You can call the park ahead of time and ask. There used to be a website to check out the flows but I lost it when I changed phones and don't have it anymore.
You're the only person I've ever seen fish that place the right way, You're right that place gets crazy and everybody cast straight across instead of go with the flow of the water. Good ol ortona
@@southwestfloridafishingand2174 they’re predicting a lot of rain this wet season so I’m sure the locks will be pumping. I’ve fished ortona and Moore Haven multiple times with no luck but can usually get on the coastal snook no problem
Nice snook. I can totally relate to the struggles of the net and things just creating small issues. Had to laugh a little at that. That’s fishing for ya!
@@southwestfloridafishingand2174 I’m in Fort Myers. Moved here from Michigan in September 2021. Interested in saltwater bank fishing. Never done it. No idea where to go. I used to do a lot of freshwater bank fishing as a young kid…many years ago. Haven’t done much since. Can anyone help? I have everything I need. Been buying stuff and preparing. I am looking for a nice quiet place to go, with very few people, so I can “practice”.
If the water is not running hard throw something light. There is a lot of big rocks there to prevent erosion when running and it is not that deep. Flairhawks, small jigs, flukes, and windcheaters are what I would normaly throw there.
I had to pause the video , I was laughing to much lol..... We've all been there when the things gone wrong. I learned to prepare everything before I make a cast...... rope fully extended ready to go, tape out and scale ready. If you ever catch a lunker a good way to get a weight on them is to get a scale that can read up to 50lbs, usually costs about 20 or 30 bucks, then weigh your fish inside of your drop net so you dont injure the fish.... record the total weight and release your fish. After that weigh your drop net and subtract the difference. Now you can keep track of your heaviest fish. Nice video.
After watching this, I made the trip out there from WPB last weekend (01/09/21), only to find out they shut down that side of the spillway because people weren't following the "Covid" guide lines, so the park manager said...So no crossing over the spillway allowed, and you can only fish from the wooded pier on the south side which is way to dang far away from the good moving water. Sucks!! Beautiful peaceful campground and surroundings though..
Hey man, I'll be down there mid May, just wanted to know if you would be interested in getting the lines wet? I'm an avid angler from Massachusetts. Going to be my first time in Florida. Keep up the good work with the videos. Tight lines!
Awesome man! Mid May I'm staying In a rental house in Cape Coral. I'm renting a SUV and gas and bait is on me! I'll bring you some custom lures and some gear for taking up my offer. Looking forward to hanging out! Enjoy the fishing until then! Brian~
@@southwestfloridafishingand2174 I just moved to SWFL (Fort Myers) from Michigan in September 2021. Used to freshwater bank fish a lot as a kid. Finding a quiet place is a real challenge almost any easily accessed spot has its set of regulars and the revolving door of tourists. That being said if I were to recommend spots to newcomers in the Fort Myers area to give it a go I would suggest these. The Matanzas bridge pier, Big Carlos bridge pass, and the set of bridges following that route to Bonita. Those areas all have good tidal movement and plenty of room to fish for people and not be crowded. Matlacha bridge and the Bokeelia fishing pier are good spots to check out but crowded. That being said the best way to find spots is to hop on google earth and just start searching.
@@southwestfloridafishingand2174 Right. I guess what I mean is just a place where everyone isn’t right on top of each other. I’ll pay you to take me on a “bank fishing charter”…lol. Thanks for the info.
