  • In this video, I left the boat at the dock and decided to try fishing a local spillway for snook by Tampa Bay, Florida. I've seen this spot by exploring Google Earth and also heard about it from some buddies. I didn't take long for me to start catching some fish.

As much as I really want to find this spot I completely respect your wishes at the beginning of the video. Fishing gets boring when there's too many people, not to mention over fishing.

Funny I fished this 20 years ago with a pro skater/solid fishing dude buddy of mine from down there. He had a battery operated aerator, a garbage can and a cast net. Cast netted a million shad from the lake, filled up garbage can with water and set up aerator. Live bait for days. So funny. I didn't know name or location but with a simple Google search of Tampa area lake spillway to canal I found your video. Good job asking folks to not name drop your spots. Stoked I could find someone fishing that spot from my memory. I thought I hooked a snook, took out the slack, set the hook hard and got hit in the face with an eel. Yuck.

  • @timh1123

This used to be a sort of secret 30 years ago. I stop by occasionally to get a snook bite but using artificials will more often than not get you exactly the size in the video if not smaller. There are daily regulars there at the good times. And then people at night that leave their freaking trash especially on the south side. Not worth a long drive to if you think this spot is magical. If you can't catch a slot size off Honeymoon or Dunedin causeway, or even Courtney Campbell you're doing something wrong. The lake side does have some decent bass and Mayans but not at that spot.

With the water temperature getting low you want to start fishing creeks, estuaries or spillways. Areas with darker or warmer water will be holding fish now. Live bait (shrimp, greenbacks, mullet) will be your best bet or you could use paddletails/swimbaits

    • @SeeYaDude

I use primarily 7' 6" rods and I recommend that for you if you're fishing mostly artificials or from the beach. That longer rod will help you get longer casts

Can't tell you how many snook are in that lake now from trying to pull them up over that spill way fishing in my boat hahaha . I would honestly throw green backs in that spot cause alot of shade fall over that dam and that's about the closest bait you can catch that resembles them.

Harris Scoggins because then you get people that will go there everyday and fish the spot until there’s no fish there anymore. Or you just get googs that litter and don’t take care of it, therefore ruining the spot.
