screen, also more battery, it would be so cool to bring all of this things with you in AR
that last master chief clip reminds me, has there been any word about Gamepass on the quest 3? Seems I recall it was announced last year? Am I remembering wrong?
I loved UA-cam VR on Quest 2, but on Quest 3 many 360 and 180 3D videos seem to be locked to max 1080p resolution and look terrible. I'm guessing the UA-cam app needs an update to recognise the Quest 3 hardware. I'm stunned that this was not identified as an issue by Meta during testing given the popularity of the UA-cam VR app. Very dissappointing. Lots of of discussions threads online of people reporting the same issue, but I haven't yet found any indiciation as to whether the issue is going to be fixed or when.
agreed.. most streaming platform won't do justice, maybe streaming from your own mac using virtual desktop .. can finally give me some 4k content
@@ometofuThe really sad thing is that the UA-cam app currently streams higher resoltuion on Quest 2 than it does on Quest 3. (Though I have always suspected that even on Quest 2 it could have been improved with some higher resolution intersampling to reduce aliasing effects.) All this while the UA-cam app is stil something like the 5th most used app on Quest.
thanks bro this is all i wanted to know
No problem 👍
Should one upgrade Q2 to Q3 if uses this device only for movie watching?
Unfortunately you missed the best player: Skybox......
Exactly! Skybox is the best!
thanks. how clear is text though?
I get the sentiment, but when i put on a quest 3 i find myself wondering if the immersion (over regular gaming) is worth trading in the beautiful picture of an oled and the immersion of a modern 11.4.2 surround system. Watching a movie you don't even get the better immersion, no surround sound, low picture quality, all downside. IMho, better of video chatting a friend if none of your friend's or family can physically sit in the same room with you!
Is there a way to stream movies from Stremio directly to the Meta Quest 3?
Thanks for showing the media aspect as well!
I have a crystal but the portable media aspect here intrigues me.
How good is the picture, colors and contrast (dark scenes) when watching movies?
Far better form factor, standalone is now decent enough to where I launch more standalone games than pcvr because the barrier of entry is so low and performance is so good.
Lcd but it's a good LCD, ofc OLED will have better blacks. Awesome high res screen, reverb g2 levels of clarity
@@Wart1076 what about movie watching
I would never wear a pimax for that purpose because I want my neck not to hurt.
I found even the q2 plenty sharp enough for that@@TonyDrecaps
is this footage recorded through the lens of the actual headset?
SkyBox is great for watching movies
Thank you. I’ll check it out
Have they fixed the app where if you enlarge the screen it also zooms in. All the apps do this for quest 3. Skybox, VD any others out there i can try? Id like to enlarge but back up the screen.
i m pretty sure the new Apple Headset will be the ultimate Cinema Screen
is the headset still reliant on the PC video card. or does it replace it?
I found your video helpfull tk you Bro...
Question...
I like to see any movie on my 65in screen sony brava.
Want is the best VR movie for me...
Oculus Quest 2 Watch 3D Movies or
Quest 3.
Thank
So does the quest 3 do 4k video? If so does it do HDR/Dolby Vision? Also how is it with gaming non-SteamVR, specifically if you want to play either regular games on a virtual big TV or retro games. Lastly can you use something like an nvidia shield or fire stick to stream from or does it have to be from a PC? Or can you load Kodi and play it from there?
You cab get kodi
It's more 2k
Pc or dlna on phone
Great Video! Can't wait to get my quest 3 tomorrow! I defiantly plan to utilise it for Media :)
@@LestestsdeNico so do you know what is the best vr for media consumption, is pico 4 any better?
@@LestestsdeNico have you tried any other media players?
Have fun!
Ok. I am lost! I can not figure out how to scroll thru Disney and hulu. Help ...
Need yout help. How do you connect quest 3 with your home theater surround system??? Usb c to hdmi connection to the avr?
What do you use to stream movies? A pc, can you stream via a mobile?
Wait I’m confused. I thought the resolution of the Q3 was higher than 720p? Or is it 720p because of scaling on the quest displays?
@@silentplayz6797 The actual resolution is 2064 x 2208 per eye, but you're not gonna watch a movie with it filling your entire vision. I'm saying at the ideal size on the screen for watching a regular movie, the pixels it'll take up will be equivalent to a bit under 720p.
Try to work with triple screen like a spatial computer is it worked ? better than quest pro ? great Vision Pro alternative ?
Can you download movies or UA-cam videos if you have premium
How do you download the 3d movies for big screen?
You can play them from your PC
@@GAMERTAGVR if you don't have a lc can you do it from your phone or transfer them locally from your phone?
Vspatial is also really good
Thanks GT.
UA-cam VR app says it supports pass through now but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get it to work! It’s not a setting, it’s not an option when playing a video. I’m stumped
I love 3D too so thumbs up for your review!
I find youtube vr 360 video to be out of proportion and blurry for the most part. Any channel with good 360 vid you would recommend?
Good point re PSVR2 and 3d, seems a missed opportunity.
Can we watch 3d movies on the quest 3?
of course ... as in quest 2, go and maybe quest 1. (also don't forget the "picos"!!!)
Does netflix still require controllers ?
Is 1080P resolution the limitation of UA-cam VR or the Quest 3?
Do the blacks still look washed out / grey with the quest 3 vs quest 2?
I'm mainly gonna use this to watch movies and I'd really like to be able to play it using my Xbox to use it as a giant screen. Idk if the quest can do this tho so should I get the quest 3 or the xreal air 2 pros
do you see screendoor when using wolvic/firefox reality browser on meta Q3 ?
Hi do i need to swap out the batteries on the controllers or are they rechargable would i need the dock ?
