I recently completed my first build (a Tele, of course) and I'm about to start number two: an LP Jr. Your playlists will guide me and I can't thank you enough for your thorough walkthroughs... it's like having your own personal tutor with built in rewind and fast forward controls! Cheers to you, pal!
Hi Patrick. Brilliant do-hickey plug to position the template. Then use later for the cover plate. I always learn something cool from you. As always, you Rock! Thanks and love your show.
I love seeing a Katsu router being used in such quality work. I've even got the plunge base for mine. ...except it burnt out the motor when I asked too much of it levelling a top in a router sled so it died and I need to replace it.
As always, your guitar builds are fun and educational to watch. Good problem solving techniques - may have to copy a couple for myself. Thanks for sharing your guitar building journeys with Us Tubers
I'm glad you said it was deeper than the standard body depth, otherwise I thought it was my imagination !! Looking forward to seeing this build and what TV finish you go for. Nice one Pat
That thickness is so resonant. I love how mine sounds plugged in but also acoustic. I have a stud finder bridge on mine and it makes intonation so much easier.
@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams if I remember correctly the stud placement for the bridge was not designed well / correctly. I certainly don’t know if there’s any worth in correcting the stud placement but may be a consideration?
Off to a great and beautiful start. I love the thick profile of these simple brutes! Combined with the "baseball bat" neck, their tuning stability is all but inherent. I also think that beefiness is a major ingredient in the universally loved tone of the Junior.
Love your videos, mate. You always create interesting builds that are a little different than the usual tele, etc. It's really inspiring seeing your process. Keep them coming!
Cheers, nope, going to keep this one pretty simple. I've often thought of doing a junior plus with a nice drop top and binding, perhaps even gold hardware. One day maybe.
What is the body thickness of a vintage JR?..is it 1 5/8"?.. how do you prefer to get body thickness correct?..before glueing up or after.. seems running the risk of tear out on a cut body .. I did pick up a DeWalt planer recently for a staircase project.. width is 13" ..which should be perfect for guitar bodies.. (always have that in mind when getting equipment.. lol)
The drawing I have shows the body thickness at 1 13/16" or a touch over 46mm, they are chonky beasts! I usually run the body timber through my thicknesser until it's a touch over fine size before I glue the blank up. Easy to sand down to dimention from there. Sadly my thicknesses only goes to 8 inch.
That’s a nice joint! Beautiful thick piece of mahogany to work with too.
Cheers, yes a really nice bit of wood.
That's the glue line, (or lack thereof), we should all aspire for.
Cheers buddy, I was very happy with it.

That chunk of wood looks delicious for the reasons I can't explain 😁😁
It really does have some nice figure, I hope it will show through the finish.

Hope it was useful for you.

They are a great little router but you have to know their limits, that's two tools in two weeks you've beasted!!
Love the doohickey for the cavity
Me too, it's a nice little trick :)

Cheers buddy, glad you are enjoying :)
Haven't watch yet. But i liked already😂
I like you style :)
Always fun to see your progress.
Cheers :)
How quickly it’s coming along compared to some of your other builds!
Yes, these are a pretty straight forward build. Still fun though.
I'm glad you said it was deeper than the standard body depth, otherwise I thought it was my imagination !! Looking forward to seeing this build and what TV finish you go for. Nice one Pat
It's only a touch thinker. these juniors are a chonky beast.

I'm going for a standard wraparound on this one but know that the intonation is always going to be an issue.

I totally agree, I love my other Juniors and you can give them a right thrashing and the stay in tune great.
A great choice of guitar Patrick.
Juniors are just great, I love them.
nice looking grain
Cheers, I'm really happy with it.

Thanks buddy, great to hear that :)
Good start. Am enjoying this already.... Onwards..... 👍🎸🎸🎸 Are you going to be adding any binding on this one just to be a bit different?
Cheers, nope, going to keep this one pretty simple. I've often thought of doing a junior plus with a nice drop top and binding, perhaps even gold hardware. One day maybe.
Thanks for sharing your own tricks! Simple but looks fantastic yet.
Cheers, glad you like it :)
Awesome Pat. Nearly too pretty to paint! How does the sapele work compared to mahogany?
Cheers, it's very similar in my opinion. You have to keep an eye on the grain as it can tear out if you are not careful but otherwise works fine.
I am currently of the same mindset concerning routing the body outline. I have had some unfortunate chip outs recent,y
There is always more than one way to skin a cat :)
Wow, didn't realize they were so chunky.
I think some are less chunky than others but the plan I have for the late 50's model is a chunky beast.
Great job. What hardware are going to use? I have a special with a Gotoh 510 wraparound which is brilliant.
I have a Faber bridge and some wilkinson tuners, that's about it on these!!
👍
:)
Left handed guitar? Or will the control cavity go through the body?
Right handed, the controls go through the top of the body.

@@Adventuresfromtheshedofdreams I am hoping my DeWalt 735x will be a good tool for future bodies..
Quick question, I see the template as the pickup position is at the neck instead of the bridge. Is that a preferance?
NVM, I asked too early. Should have watched more of the video? lol.
No worries, glad you go there :)
Yes, sapele will rip out on you in a hear beat if you are not careful.
Yep, much safer with the sander.
