Really coming together now. I'd be so tempted to get some strings on it!

The finishing is obviously just as important as any step imo, not sure why some folks wouldn’t be into following it. For me, it’s typically the longest too heh, I just keep finding spots as I go and it always seems never ending here ahah!
    As always, thanks.

On a quick side note Pat, I picked up three drill bits via Stew Mac for wire routes and they are exceptionally long. So long where I’m able to even put a nice bend into the thing as I’m drilling to really get a lateral hole. They work beautifully, sadly I don’t remember what I paid though but rest assured if it’s Stew Mac it’s a small King’s ransom LOL! I figure they’ll last forever though since they just aren’t used as much as you also mentioned 🤙

Sorry about the multi-comments here, can’t wait to see your finish here. I did a TV yellow Strat a while back and I didn’t do the grain fill after like your going to do here. You can see the grain pretty clearly however it’s not quite as dark as I’d like it to be either ( It’s a very light Swamp Ash body 3.3 pounder and a 1-piece ). After you do this one here I may just refinish mine here so I’m very curious to see the outcome 🤙
Thanks again, you and Twoodfrd are my favorite build channels. If you haven’t seen his channel definitely give it a peak, it’s outstanding really.

Cheers Tommy, the sanding does seem to go on forever but it's worth it. I love the way the guitar is transformed by the finish almost instantly!

I love the finishing part. To me it's what makes a guitar come to life. I'm building a Pine Tele right now with P-90's and I was going to go Surf Green...now you got me thinking TV Yellow. LOL!

Fret press probably made the world of difference to the fret heights. Watched a really interesting vid only yesterday by something like MonsterGuitars (I think it was, Aussie/Kiwi sounding bloke with a beard) with the school of thought that most times you don’t need to file frets as, in theory, the fingerboard is straight you just just press/tap the high ones in more. Great tip for the stud removal!

I've seen a few videos on how a TV Yellow finish is done with the filler applied after the white or yellow or amber is first sprayed. I'm eager to see how you do it, after all, I'll be doing one for my next build. This guitar is looking great!

Lookin great man! You're still one of the best when it comes to build series. Loved the Firebird, and now I think I'm going to build an SG so I'll be soaking up those videos you made. And this is one I'll be building as well. Thanks for sharing it all.

Wood prep still needs to be good on a solid color paint guitar but not crazy perfect like on a burst or tans stain. Really want to see paint on this guitar Patrick.

Yep, you can hide a lot with a good thick coat of finish :) Hoping to keep this one as thin as I can though.

Looking great, Patrick. Not long to go now. Are you going to have rolled edges on this one? I didn't think there could be so much wood dust left on the body at the end... I think your attention to detail is outstanding. I am looking forward to the next video . 👍🎸🎸🎸🎸

Cheers, I think I got all of the dust out! Which edges do you mean??

    • @miketurner1768
      @miketurner1768 Рік тому

The fret board edges. I am a big fan of rolling over those,as I have had many guitars that feel too sharp when bought new.

Or you throw a half-lengh wooden dowel into the stud and simply screw the bold in ! Check it out next time . Great job so far !

I've never used grain filler on any of my 50+ builds. Wood is a natural material, and as such should have texture and character. I never really liked a high gloss, mirror finish on a guitar.

Horses for courses really, I like a nice glossy finish, always made wiping the sweat and beer off easy after gigs :)

Nice job Patrick don't Gibson put a Holly veneer on their headstocks( mind you if it's being painted gloss black I suppose it's of no consequence!) Suggestions getting thin how about a Hayman 2020 or 3030 ( yes I predate Shergold guitars!).👍
