It's scary how good they are in this movie. Rooney's mentioned that what she feels for Cate is very similar to what Therese felt for Carol in the sense that she really was stunned and overwhelmed by Cate because she has always looked up to her so it was easy for her to tap into that and play like she was in awe of her because she actually was and that's totally discernible in this film. They both did a fantastic job, Rooney especially was incredible.
omg that sexual tension was so palpable! you could feel how much both wanted it, and its so subtle how cate (carol) leans on, just a little bit more, when therese graces her neck.
Jessica So ingenious ! A moment ago there was so much sexual tension that Therese had to emerge from it taking a gulp of her drink to calm down.. And this toast to President McKinley had them both burst into laughter, turning the atmosphere to “playful”. A very nice twist to end the scene ! Cate is really good if it is indeed improvisation and Rooney picked it up beautifully. 😊
I met my crush yesterday for a group project for one of our classes. She told me I smelled nice and after a while I asked her if she was wearing perfume because it smelled really good. She told me yes AND THEN PROCEEDED TO DO THAT EXACT SAME THING CATE BLANCHETT DID. MY POOR HEART ALMOST STOPPED.
I love this movie because of the fiftys beauty ... the interiors, the cars, the clothes, the houses, the music, the estetics of the 50s were superiour to that of today. Blanchetts acting is pure pleasure, her voice, a queens voice, her elegance and poise, totally addictive, yet ... if this movie were set in Todays world, or the 90s, it would be a total turn off!
In the novel Therese asks Carol why she waited so long. Carol: I thought I wouldn' t want more but I was wrong. Without these dialogues or voice over it' s a little hard to follow Reading the book complement watching the film a lot.
Yes. One of the things you will observe is that you get more of a feeling of their living arrangements. Therese lives in a Small Apt while Carol's Living Room could fit into Therese's House. We get an idea of Carol's & Therese's background as well as Abby.
Her perfume is brought up a few times in the movie, but never by name. Is Carol a Chanel type? Joy by Jean Patou? Something along those lines. Maybe Femme de Rochas since it was a femme fatale scent.
Oh here's a fun fact. On the Canadian Series Bomb Girls about women who worked in a Munitions Factory during WW II some of which lived in a Boarding House and one evening they were listening to Billie Holiday and Teddy Wilson's "I'll Never Be The Same".
I'm not american, so I was a little bit confused either. I think it has to do with the presidential suite they are in. But I wish an american could tell us if the "president McKinley" means anything else in this joke.
When Carol said: "smell that", MY HEART LITERALLY STOPPED. Cate and Rooney's chemistry is amazing and so palpable

+Delato i agree..rooney is too good..cate's performance is terrible
+MsPark u misunderstood me, i said for cate's calibre, her acting was terrible
@@nishuk.8084 it couldn't be further from the truth, Rooney's performance was all reacting to cate's performance and Cate's performance was fantastic.
I always laughed at how even though she literally put on the same perfume, she still asked Therese to smell her neck. Nice move.
That Carol sure knows how to woo someone.
Wish she'd woo me
+Valindie Carol is a Playa. From the moment they had Lunch, Therese was like this Little Morsel she wanted to taste.
+laminage To taste? You have a dirty mind lol
Sounds like the song "Something" by George Harrison (Beatles).
Carol just wants to make a meal out of her.
omg that sexual tension was so palpable! you could feel how much both wanted it, and its so subtle how cate (carol) leans on, just a little bit more, when therese graces her neck.
Kissing of the neck area is my favourite. ....
They are wearing the same perfume...... carol is a sly fox
Lol
SHE KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT SHE'S DOING
Therese is like, ooookay i think i'll take a giant gulp of my drink now thanks bye
+EuphoriaLacrymosa haha I know right. She completely missed her chance right there, she's totally overwhelmed.
Hahaha! So true. Perfect description of that feeling.
EuphoriaLacrymosa 😂😂😂 yes you nailed it.
it was confirmed by the screenwriter that the last part was an improvisation from Cate lol fantastic

Wow, Cate is fantastic. That little stunt she pulled fits the character so much.
Really? Where did you hear or read that if you don’t mind me asking?
Oooh what a tension! Their chemistry is just delicious!
I always loved this scene because Carol and Therese seem to be comfortable with each other and even manage to joke around.
Same it’s such a good scene to show their relationship and how filled with love it is

How does your story end?
Bro it's been a year, we need an update
hey ru still there?
Please give an update, we’re nosy
carol's gaydar though
Cate's giggle at 0:36 SLAYS me
+Sam11786 I KNOW RIGHT
What wonderful raw chemistry between these gifted actors.. Excellent!
One of my top movies I have ever watched that I can never get bored of I fall in love with it a different way each time I watch it
We need more movies like this one , simple yet beautiful, loved the ending ❤️❤️❤️
That moment when therese backs away and carol slowly just a bit leans in and then gives up and looks at the other way in disappointment its just..

I too love the aesthetics of this movie. I quit smoking in 1997 and I'm dying for a cigarette right now-preferably shared with Cate Blanchett.
@@richardo5951 hope you didnt give in! I also stopped smoking and know the struggle... Watching this movie made me want a cigarette so bad!
i can't breathe
The way I just knew THAT scene would be most replayed, even I cant get enough of it the tension is WOW
I just can't stop watch this clip. Amazing chemistry.
Rooney Mara looks like Audrey Hepburn :)
Agreed!
lion b
What I wouldn't give for a sequel to this.
"Don't blink!"
Carol: smell that !
Me: oooo she's so smart
She totally had the opportunity to kiss her neck lol
In the novel Therese asks Carol why she waited so long. Carol: I thought I wouldn' t want more but I was wrong. Without these dialogues or voice over it' s a little hard to follow Reading the book complement watching the film a lot.
Oh, yeah! I bet!
Is the book better?

laminage The film has some funny parts, which I completely overlooked in my first two veiwings.
I can listen to Cate saying “Pulse Points” all daaaay! Lol. 😆
Can you imagine working at The Hotel and listening to them from outside or even in The Next Room.
I've seen the movie and omg it was amazing! I was in tears by the end. Amazing performances by the actors!
@@fatimafarota6324 u can watch it on Google just type cineb.net
So seductive ... carol’s voice
if Katherine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn were reborn it would be Cate and Rooney.
You can tell Carol wanted a kiss.
Favorite clip!! 💜
I love that song. And this scene.
wonderful scene with the Billie Holiday music....
Oh my god, that was so hot it melted me right away
This gives me ASMR
Her perfume is brought up a few times in the movie, but never by name. Is Carol a Chanel type? Joy by Jean Patou? Something along those lines. Maybe Femme de Rochas since it was a femme fatale scent.
I love your perfume knowledge
0:50 somebody want to eat someone right here right now.
goodbye
obsessed with the smell that part.

can't wait to see this!
Time passed but not my Love for Carol ⚘
January 9th, 2021
Why Therese didn't kiss Carol neck, she had totally opportunity
Therese was never going to make the first move. She was young. In the book she's only 19.
Kristi Marie how old is carol
@@bballhead7904 31/32 if I'm not mistaken
Because she is a young gay...
ohhh the feels >.
this is...literally..killing me softly.... where can I watch it..
I can't wait till february...😥
I' s playing since Nov but very limited screenings

0:52 "It's GO time" ;)
So i guess this will be my move for my first kiss!! Thank you!! Haha that's so slick tho.
Exquisite scene!
Really? Easy Living? I love Fallout and knowing that Easy Living featured in this movie is giving more more reasons to watch!
This song is so engraved in my mind from playing Fallout since I was 12 haha, so odd hearing it in anything else
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Oh here's a fun fact. On the Canadian Series Bomb Girls about women who worked in a Munitions Factory during WW II some of which lived in a Boarding House and one evening they were listening to Billie Holiday and Teddy Wilson's "I'll Never Be The Same".
Great Music, Billie Holiday .....
sorry if this is a dumb question, but can someone explain the "To President Mckinley" line? Why did they laugh afterwards?
I'm not american, so I was a little bit confused either. I think it has to do with the presidential suite they are in. But I wish an american could tell us if the "president McKinley" means anything else in this joke.
That hotel they're staying in is called McKinley Hotel so I think Carol was just being funny :)
+bicipiccola Yeah... Carol being Cate... :)
Is it an impromptu dialogue? As I read the script there is no this dialogue, Cate again☺️
@@soneseo8459 Yes. Supposedly it was added by Cate Blanchett.
What perfume is she trying? Does anyone know?
can anyone tell me the perfume name
My own reference 1:02
Smell that
that was an awkward moment after she got close to carol xD
Quizás cuando se estrenará en Chile :(

Does anybody know what song is playing during this scene?? Ive been dying to find out. Thank you!!
+Ache Cruz Billie Holiday - Easy Living
+Alma Doumani Thank you so much! It's such a beautiful song.
why Therese didnt kiss Carol!!!!! 😂
Because she was paralyzed in awe. Like she couldn' t breathe never mind kissing. Remember she is 19 year old and Carol overwhelms her.
+ana martinez i like your explaination!!!😊
+ana martinez No kidding. That's why she took a sip of some liquid confidence right afterward.
+C.C. Ekeke 😊😊😊 wow! good catch! I mever thought about that! Rooney is sooooo amazingly qualified for this role! NO KIDDING!!!

Bruh during this scene I wasn't paying attention to Carol tbh but that music cuz Fallout franchise 😆.
...
This movie for some reason makes me cringe from the clips. Even though I enjoy Rooney
Chemistry not as intense as Hahn and Weisz.
