From a storytelling perspective, there is SO MUCH going in these two scenes. 1. He's a social introvert intimidated by other people, and now he's surrounded by very intimidating older men. 2. They think he's the wrong guy and force him to do something he can't do. 3. Not only does he try to do it anyway, he really GOES for it. 4. He's terrible. 5. They still can't tell it's the wrong guy, and actually double down and back up what he's doing instead. 6. He pulls it off so well, the dude on coke is moved to tears. Brilliant writing.
I think he also said in the DVD commentary that Seth Rogan had originally written the song to be a rap, but opted for this and then put rap in his partially written Drilbit Taylor movie. A good move in my opinion
See, I was very confused by this scene. I thought he had to unlock the power of an ancient mystical force to lead a rebellion against his father in a galaxy far far away. Thanks man!
@@papabird4425well some people would just perceive it as mindless filler which would be true of most comedies made around superbads time. Everything in Superbad is thought out and tied together very neatly.

They would always quote this scene to each other and I never knew it was an actual song until they told me and I liked listening to it here and there. Years later I decided to learn how to play this song on guitar and now when I'm around them, as soon as I start playing and sing "These eyes..." they both laugh and start singing it with me lol.

His reaction after the guy closes the door makes me LMFAO every time. I've been in awkward situations where I had to become "distracted" by something nearby as well
When I was 18, I was flat broke and really wanted to get drunk. I was walking home from a friends house and passed by a house that was having a party. I seen cars parked everywhere so I went up, knocked on the door and some random guy opened it. I asked if "Gina" and "Sarah" was there. He said he didn't know, I said they told me they were going to a party here and told me to meet them here. I asked if I could come in and look for them or wait until they got here. He was like, "sure come on in" I made it to the kitchen fridge, stuffed all my coat pockets with beer and left before anyone said......"Hey, who's that guy?"
Oh my god. The guy with the afro and the sports club jacket reminds me of myself back in 2013. Jeez. Give me 1.5 to 2 years and my hair would look exactly like his.
This scene was based on an actual house party Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and real life Fogell went to back home in Vancouver when they were 14 so probably in 1996. A comedian Seth knew from doing stand up was having a going away party and since none of the kids could drive Seth’s mom drove them and accompanied them to the party which was sketchy like in the movie. Not long after they got there everyone “started doing blow” and a pig (yes a pig) ran out from God knows where and bit Evan on the foot. Seth and Evan beautifully recount this story on the DVD commentary haha.
