    Nice to see a fellow Floridian sharing his jig wrapping knowledge. I do my own pomp jigs and paint the heads but use epoxy once the paint has cured to keep the Mack’s and ladyfish from killing my custom mixed pink that they love.

    I'm an avid bucktail fisherman for striped bass up on Long Island, the deer hair is hollow , helps with buoyancy and it does flair out. Would love to try one of those they look awesome! Cool finish knot at the end as well.

    I gotta try this, must be rewarding to catch a fish on your own jig.

    Here's a little tip, start with a longer bunch of hair (maybe about 6 or 7") and start tying it to the jig at mid length. Do about 5 or 6 initial wraps and then grab the hair on both sides of the wrap and tug it around the jig to evenly distribute it radially. After it has been distributed, wrap tightly against both the top & bottom walls. Finally, pull the hair that is tied against the top wall toward the bottom and wrap a few more times against the bottom wall. Then add your tail and tie it off. This will save you a lot of time and also save a lot of hair. In my opinion, you are using way way way to much hair on those jigs. You can probably get by with half that amount. Otherwise, nice video.
    Also, if you don't want to buy a fancy tying vice, Harbor freight sells a small vise that mounts to a flat surface with a suction cup attachment. It works great and it dirt cheap.

    Could whip finish too. I tie my own flies/ pompano teasers and have had a lot of luck tying mini flair hawks on 1/2 ounce Charlie’s jig heads. Nice vid! Btw... the Mack’s are running hard in the hole off hobe sound right now. Commercial fisherman

    Great video. What’s the model number of the hooks you use for your jigs. I am thinking of getting a new mold made.
    Thanks

    What about painting the thread with a clear nail polish? I’ve done it for smaller jigs?

    • @sharkfish2424
      @sharkfish2424 6 років тому

      Tyler Charlton You can, if you do the right finish on the thread you don’t need anything. No need to waste more money when your gonna loose it on a rock!!

    Do you buy the asprinhead ? Or what kind of head do you buy from the retailer ?

  • @grandwonder5858

    Question: You said you bought all of your threads from Michael's, how did you get those spools of threads that you bought from Michael's to fit onto the Bobbin? Because when I tried to use those threads that I bought from Michael's they didn't fit my bobbin, the spools were simply too big for the bobbin!
