  • 72 hours after the sinking of the Sewol ferry on April 16, 2014.
What did the South Korean government do during this period called 'golden time' to rescue lives?
The documentary, produced in cooperation with the Sewol Ferry Victims' Families Committee and a group of independent producers who record the truth about the ferry disaster, tries to show how more than 300 lives could not be rescued and therefore were lost.

the thing that shocks me the most is how calm all the rescuers and police seem to be, like theres no hurry when the ferry is already nearly on its side and its obvious people are trapped with no way of getting out.

Ovaaa K Rescuer can go in and put up ropes to guide them out. They did nothing. I still can't get over the fact that they get away with this. Yes. The captain is an asshole but they are not any different than the captain. They should be punished same as the captain for delaying rescue. All of the reason i have heard from them are basically bullshit.
These fuckers refused help from other more experience rescuer. They have big balls and someone should give the a kick or two so that they fucking wake up.

The one year anniversary is coming up. To think that those kids are still in that ship, still waiting for someone to rescue them, breaks my heart. I'm going to make it known that the government did nothing to help these kids and decided to let them die. I'm going to make sure that even after time passes, that truth will not be forgotten. I watched it too and I just can't wrap my head around it. It makes no sense. Especially why they had to stay in their cabins. It would've been great for the Coast Guard to have devices to be able to go under the ferry and blow it up with air to at least keep it from sinking long enough to get everyone on board off the thing. I know the currents were bad but they could've been attached to some type of line to keep them from being swept away.

Imagine.. You're at work, in school, out with a friend, and your little brother, sister, son, daughter is supposed to be on a school trip to Jeju with their friends. Suddenly a message from them "In case I don't survive, I want you to know that I love you" or "Please send help we're drowning". You are already in panic when you find out about the situation, but the media report says everyone is rescued, and after panicking you feel at least a little relieved. Your brother, sister, daughter, son.. They're alive. Hours pass by, and you wait for the government or media's list of saved people, and you find out that out of 300 students, only a few have been saved, and you don't see the name of your sister, your brother.. your own daughter, son. You see the reports, the vessel has almost completely sunk. Panic is everywhere the vessel isn't waiting for anyone, it's sinking, you hear the cries of parents, of relatives and you think of your own brother, sister, son daughter. They're in the vessel, they're inside. Are they alive? How are they feeling? Are they cold? Will they rescue them? What were the last words you told him/her? When did you see him/her the last time? Are you ever going to hug them again? Your only hope is that they managed to survive somehow and the government and coast guard will help them. Nothing, no one does anything. Are they alive? Where are they? You can only see a tip of the boat, the rest is completely under water.. for hours. Now the hope is dying but you're still holding onto every little piece of it, but still.. No one is even close to the boat. You wait and wait and wait, but you never ever hear from them anymore. And the government does nothing, noone is trying to save anyone in the boat. Long after all the horror, almost all hope has disappeared, and the divers are now looking for bodies to bring out on the surface. They ask all the parents and relatives to check the descriptions of the victim that have been retrieved from the vessel, in case anyone recognizes their own child, brother, sister. You need to read the descriptions of the bodies, hoping it doesn't fit your brother, sister.. The captain and the crew fled the scene after ordering all the students to "STAY PUT AND DON'T GO ANYWHERE, IT'S MORE DANGEROUS". This horror is unforgivable and I cannot think of a fitting punishment for all the people involved in this crime.
RIP angels, in the name of the good people among humankind, we are deeply sorry.

No, Jessica is absolutely right. The Coast Guard had PLENTY of time to get everyone out of the ferry and onto the commercial and fishing vessels before it capsized. Look up the countless vids showing calm waters when they first got there, mere 1.6 km from an inhabited island. 1) They themselves didn't rescue and kept others from rescuing. 2) But they actually kept the passengers from escaping by refusing to tell them to come out but abandoning them to the incessant announcement onboard telling them to stay put and not move, again and again and again and again and again... Since then they covered up, misled, obstructed, deleted, altered and lied to the investigators on their trail, with the explicit support from the ruling regime. What had seemed to be a tragic accident/incident is now becoming much more. The whole thing smells and must be probed fully.

First, Costguard helicopter is the first arrived at scene. Yes, they did to rescued the other passenger but did they go inside? To check the situation, they had a much time to go inside but they choose to not go.They said in the interview they did know the situation inside the ship. They had a time to but not get inside which means they dont wanna know it.
Second, The US navy ship is spotted near at the accident of the sewol ferry. They did offer to costguard to help and also they a pro diver along them. But the gov. refuse the offer even and tell a lie about the current of water i know what ur talking but they offer help early but refuse it. Fucking demn... I did research about how us navy did offer the help. So i dont want to tell it. But its not fucking they said current water!
Third, During sewol ferry sinking the news is reporting live but they report lies! Fucking lies that saying many boat of costguard at the scence and all passenger is safe. I watched some interview of parents victims, parents said to reporter " why u reporting lies?? It is not ur job to reveal the truth? All costguard is here the boat is here? ". Reporter said " We order to not reveal the real situation " while saying that she cried about the real situation..
Four, Parents of the victims request to the costguard to take a helicopter and boat to the site of accident they wil pay it no matter how much it we dont care. Costgguard said ok mam we be ready it, but 30mins ago some parents that request a helicopter and boat the parents ask the costguard if they done the preparing but costguard said we did not said it that we are preparing helicopter or boat to u. Again they lied to the parents of the victims so what is really is the costguard are had no intention to save those student.

I really believe there a survivor on the ship i knew it and im sure they knew it. They ignore it..

Heartbreaking. It's so hard to watch footage of the situation progressing, just thinking of ways it could have been so much less deadly. What really burns is how much of it seems to be people wanting to _appear_ to be able to do their job even when they have absolutely no idea what to do. From the decisions of the captain of the Sewol (despicably wrong), the Coast Guard not actually boarding the ship to help, actively keeping away fishing ships that had the right idea (WHAT), and then, what I didn't know about at all before this video, the Blue House constantly seeking information to stay on top of the "story" _as the kids are dying_. It makes me furious. Why isn't there an action plan already in place for this? Dissolving the Coast Guard is not going to help with that (although certainly all the people in charge here shouldn't be in their positions).
That initial misreporting by the mass media is downright criminally irresponsible too. Plus lying to the faces of grieving parents with this 500 divers story? Unbelievable, the gall some people have. Thank you, newstapa, for your effort to report on the truth of this case and for adding English subtitles to let more of the world know.

304 dreams were lost in this event and they did nothing. These "rescuers" ripped families apart. These kids could have gone home that day and be reunited with their parents and laugh off the event but they were stuck inside the ferry because no one, not a single soul went to help them. Those kids were still alive even if the tip of the ship was left above water. The parents that stood there watching the rest of the ferry sink were torn to pieces as the rescuers sat in the ship cross from them. Those parents screamed for their kids, cried for them and prayed to their god for them yet nothing was done. 304 dreams could have made it had their captain not abandoned ship. 304 dreams could have made it had they been ordered to abandon the ferry immediately as soon as it started to drift in the freezing water. Those 304 dreams could have lived through it had they not tinkered with the ferry illegally and not strap down the cars and luggage, making the fateful decision to take the shortcut and jerk the ship so hard that the cars and luggage moved around and caused the ferry to start sinking. 304 dreams could have made it to the island and back with amazing memories and have a story to talk about when they get home to their parents and siblings. 304 dreams were lost in the tragic event of the Sewol Ferry and no one was bothered to help them except for the civilians that offered to dive 4-5 times a day to pull out almost 30 bodies, they put their lives on the line diving so many times in one day to help out the parents that wanted their kids back. The parents waited for their kids back on the pier, for the ship to arrive back so they can greet their kids and talk about their kids. But because of the fateful decision, these parents are waiting at the pier at late hours of the night, screaming for their kids, crying, they wanted the truth and they wanted their kids back home and safe, but instead they received the bodies that the divers managed to find while they could. These parents wanted to see their kids alive and well but they were met with the cold bodies of their children that they have to bury. These parents went as far to pay for a ship for themselves yet reporters flocked it to get fake news. These parents only wanted to see their kids, but they cant. In the Sewol Ferry, 304 passengers were killed out of the 450 that had boarded. The captain of the ferry was given 15+ years in prison and it doesnt seem like its enough. These parents demanded to see their kids when they daw the ferry being brought back. Those parents were kicked out of the pier and they stood screaming for their kids that they never got to see again. The Sewol Ferry is a tragic event and its the only one that managed to make me cry, even while talking about it. I was never told of this story years ago so do not come at me for any incorrect information. The 304 passengers that died in this ferry could had lived, they would be in their twenties now had they not died.

I don’t think that is the case, it’s more of incompetence. The boat was overloaded(for profits), the Captain was lazy and irresponsible (sleeping in the bunk) allowing a less experienced mate to steer the ship, the crew were not trained for this situation( asking students to stay put, whilst most crew escaped, they were a handful whom stay to help students) , the coast Guards too were not sufficiently trained for these situations(hence no actions were taken). The government were prideful and egoistic( refusing help from other nations). The human sacrifice controversy is just propaganda,it is more of humane error as shown clearly by the sequence of events.

Thank you for producing this video; it is the only ray of truth in an epic tragedy that has been shrouded in darkness driven by corrupted senior politicians who have manipulated the information to save only themselves & their business connections. It has been almost a year and there have been no attempts to raise the Sewol to recover missing bodies and enable a thorough investigation into why the ferry sank. Everyone must ask: "why the delay and reluctance to raise the ship?"; "why was a private company contracted to take over the 'rescue operation'?"- especially in light of the magnitude of the suffering that families of the 300 victims and millions of sympathizers have experienced. A thorough investigation will uncover a network of politicians and powerful business leaders who are complicit in the over-loading (cargo) of that ferry and the resulting peril of hundreds of innocent victims.

This comment is for the producers of this video, the S.F.V.F.C., and everyone that is tired of all the corruption and injustice caused by the ones in currently charge of everything on this planet.
Thank you for posting this video with English subtitles. I do not believe this information would have been released to us in this country with the current news media. My heart and best wishes goes out to the families of the people that perished and all that suffered due to this fiasco.
Here is where it gets a little long winded but since there are so many factors involved, I have decided to cut to the chase as much as possible, except where I felt needed, so hang in there with me. Please excuse any grammer errors you may find. I am not a professional writer.
To me it seems obvious that some if not most or all countries have government officials that are basically nothing more than pawns in the chess game known as, corporations. Money rules how things are done and who has most of the money? Not the governments but the corporations. They buy the services of the media, government and military. This way to benefit themselves, they can create any story they want to with the media, hide behind the government and use the military to intimidate the civilians that may become aware of what is really happening. This has been happening for ages and will continue until the general public unites and stands up for their rights as a people. Revolt, overthrow and civilian control are what these corporations are afraid of. They are a cancer to the human race and need to be removed for the benefit of mankind. These kind of people created money for control purposes only. Man did not have this type of problem when bartering was how items needed in life were obtained.
I live in the U.S.A. but am not a true American. Those noble, wonderful Native Americans in general lived amongst one another in peace, That is until the English Separatists came over here, took their land, made false promises which they had no intention of keeping and looked for more way to take advantage of them. The corporation's major power aside from money is brainwashing. That is why the SK children stayed on the ship. They are taught at a very young age to do as they are told. I think SK is better at it than the people in charge here. Those poor children stayed in that ship because they were ordered to do so. Try that here and the children will flip you off and say, and pardon my language, "Fuck You". Kids here have little fear of authority even when they know they will be punished in one way or another.
As far as out government is concerned, it has been said that the republicans and democrats here are the left wing and right wing of a bird. Since they can not get together about anything other that raise taxes, increase their pay and take a long vacation (especially during times of crises), the bird never flies straight. That is because the brain of the bird is controlled again, by the corporations that play one group of people against the other. People here should not even bother voting as the general public's vote counts for nothing. The Corporations control all. They buy votes, support politicians that always say their opponents are bad because of this or that, and the one with the most capital backing wins. Top it all off, these politicians turn around and do the same things they accuse their opponents of doing.
It is all, of the corporations, by the corporations and especially for the corporations. They are the true puppet masters and their puppets are a most deadly, disgraceful and deceitful ones imaginable. We as the general public allowed ourselves to become their puppet's, puppets.
Let us remove the mental programming that has been engraved in our brains for all these years, waken from this brainwashing nightmare and retake control of how our lives should be lived. If we leave it in the hands of the money manipulators, we might as well stay asleep and live in the Matrix.
    Thank you for reading.

The problem was that they didnt even try. Just thought "eh we saved some people, we're done for the day"
All of the heads that delievered any orders shouldve been punished equally.
They legitimately wasted more time and money because they were supposedly "worried" about the rescuers dying.
All lacked any empathy, sympathy, humanity in them. There should've ONE person willing to risk their life and job to help those in need.

I heard that the US,China and Japan, wants to help to the rescue operations, but this Govt declined..., telling its under Control.... wthFfffkkkkk...,
This is different incident,,.but i somehow remember, the incident Happened in Thailand werein a group of students were trapped in The Cave for days.., The Thai Govt gave their best and didnt gave up in the rescue operations..They even asked for help to other countries and to those most capable for the rescue...its really a touching moment..making the impossible, Possible....,
How i wish....something like this have happened, with the gravity of this tragedy, they should've NOT closed the option of asking help or accepting help of those who're extending assistance. Knowinh that they do have the expertise to do so.
How i wish there are students trapped at the cabin that were able to survive.., 1, 10, 30..doesnt matter how many..what matters knowing that the govt have the drive /commitment to saved those children....
theyre so many things that the past govt /officials couldve done better but chose not to...
    Its saddening, and frustrating..

It's a strange and surreal thing to see images and videos of people being alive and well when at the same time you know they are no-longer with us. Some of them did make it out yes, but there were about 400+ passengers on board and 291 passed away. The students that were there were over 300. Most of the casualties were the students and that is a horrifying fact, knowing that such young and bright lives are gone just like that. The whole situation could have been handled much more differently and nobody had to die.

I mean the only thing they should've told each other would be "the ship is sinking and their are 300 people trapped inside. We have to rescue them". If people would only be that clear they would've rescued far more children. When the boar was still half tilted the rescue workers shoulve gone inside and dragged everyone out but even the rescue workers seemed like they didn't care wat happened to the children... Wtf is this for crap goverment. The blue house is crap and the whole government is crap. They are demanding video clips but wat would they do with it? So they could watch children sink and die. Hey people, you saw this ? This world is not a safe place anymore, it’s a living hell. There’re more evils than good people, can you imagine how hurt it was for the parents to wait for their children to be rescued ? The most painful fact is that they’re waiting 40m underwater in a dark cabin, floating, freezing, for days, i wish i could jump inside the video and rescued all of them, i could feel their deep suffering inside until their last breath.
but God , this isn’t fair at all , why does innocent people have to go to heaven so fast ? My heart break into pieces , really.
After i learn that good people are about to reach extinction , i always learn how to be one , every simple things can make a person day’s better, can save them from hell.
Until I’m old enough to travel alone, I’ll visit the memorial places where they rest, see you soon, brothers sisters. My heart always have the space for all of you, Rest In Peace💫 🎗🎗
God, i prayed for those beautiful souls in heaven, wishing them to have a better life there. Amen 🙏

i cannot get my head around the fact that everybody seemed incapable of making decisions. they were like frozen people, just waiting. the captain can just as easily say, evacuate everybody. the coast guard can should have also done the same. the other adults in the ship, the teachers, why not lead the students to the deck when it is clear that they were about to sink and will be trapped underwater soon. the students, 17 years old already, they should have run outside, disregarding instructions. for sure they know that they will be trapped in their rooms? i dont know, when i was 17 we had a bombing in our school (philippines) and my professor told us to stay put, but i just grabbed her out of the room to safety, sure enough the bombers threw a pillbox bomb in our room. 17 year old filipinos would not hesitate to leave their rooms and even jump ship especially since they are wearing vest and that there were boats around and the land is visible.. the parents on the phone with their kids should have instructed them to get to the deck immediately, see if there were boats around and if the land is near, and then jump ship. my son now 10, i told him in case of fire or earthquake, to get outside as soon as possible. if the teacher is not leading them out immediately, i told him to leave everybody and get out to safety. ..i cannot understand, is this a cultural thing perhaps. the students should not have died at all if someone, just one person, told them to get out.

Within hours, they were acting like they knew everyone was dead already and there was no rush!
There was plenty of room for air pockets in that ship. I hope all the victims died quickly...but people can survive up to 72 hours if they get lucky. 😔
20:00 In these clips, the children of those parents could still be alive. Multiple people could be right there, slowly running out of air.
There are individuals who have been reported on, like the man who successfully survived for 3 days in a ship sitting on the Atlantic floor! He's not the only one.
72 hours has been calculated as the max based on the build up of CO2, hypothermia, and dehydration. I really hope no one had to suffer for that long.
So enraging. All Korea had to do was suck it up and let the US coast guard take over, honestly. They could've gotten it done. It is very difficult to rescue people from a submerged ship but it isn't impossible. The expert teams who have to rescued individuals from submerged ships had the people and all the necessary equipment available to help.

Some truths have come to light in the past few years: 1) Experts suggest that had 476 people not stayed put and instead started running towards the starboard (lilting) side, the boat would have immediately flipped over sending everyone into the freezing water with the boat capsizing on top of them. Rather, a better announcement would have been for everyone to try to get to the Port side (easier at first lilt) in order to get the ship to right itself. 2) The Korean Coast Guard had no divers trained to go into a submersed vessel. Rather than admit that they were absolutely powerless to do anything, they lied. But it's an important distinction. It's not that they didn't want to do anything, they simply couldn't in that moment. 3) The positioning of lifeboats on ships is a well known flaw. Even the Titanic has not been able to change this. When a ship is sinking, it does not sink straight down. This makes the lowering of at least half the lifeboats impossible. Yet to this day we still use the same design. Technology has made it possible for a life raft meant for two people to be stored in a backpack inflatable by the pull of a rope, which every passenger should have access to. The fact that this is not required on every ship is our own fault. Life vests are useless in most situations where hypothermia, not drowning, is the main killer. So we can sit here and shake our heads at the Sewol but it's only a matter of time before it happens again at any time in any place around the world.

see how the underside of the ship's bow is exposed and tilted at an angle? it is floating. meaning, there are air pockets in the ship. but at this point it is too late. most human beings can only survive for 2 hours in this water. the ship later sinks entirely on its side.

My two cents: if I was one of the students and I noticed the boat tilting I would've ran to the top deck or somewhere safe, even if I was told to stay in my cabin my thought process would be like "fuck that shit I'm heading up." The students naivety is what killed them in the end.

For short we know what we will do but they're just a guide.

i think this is because the recuers already thinking all the passengers had left because the captain which supposed to be the last person had already been recued, also because the order was "to stay where you are" so from the outside there are none left in the ferry and kinda dangerous jump into the tintled ship without getting the clear picture of the problem and lack of the communication between every institution make it worse

2024.06.08: THE FOLLOWING OLD POST IS COMPLETELY WRONG; I apologize for posting these errors! Reminder (2024.04.25): 세월호 had 3 Captains on 2014.04.16. 박한결 세월호 3등 was one of the three after promotion at sea. The others were Regular Captain Shin, still Captain on leave, and substitute Captain Lee. ¿Why was Captain Shin on leave? ¿How was Captain Lee selected? ¿Is there a video of 박한결 세월호 3등 disembarking about an hour after Captain Lee?

    • @SewolHoONCE
      @SewolHoONCE 7 днів тому

A review of Wikipedia told me that the, “Three Captains,” concept is completely WRONG! Former Captain Shin was fired; he was not on temporary leave. Captain Lee was a new-hire, not a temporary replacement. The Coast Guard changed the status of the Sewol from MV to floating navigation hazard at 0916. This command removed all officers and crew of the Sewol from further responsibly. Captain Lee was a civilian when he disembarked not wearing a captain’s uniform. Park Han-kyul also lost her commission at 0916, and therefore, was not qualified for promotion at sea. Ask the survivors, “¿Was there a Lifeboat Stations Drill during the first hour of the voyage?” (Parallel to the safety orientation given on passenger aircraft) The change with the greatest potential to have saved the students would have been a safety guide card on every bunk parallel to the safety card at every seat on a passenger airplane. ¿What was standard operating procedure on South Korean passenger vessels on 15 April 2014?

I don't know how any of these officials are able to sleep at night. They basically killed these kids.

All of the people onboard could and should have been rescued. The fact that they weren’t is awful. Criminal as well. It’s tantamount to manslaughter at least. Possibly murder. I just wished those kids had followed the example of the ones who escaped. The ones who didn’t listen to the stay put message and got out.
