Love the Flowmaster idle and when you lay it to the carpet but the Cherry Bomb just hands down has that old school dirty awesome sound throughout the entire show.
love that "let off the gas" with the Cherry Bombs...those rule IMO. Had a '68 Rebel SST at 17 with the best blown-out Cherry Bomb full dual exhaust I've ever heard. And I'm in my mid '40s.
My favorite year Chevelle! I had a Flowmaster on my Z28, but I am a fan of both. Hearing both puts a huge smile on my face. Nothing better than hearing the sound of a badass muscle car. Great video! 😎🤘
I've had both cherries and flowmasters on my vehicles and it really comes to preference. Personally, I love the cherry bombs, they feel free flowing and really aggressive but not everyone wants that. Some people like the moderate sound of a nice chambered exhaust note and a subtle cruising tone (which is nice on long trips) but My vote goes to the cherries
Thanks for putting this video. Many times I’ve thought of getting flow masters. I have a 72 skylark with a 350 with duals with glass packs & I love it.
Gᴜᴛꜱ • ᏖᏂᏋ ᏂᎧᏬᏁᎴ Ꭷƒ ᎴᏗᏒᏦᏁᏋᏕᏕ not the mufflers it’s all about the motor of course a drag car is gonna have a thump it’s a cammed high compression motor any muffler would do that with a motor like that
I love them both, except I think that each exhausts have their own personality. the cherry bomb is for that old muscle V8 sound you always hear and the flowmaster is for the new deep roaring sound.
Getting this 8 years late! Back in the early 80s as a kid, I rebuilt a ‘70 Chevelle SS, 396 .060, 427 heads…with Hooker headers and Cherry Bombs. It was sweet! I used to back it out of my girlfriends sloped driveway and start it halfway down the street if I left too late, but of course her dad always knew 😂.
Cherry Bombs hands down! I just ordered a set of Magnaflow Glass Packs tonight and if they sound half as good as your old-school Cherry bombs I will be happy! Love your Chevelle btw.
THE FLOWMASTERS!! Sweet mother of muscle cars that was beautiful, :') oh and the car is too btw The old muscle cars sound a lot better than the new ones.
Not that the Flows don't sound menacing and wonderful...but they're more at home on a modern V8. The glass packs have such a classic, throaty sound - they belong on the classic!
+AlexCoronaPhoto Flowmaster was founded in 1983. I think they have an annoying hollow-metal-can sound. And they don't flow that well. All those baffles and chambers create drag. Straight-through mufflers are the way to go.
thats kinda the opposite. the flowmaster produce false percussion with the internal flow dividers. Cherry bombs are a straight thru design. So flowmaster are fake sounding and cherrybombs are the real engine noise.
***** i wouldnt say false percussion. It filters out the fart noise from the engine while cherrybombs arent mufflers, just extra pipe. Thats how i see it. I understand what you mean though
+gwmax11 i have super 44's on my 1997 ram 1500 with a 5.2 318 V8. They have a pretty aggressive pop after you let off the gas. they also have a pretty mean and deep throaty sound as you climb the RPM's. they dont drone when cruising at all, but if you accelerate at all, they definitely awaken a demon
Oh nice! Are you running with the stock cat on your ram 1500? I put a Y dual exhaust with the flow master 44, only cut back a little noise, didn't really change the tone, cat already acts like a muffler - on my 2001 Ram 1500 Sport 5.9L/360.
yep, stock cat. the 44 is pretty darn old though. i have a y pipe straight out the back with 3" tips. it gives the truck a good solid truck tone. it doesnt go over the top and give it that ridiculous old school sound that doesnt belong on the new school stuff
i got a super 40 muffler years back and liked the deeper note it gave. id been around flo pro exhaust many times working at a repair shop and liked their quality and prices are good. for my small block i stuck some flo pro super v mufflers on it and they get alot of compliments. the only thing is they hide the cam chop a little but if you know what your hearing you know its got a nice cam. but the delta chamber scatters the cam pops and they ding and ting around in the muffler you just get big low booms out of the tail pipe. no real exhaust drone on the road and you can talk comfortably with the windows up or down. but when you step on it everyone comes running cause it sounds like monster jam. its a very unique sound on the roads.
I've had both the cherry bombs and the Flowmasters and I definitely prefer the Cherry bombs. When I was a kid my dad had these mufflers from California called Smitty steel packs and he had them on his 66 Impala SS and they were awesome awesome but they got banned. Definitely like the Cherry Bombs
I also had an 86 Monte Carlo SS and I had the older version of the Flowmasters and I went to a muffler shop and I told the guy that I would give him the Flowmasters if he would just put straight pipes in place of the mufflers and he did it so I had straight pipe exhaust on it and it sounded awesome even though it was a 305 HO with a 50 hp chip in it.
That crackle can get tiring, but does sound great. Also when you stop them at the axle, they lose a lot of that fine tone you get when going to the bumper.
cherry bombs , flowmaster is nice but cherry bombs at high end range sound better the idle makes it sound more like a diesel but once u get movin its better :P
Awesome video, the Flowmaster is my favorite, they sound rich and throaty, I've got 3 inch 44's with an x-pipe on my Chevelle dumping before the axle, its over kill for a mild 350 ci but i love it ! Lol
I would say glasspacks!! I love that raspy tone I have a 72 buick skylark with a 350 4barrel we had all new 2.5 pipes run out the back at 45s and had thrush welded mufflers installed sounds good but after winter we are putting glasspacks in place of the mufflers just gives it an old sound and loud
I don't care what anyone says. Cherry bombs are the equivalent of straight pipe. Loud and obnoxious. Flowmaster gives you the real sound of the engine. Not crackles
I appreciate the video. Just came back for a listen after getting dual Thrush glasspacks. I'm guessing they're the exact same thing. Probably made in the same factory.
Glass packs flow & sound so much better than any Flowmasters (aka: slowmasters) do on old muscle cars. Slowmasters stifle the power down like any other turdo muffler does as anyone who runs at the track see's on their time stamp when compared. My old 69 Superbee set off car alarms just by me driving by them...lol I loved that ride & if I knew gas was going to todays levels I would have kept it for sure. Gas over $3 a gal while only getting 6mpg sucked the fun right out of it.. What a blast though.
The flow masters sound amazing for years! I put two on my 2002 Mustang GT 5speed car over 16years ago still they shine no rust at all on them car's got off road flat X pile , cat delete but still running 4 O2senor so computer can run the tune that is in it properly!! Flowmasters last n last!!! Sound great whole time!! All else rust away or will cost you more then car ur putting them on !!
I have flowmarster system on my Chevelle have had it in there for years now but that 2000rpm drone is killing me, love the old school sound of the cherry bombs do that drone to or are they more quiet inside the car
Here's a wild exhaust idea for anyone that's interested. Have your 2.5" true duals met into a Y-collector (dual 2.5" inlets into single 3"outlet), then put on your 3" muffler of choice, into a 3.75" single exhaust the dumps down, just before the rear axle. I used a Summit Racing glasspack muffler when I did this on an old Ford van I used to have.
+baghead727 1970 is my favorite year of Chevelle. Personally I use Magnaflow SS mufflers but given the choice of glass packs versus Flowmasters, definitely the Flows for a more powerful 'sound'. Did this car come with a Power Glide?
85 Trans Am TPI with a FlowMaster Super 44, but after seeing/hearing this video, I think I'm gonna give Summit Racing an order for a couple of Cherry Bombs!
I had a 1966 f100 with 352v eight put the cherry bombs on and love the sound now have a 2019 it also has cherry bombs on it now old school sound out of new technologies awesome love the sound
Glass packs sounds more correct on a 50s to 60s build but newer needs flowmasters. I can never get past the light popping sound glass muffler has so everything I got gets a 40 series delta flow. Love that deep tone
Is the flowmaster really "true duals" or with h or c pipe? It's amazing how many people have a cross over and still label them true duals. Flowmaster all the way. I'm actually doing true dual Spintech on my modern Hemi. Debated adding an h pipe but I want the loudest sound possible just hope it don't sound bad/raspy/rattlely at wide open throttle.
Cherry bomb no question, cant beat a true classic, and that purr cherry bombs do make me smile! Flows dont have that mean old purr sound, and honestly i think all v8s with flowmasters sound the same, be different and stand out from the crowd. You get better sound and its cheaper than flows, just my opinion though 😆
am I the only one that loved the cherry bombs instead of the flowmaster? (sounds like a true classic hot rod imo)
I'm with you. I don't like flowmaster on anything. Always sounds like a tin can. So hollow. The cherry bombs sound throaty
I agree with you. Flows are great for a 6 or 4 cyl and glass packs on a V8 sound best, funny since people always get it backwards
cherry bombs bring out the muscle in American muscle
ive got chery bombs on my 98 silverado with a vortec 350 and I love it.
i put the cherry bombs on my 69 elcomino ss its sounds bad ass
Love the Flowmaster idle and when you lay it to the carpet but the Cherry Bomb just hands down has that old school dirty awesome sound throughout the entire show.
love that "let off the gas" with the Cherry Bombs...those rule IMO. Had a '68 Rebel SST at 17 with the best blown-out Cherry Bomb full dual exhaust I've ever heard. And I'm in my mid '40s.
"Back crackle" love it...
Flowmasters sound way better at idle. That sound is iconic
My favorite year Chevelle! I had a Flowmaster on my Z28, but I am a fan of both. Hearing both puts a huge smile on my face. Nothing better than hearing the sound of a badass muscle car. Great video! 😎🤘
Cherry Bomb Glasspacks. Definitely
The cherrybombs sounded better to me
I agree!
Great back to back demo.
Your video shows a better comparison, than the big $ versions that the manufacturers make.
Well done!
I preferred the sound of the cherry bomb mufflers.
Ch ch ch ch cherry, cherry bomb!
Nah, straight pipes.
I personally like the lower rumble of the Flowmaster 44s. The Cherry bomb sounds great too, but the Flowmasters have my vote.
Flowmaster tones for sure.
Nah, they're tinny AF.
Those cherry bombs brought back memories of all the tri-fives and early 60s chevys that ran the streets of my old neighborhood when I was a kid.
Thanks for putting this video. Many times I’ve thought of getting flow masters. I have a 72 skylark with a 350 with duals with glass packs & I love it.
Cherry Bombs get my vote.
The cherry bomb glasspacks make the best exhaust sounds ever
The flow masters sounded too hollow, there's no meat to them.
No meat? Haven’t you ever been to an NHRA drag race? The Flows make it sound like a super stock race car with the thumping idle.
Yeah, until you feel them in person. Flowmasters have bass to them.
Gᴜᴛꜱ • ᏖᏂᏋ ᏂᎧᏬᏁᎴ Ꭷƒ ᎴᏗᏒᏦᏁᏋᏕᏕ not the mufflers it’s all about the motor of course a drag car is gonna have a thump it’s a cammed high compression motor any muffler would do that with a motor like that
Chambered mufflers sound tinny
Flowmasters aren't bad. Best flowmasters for chevy small block is the super 10s. Best sounding muffler ive heard other than cherry bomb glasspacks
Man those super 44 sounds amazing
Stacy David (Gearz) did a show a while back on Cherry Bombs.History, toured the plant, and interviews.
Cherrybombs
I love them both, except I think that each exhausts have their own personality. the cherry bomb is for that old muscle V8 sound you always hear and the flowmaster is for the new deep roaring sound.
Borla atak
Do you mean a tinny sound?
Getting this 8 years late!
Back in the early 80s as a kid, I rebuilt a ‘70 Chevelle SS, 396 .060, 427 heads…with Hooker headers and Cherry Bombs.
It was sweet!
I used to back it out of my girlfriends sloped driveway and start it halfway down the street if I left too late, but of course her dad always knew 😂.
My pap had a 69 SS 396 that had cherry bombs and he told me he raised so much hell in it.
thanks, I've always liked glass packs. they sound good when you are just driving normally.
Glasspacks sounded amazing flow master sounded like there was a paint can rattling at the end of the pipe
Cherry Bombs hands down! I just ordered a set of Magnaflow Glass Packs tonight and if they sound half as good as your old-school Cherry bombs I will be happy! Love your Chevelle btw.
+GeorgeBonez what is the verdict? is the magnaflow as good as cherry bomb??? was wondering this myself.. thank you.
THE FLOWMASTERS!! Sweet mother of muscle cars that was beautiful, :') oh and the car is too btw
The old muscle cars sound a lot better than the new ones.
I have my glass packs sounding quite when it idle's and loud when I'm on the throttle. It's definitely fun to drive
i like the flowmaster. sounds more lopey. i like the hollow sound. sounds more like the old style chambered mufflers from the old days.
thank YOU
Oliver Standen its because they are ;)
I know right! it sounds kind of like a motorcycle
Cause the idle was lower..
probs cause the idle is set lower
Not that the Flows don't sound menacing and wonderful...but they're more at home on a modern V8. The glass packs have such a classic, throaty sound - they belong on the classic!
you said it!
flowmasters have been around since the 70s, those glasspacks sound like shit. I personally prefer turbo style mufflers.
+AlexCoronaPhoto you realize glasspacks where made in the 30s it was the first race muffler, then the turbo came out,
+AlexCoronaPhoto
Flowmaster was founded in 1983. I think they have an annoying hollow-metal-can sound. And they don't flow that well. All those baffles and chambers create drag. Straight-through mufflers are the way to go.
+Collin Morris ...a classic dump truck.
Flowmasters sound is for letting the engine do the talking
+Dale Gribble couldn't have said it any better bravo bravo
Elroy Slater thank you
Heinzkitz Velvet that true & lmao on the joe dirt comment
thats kinda the opposite. the flowmaster produce false percussion with the internal flow dividers.
Sounds awesome with the 44's!! Gotta love having that 'ting' rattle sound with it. I'm still trying to decide whether 40's sound better than a 44.
+gwmax11 i have super 44's on my 1997 ram 1500 with a 5.2 318 V8. +Christopher Noe I hear ya!!
My fist look into classics was a 77 el camino with glasspack loved those mufflers ever since
I know I'm way too late for this, but the cherry bombs sounded so much better imo.
i got a super 40 muffler years back and liked the deeper note it gave. id been around flo pro exhaust many times working at a repair shop and liked their quality and prices are good.

I grew up on the good ole glass pack sound but I would have to go with the flow master especially with a lopy cam
my personal opinion i love the growl and crackle that the cherry bombs provide flowmaster is more of a rumble
That crackle can get tiring, but does sound great. Also when you stop them at the axle, they lose a lot of that fine tone you get when going to the bumper.
Its kinda like picking what flannel to wear on sunday..I love them both
Flow master gives it that lope and it just sounds nice and smooth for that classic
Both sound great👍👍 wish we had more sounds in the streets like this in the streets of the UK 🇬🇧🇺🇸
cherry bombs , flowmaster is nice but cherry bombs at high end range sound better the idle makes it sound more like a diesel but once u get movin its better :P
I have 1968 chevelle with 40 yr old cherry bombs. Love it
68 through 70 were great years for these
Awesome video, the Flowmaster is my favorite, they sound rich and throaty, I've got 3 inch 44's with an x-pipe on my Chevelle dumping before the axle, its over kill for a mild 350 ci but i love it ! Lol
I'm always a glass pack Guy myself headers then glass thrush preferably. To me the cherry bombs make that sound so much better.
not surprised to see the comment below me agreeing with me I was already expecting a that. Glasspack👍👍👍
That first pass with the cherry bombs sounds just like an old shovel head ripping
I love them flow masters I'm going too be getting some for my chevelle soon
I think 44's for my '81 bel air, but the cherry 's definitely sound good on that Chevelle! 👍
I can't stand that hollow-metal-can sound of Flowmaster. There's nothing better than a V8 with dual exhaust and glasspacks. Cherry Bombs for the win.
Glass-packs all the way. I always liked how they sound 💪🏻. Especially @ :40 mark. Nice Chevelle!!
I appreciate the video. Just came back for a listen after getting dual Thrush glasspacks. I'm guessing they're the exact same thing. Probably made in the same factory.
Joey Crow thrush is a different company now made by dynomax which has some great flowing and sounding mufflers too.
I like both but definitely prefer cherry bombs, Flowmasters have been done so much in the past 10-15 years, cherry bomb is a more classic sound
I like the sound at idle of the cherries, then that nice cam thump grumble of the 44s at the high end
Glass packs flow & sound so much better than any Flowmasters (aka: slowmasters) do on old muscle cars. Slowmasters stifle the power down like any other turdo muffler does as anyone who runs at the track see's on their time stamp when compared.

Love the cackle from the cherry bombs. Just sounds like the 70's.
Compared to the crap around us today, they're both music to my ears!
What’s with that? Sounds like cars a falling apart now…why modify the exhaust to sound horrible.
this is rad, I'm really glad I found this video. I was looking for some mufflers for my 71 pontiac and I found em (Flowmasters all the way)
cherry bombs for me. got some on my 2015 Chevy pickup. I just find the note of the cherry bombs to be more pleasing
44`s got it.
I was expecting to like the raspy cherry bombs better but I actually like that flowmaster sound better, both at idle and under acceleration
I have flowmarster system on my Chevelle have had it in there for years now but that 2000rpm drone is killing me, love the old school sound of the cherry bombs do that drone to or are they more quiet inside the car
Flow master sounds great. I was surprised usually glasspack has a better sound...FLOWMASTER for this particular situation
What style cherry bomb did you use? I'm thinking about going with the shorty cherry bombs
Damn a Flow master and the man that made um
The Flowmasters just sounds so tinny.
Both sounds badass I have 40 flowmasters on my 69 chevelle and glass packs cherry bombs on my 68 el Camino
Sounds like my mustang now . Both are fun muffs. But the gto keeps the cherry glass packs and my 5.0 can jingle with Flowmaster.
Man!.
Both sounds nice!
+baghead727 1970 is my favorite year of Chevelle. Personally I use Magnaflow SS mufflers but given the choice of glass packs versus Flowmasters, definitely the Flows for a more powerful 'sound'. Did this car come with a Power Glide?
cherry bombs dropped the bomb on the flowmasters
shoulda kept the glasspacks.
85 Trans Am TPI with a FlowMaster Super 44, but after seeing/hearing this video, I think I'm gonna give Summit Racing an order for a couple of Cherry Bombs!
I like the idle and low rpm range on the cherry bombs but the top end for flow master is just *chefs kiss* mint
great vid . luv the flows
The flowies are throaty sounding and the bombs sound almost like there's no muffler at all. I like the bombers.
Flowmaster sounded much smoother all the way thru
love the lil chassis twist in the first clip
Cherry Bomb hands down. That was just such a badass sound.
Cherry bombs win hands down. That sound when you let go of the throttle is menacing
0:40 🔥🔥🔥
I would definitely go with the cherry bombs because that does make the old car sound like a true classic also the glass packs!!
Info missing is was the cherry bombs a glass packed or chamber vs chamber test with the flowmasters?
Love the '69 bumper/tailights on the '70.
John Cougar Mellencamp's song went through my head ! Cherry Bomb by a long shot !
I had Cherry Bombs on my "68 SS El Camino. They sounded like nothing else!
no i love the cherrybombs too they sound aggressive whilst the flowmaster sounds kinda softer while cherry bombs sounds like a true muscle car
I went with with the flowmaster super 10 with my build I didn't want the glass packs blowing out of the mufflers eventually.
Cherry bomb glass packs have always had that back-rattle snapping sound. I've always liked it vs the low drone sound of other free flow muffs.
Both awesome
The Cherry Bombs sound more old school, the Flowmasters sound more modern.
Should i buy the classic cherry bomb glass pack or the cherry bomb m80?
Cherry bombs are awesome! I HAAAATE how flowmasters sound at idle!!
I like the sound of the cherry bombs are they pros or glasspack?
