Amazing Ski Weekend in Bend, OR!

Before Bend, Oregon was known as “Craft Beer City, USA”, it was known for having the sixth largest ski area in the country. With two very different ski areas within 45 minutes of downtown, we decided to try them both. Mt. Bachelor for day skiing and Hoodoo for night skiing.
Mt. Bachelor boasts over 4000 skiable acres and widely varied terrain. It sits in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, so it boasts a high number of blue sky days, drier powder than most areas in the Pacific Northwest and yet over 400” of snow per year. It’s a higher end ski area with higher end prices, but a higher end experience as well.
Just 30 minutes outside of Bend, Mt. Bachelor offers some of the driest snow in the region along with a large number of blue sky ski days, as well as the six most skiable acreage in the country.
Not to be out done, we decided to relive one of our teen years favorite pastimes by enjoying some night skiing at Hoodoo Ski area at Santiam Pass. Hoodoo is not as pristine as Bachelor, nor does it offer the same acreage of lightness of powder, but it does have night skiing that’s not available elsewhere in Central Oregon and an amazing beer and nachos offering for that relaxing apres ski.
