I was always annoyed by Tess constantly taking Harry's side over Anna's, and not punishing him for snooping in her room. Also, removing her door was a bit extreme, and it's worse since Tess is a therapist, and is using her knowledge of psychology to hurt Anna even more.
Tess does stuff that is very questionable. My mom took my older sisters door off of her room when she was a teenager but my mom isn't/wasn't a therapist.

As someone who's studying to become a clinical psychologist, what's doubly worse in my opinion is Tess would absolutely know the consequences that could occur from removing Anna's door like that. Continuously invading your child's privacy (or more so taking away their right to it, in this case) as a means of punishment is a sure-fire way to create attachment issues, as they won't feel safe or secure and thus won't be able form the emotional connection that's so desperately needed between children and caregivers. If Tess had continued on that route, she most likely would've made it so that Anna would struggle to feel comfortable being vulnerable with others. This probably would've caused Anna to internalize her feelings and also build up mental walls in order to guard herself from anyone who tried to get close to her. In addition to all this, disrespecting your child's boundaries is how you drive them away and ensure that they won't open up to you or want anything to do with you when they're older. So not only would Tess's authoritarian parenting style have negatively affected Anna's psyche, but it also would've damaged their relationship even more, almost certainly beyond repair. I know it's just a silly movie, but if I ever met another person who had a degree in psychology (especially if they learned about developmental and/or social psychology, as most of us do in undergrad) and this is how they treated their children, I would highly question their ethics as a practitioner.

@@sw4mpyy parents liked to read my diary so I stopped keeping one and ripped the very few I’d started to shreds when they found them. They also liked to barge into my room (my mom still does it to this day). I can confirm that I struggle being vulnerable and making connections with people. And my mother gets upset because I don’t like to tell her anything because she thinks she’s somehow entitled to my every thought and movement. I wish parents would understand the damage they cause to their kids when it comes to privacy.

Jake is 18, a senior, and a detention AID. Its not unheard of for high school kids to work after school jobs
'Jake' was an 18 year old, 'anna' was 16. In the scene where Jake says 'I'm working', he mentioned it since he wasn't in detention. He was a secretary, I believe.
Actually Anna was 15.
I always figured he was some type of teachers aid. I did that in high school and ran a bunch of errands and handled assignments for my teacher lol

You're missing the entire point which probs doesn't help cus of how this was cut. It was literally done to show how he likes Anna for her personality not her looks that's why when they switch he doesn't like Anna but does like her mother. That's also why when the mom as Anna is playing the guitar he begins to like her again as that's Anna's real personality. Lindsay Lohan even has a line about that.
fun fact: the first scene Jaimie Lee Curtis filmed was the TV interview and even fought the director to let her be as over the top as she was!! Amazing

It's literally called Freaky Friday what did you think the title meant?? Also not really that shocking that they had a day of school (or work for the mother), went to a restaurant during lunch then book reading then rehearsal dinner/concert in the same day.
Lindsey plays the guitar in some scenes of the movie, but they were overdubbed in the finished film. She learned how to play to prepare for the film and the band actually practiced together too🤘🤘

Jamie Lee Curtis is great in this film as you really get the sense of an experienced actress who's loving the role she's playing.
Her role in Halloween is classic cinema, but watching her play a teenage girl who's navigating the awkwardness of adolescence is just as iconic for me.
Thank you for acknowledging how trash Tess was originally!!! It honestly seems like Anna had a rough patch where she was moody/hard to talk to after her dad passed bc literally who wouldn’t? And so her mom decided to stop being a parent and start being a warden. Awful. Also, the general consensus seems to be that Jake was 18 and was just like an office aid lol
when i was a kid i was like “oh, he’s attracted to Anna’s personality, not her mom really, that’s why he didn’t like tess in anna’s body bc of the personalities” but that doesn’t make it any better bc he didn’t know and it’s like he wasn’t attracted to anna physically, which if i were her i would find that insulting, but still went to the wedding for her bc he tried to break up the wedding and moved on to the next best thing in his opinion all bc he couldn’t get a middle-aged to call off her wedding and be with him…..and now i have a headache. likes he never gonna like her for real he just settled and that means she settled for a guy who will always find her mother more attractive than her and that’s weird as fuck.

It wasn't that he didn't find her physically attractive like he kept pursuing her up until she messed with Stacy's test it was that he didn't like and then he saw "Tessa" on TV and since it was Anna's personality that's why he liked her. He deffo found her attractive physically and he switches at the concert when he sees "Anna" playing the guitar (when it's really Tessa miming). Trin cut it out but after the concert he goes looking for Anna cus he sees she was back to who she was b4 personality wise

Looking back on this I’m kind of annoyed that Anna had went back to Jake after seeing he was much more attracted to her as her mom. Like I wish I would still be with someone who had shown more interest in my parent than me
But he was attracted to her personality and just hadn't seen Anna that much prior to it.
Freaky Friday is one of my all-time favorite movies as a kid. The plot may be weird to some people, but it's still silly and over the top, which we all love about it.
