Another great video. It’s good that Travis recognized he didn’t need to keep pushing through. That’s a dangerous situation. I’m glad things worked out.
Section 3 and Section 5 were my favorites, but I agree about airing down. I won't go lower than 20psi on the Tenere and mostly ran about 23-25 and have never pinch flatted. Some people run stupidly low pressures on bigger bikes and you get what you would expect.
It was hard to tell if you were happy about being outta the desert 😜 Section 3 looked like a riot! How lucky are you guys to get a resupply from Grace 👍🏻
Amaizing riding and scenery. Thanks for taking us your adventure through section 3. Great decision making on Trav to know to tap out and give his body a chance to fully recover. Love the singing.
Watch all your videos and really enjoyed this. Have done 7-3 solo and was so fun to see familiar spots. Even rode up Pine Mountain and camped in a dusty crappy spot outside Bend….no steaks or beer,
Lol I had that same grill Tim has. Cooked on it for the last time on the MABDR in a thunder storm. It went into the garbage the next day. Royal pita to set up.
Laid my bike down in a sandy corner in that whoops section north of Pine Mtn. Crank case landed on a sharp rock. Quarter-sized hole in it. Careful out there. Will take a looong time to get rescued out there. But so much fun until then.
Jacked my knee going up Pine Mountain, 3 weeks later I can walk on it some. Fortunately we did the whoops section before going up the mountain, man was that fun!
We just got back from doing sections 7-3 this morning so thanks for the trip down memory lane Ben! 3 and 5 were my favorites, stupidly fun. The Olallie TBD section was great too. Threw in a trip up China Hat for extra credit. The biggest surprise was the whoop-fest north of Pine mtn. Well played @nathanfant!
Looks like y'all are having a great time! Like you- the high desert is more to my liking! On a side note- could you punch a couple of holes in the front fender, add some d-rings and secure the tool bag a little more effectively? Or maybe pick up a good, used fender and modify it for these longer rides?
Watched video 2 and 3 today. I think I would start at christmas and skip the hard desert as well. I crossed it once, that was enough. looks like you really were having fun!
Though the earlier lyrics might not have been up to par the singing, tone and vibrato were spot on! Loving this series so far, makes me want to trade in my 790 Adventure for a premium dual sport.
I’ve taken my factory height Tahoe all around the Newberry area, roads she was challenging to be on 😂 There’s one road I marked on my map “Road From Hell.” It is absolutely gnarly after the show melt this year (2023). Ruts that if I parked my truck I could crouch comfortably under the entire chassis. But it was so steep there’s no way I could stop my momentum and keep going again.
Great video man! YOU sir have a voice! Very entertaining, and a great tour of the new rout, I'm close in Albany :) and looking forward to this ride . Trav, very glad to know your good, that is scary. Been there. GWQ
It sucks that Trav had to leave early but it's better to be safe than to be sorry. Get well soon Trav! Great video otherwise and I can't wait to get away from Eugene and start the OR BDR. Your videos are giving me good insight as to what I can expect to come across. 😆
sweet adventure guys. I need to go moto camping soon. haven't gone out all year. Only thing is we can't have fires right now.. heck they are barely allowing us to even keep riding off road out here right now the danger is so high. (North Central Washington)
Its videos like this that really make me wanna get an ADV bike and start learning to ride off road. Also, Tim cooks? Lol. He was always raiding my kitchen when the crockpot was running. :P
Very cool. Guest apperance by Grace and some great riding. Can't wait until the next episode. Also does Tim hear you thru coms while your are riding? if so he must laugh the entire ride.
At 20 minutes 48 seconds in where they turned onto that OHV trail. There is a prize hidden behind a tree. I put it there for Travis have not been able to get back to pick it up. If anybody finds it is yours for the taking
Do they not know about bump gates in Oregon? Here in Texas, we have big gates on hinges. You push them open with your front wheel to get them moving and then as they swing away from you, you cut to the inside and get through. The gate will then swing back to closed, just don't be in the way though or you will get swatted to the ground like a bug.
Loving this series. Would love to take Bubba J and the Mrs on the ORBDR. After riding this route, could we do it in our Tacoma pickup? Yes, we use Gaia on the bike and in our truck when we are overlanding and love it.
Awesome chronical of your trip[ !! im looking forward to the rest !! we are leaving 08/06 to u-haling em 1 way to Lakeview then catching the BDR from there so i think we will be hitting it about/around the lake Abert area after Plush off of 395 so skipping section 1 and 2 i think ?? =ish , we also are incorporating the first 3 or so sections of the WABDR to get us back home to Wenatchee so that makes up for it and then some distance wise + im a bit afraid of that desert heat myself
Hey Dork, its really hard to determin the speed you're going on the video. Would it be possible to occasionally show or say what mph you're going? Cheers, Jim
Did you know that if you rearrange the first letters of each word in "Dork in the Road" it spells "DiRt"? Shout out to Tim and a big get well to Travis 👍
Question - I recently completed a trip and tried to use an Osmo Action 1 on a chin mount with an adapter and lapel mike. The sound was completely useless. At real slow speeds I could hear it but still too much noise. At higher speeds, lots of wind noise and crackle, again so useless. In one of your prior videos you indicated that you used an "Insta360 One RS" but what do you use for sound on that? Do you use the "X3 Mic Adapter"? Which Microphone do you use? Living in Canada I don't always have access to the same Amazon items you do in the U.S. (like the purple panda lapel mic) so I'm interested in what you use and if there is anything I should be looking out for. Also, to mount the mic, do you just tape it up in the chin piece of your helmet? I use a Shoei Neotec 2. Oh and the adhesive failed on my Chin Mount so I resorted to using gorilla tape to hold it all together. Ugly and on dirt / gravel (trip on the Dempster to Tuktoyaktuk) with lots of vibration even the gorilla tape only last a couple of days. Thanks.
We did it on 3 Teneres. I didn't make it, but the other two did. But I don't blame the bike, shit happens. Woulda been a bit easier on my DRZ, but the Tenere did fine.
I bought the GiantLoop fender bag a couple of years ago and used it one time as a fender bag. It makes the handling terrible off-road when on the front fender, thereby rendering it useless as designed. I have recently found use for it attached as molly to my paniers. Don't buy it as a fender bag, though, a total waste of money.

May I ask you a personal question? How old are you? When did you begin dual sporting? I am 63 however I feel that this is a young man sport
Beeerrsss & Steaks esp in the woods = life is good
Heat stroke is serious business. Good call on Trav's part to cut the trip short.
Just the fact that you found the moment in the video where you lost that fender bag. Wild!
Just pure dumb luck I had the camera on when it happened.
Thank you for the update on Travis! I'm glad that he got in to see a doc. Hope he's had a solid recovery!
I like how you are real, informative, but also have a good sense of humor. I plan to do the full ORBDR in two weeks. I’m looking forward to it.
So much awesome in this video.
Thanks so much!

Concur! Sections 3 and 5 had me laughing out loud in my helmet. Ridiculously fun!
Great video Ben! You and Tim are great with each other. Sorry to see Travis get heat stroke. Very dangerous and scary.
Ben and Tim for the win.
every time, apparently ;)
It was hard to tell if you were happy about being outta the desert 😜
Section 3 looked like a riot!
How lucky are you guys to get a resupply from Grace 👍🏻
I run 15lbs in the dirt on my 450L and 26 on the street and have not had a flat yet, Knock on wood. Running Dunlap 606 on the back.
Air down for problems. 😊 This video made me happy. Your singing is fine.
Amaizing riding and scenery. Thanks for taking us your adventure through section 3. Great decision making on Trav to know to tap out and give his body a chance to fully recover. Love the singing.

I usually notch the fender to keep the hooks a little more secure but got in a hurry before this trip.
Yes good call .. It's important to train a little before a big ride ... it takes a ton out of ya if your doing right !!😂
This is such a happy motovlog 👍
Great riding bud

If you're riding in that general area, I highly HIGHLY recommend detouring over to Paulina Peak lookout. STUNNING views up there.😃😃😃
I agree. It's fantastic. No time on this trip though.
@@DorkintheRoad Mentioning it for viewers. Had no doubt you'd been there before. 😊

Love your work, another great trip. Don’t know how to say this politely but - maaate, that singing’s gotta go!! 😂
Some people just don't appreciate art ;)
Wow. It looks like it wouldn't be terrible to camp right there in the "'high desert"' !
Can't wait to get a Honda CRF 300 Ralley and ride that trail looks
awesome!

Thank you. Far too many sourpuss amateur Simon Cowells in the comments. Some people have no sense of humor.
I want to hear the full version of 'On the Road Again', we need an album of trail riding tracks from Ben!
I'll get out on the bike and do some more composing ;)
I'm loving this series. Looks like a blast. I'm sure your an awesome dude and friend : but : I couldn't link com units with you on a long ride. 😅🍻

We're leaving as much detail in as possible for that exact reason. I want people who attempt the route to know what they're getting into
@DorkintheRoad thank you! I know others and I truly appreciate your efforts Ben.🤘🏻

Thanks Dork another great video
I’ve not had luck with a fender bag. I have a fender bag with all the tire changing stuff, but I typically keep it in a duffle bag or side bag
I should have notched the fender and checked the tension every day but was in a hurry and didn't. :(
@@DorkintheRoadwhen the suspension fully compress the tire will eat through the Velcro straps, right ?
All the mtns in Oregon and this is the route they choose? Probably wouldn't be hard to make a better personalized route.
been trail riding since I was 16 "41 now" and never aired down, never had a pinch flat.

Not a stock Tacoma, no. Need more articulation for the washed out rain ruts and there are some parts of section 1 that are basically singletrack.
@@DorkintheRoad
Our Taco has a 3” lift with 33” Nitto off-road tires. Single track would worry me

Hey what do you wear top wise in summer ? Armor ?
Awesome video dude but you would hate trail riding in the UK, gates everywhere!
LOVE the singing. I'm glad I'm not the only one to entertain myself by singing random nonsense and custom lyrics.
Hey Dork, its really hard to determin the speed you're going on the video. Would it be possible to occasionally show or say what mph you're going?

Missed an opportunity to do a VH1 pop up video on this one 😂
Love the videos. Did you get rid of your Norden?
Yeah I sold it a while ago. It was not very popular with most of my audience.
Looks fun Ben, Question: how far does your 3gal tank take you on the 450?
About 110 miles, depending on how heavy I am on the throttle.
Trav didn’t drink out of that stale pond you highlighted I hope 😳
nah, he just swam in it
@@DorkintheRoad yuck 😂
Song requests... Cowboy, on the steel horse I ride.... Been through the desert on a hose with no name... I've been everywhere man... Thanks.

I can't find the link for the discount with Gaia?
Is it the tire's, or the bike? Your 450 seems to just float over the sand. What tires are you using?
It's the speed at which I'm hitting it, mostly. The tires help, though. Tusk D-Sports.
@@DorkintheRoad I need to test ride the 450rl. I'm pretty sure it will be my next purchase

For an experienced/expert rider, no. For a beginner? Absolutely.
Why didn't Tim ride the 500?
Because he bought a 690
ima sound like a total idiot, but what does BDR stand for?
Hahahha 16:15 ..... gold.
“Sand”. Drink!

Lol yeah maybe half of them?
I had to use the mute button once you started singing for the second time. Brutal man.
I could do without the singing.
You want to dress down and slow down in the desert, wearing that much gear is just ridiculous in those conditions.
Armor and a mesh jersey with mesh pants is ridiculous? Would you ride it in a Speedo or something?
